So, the time to get new tabs for the Blazer. The tabs are just the same as road tax in Malaysia. You renew it every year. The Blazer’s tabs were due in July. I took the renewal form from DMV (department of motor vehicle) to work so I can send the form with a check in. The company I work for is sweet enough to provide such services for its employees. We employees can renew our license tabs, boat license, motorcycle and don’t know what else that I didn’t bother to care for since I do not utilize them. How it works is I enclose the form from DMV and the check into an envelope provided by the license bureau. The license bureau officer comes once every Wednesday to the company to do all these license stuff for employees. If you drop the envelope off on Wednesday you can pick the tabs up after 12 noon the next day.
When I picked my tabs up on Thursday, I saw they included new plates, too. The first thing I saw on the plates was the numbers 455, and being a Chinese, it’s an automatic thing to get them Cantonese translation which means “die fast fast” (sei fai fai). I told that to DB’s since those plates will be going up on his Blazer, he said jokingly, “Great. Does that mean I will die faster?” He knows now that the number 4 is a number that should be avoided if possible in the Chinese community. I told him about the number 4 when I saw our house number which ends with a 4, too. But I know he is not superstitious and so am I, but it’s just so weird how it pops right into my brain bucket when I saw those numbers. Guess it’s the Chinese in me.
hahhhha….this is too funny. you know..when i was in Toronto, i have seen car plates with the numbers 666 driven by Chinese. You can imagine the horror on the faces of the caucasians

Most chinese will still avoid the ’4′. Where as the no ’8′ is a very sought after one . Just look at this coming olympics. 08080808
Stands for the time it is going to start, date, month and year. And you would think they of all people would not be suspicious since they tried to abolish all those nonsense long ago.

when I saw that number, it reminded me of your house’s number. Did I tell you about a car I had in college? I saw this cute little red car with a for sale sign in the parking lot of my old apartment complex. The price was right and bought it immediately. When I went to the DMV to do the paperwork, it was only then I realized that the numbers on the plate were 124. When my parents came to visit me, they refused to get in my car!!! Hahhaahah!!!
I’m quite superstitious. Haha
Curious…why the car plate number also need to change when you update ‘road tax’?

For some reason in MN, passenger vehicles’ license plates is only valid for 7 years but for other vehicles (commercial, motorbikes, etc), they don’t get replaced. The registration tabs (road tax) that goes on the plates, they need to be renewed annually.
Hi Dawn
My dad’s old car (one he drove from the late 70s to early late 80s) number was 4141. I was told it stands for “die sure, die sure”. Is that correct? Anyway, my dad’s friends were superstitious about it and kept telling him he should sell the car and get rid of that number. He didn’t. He passed it on to my brother, who drove it for another 5 years.
Thankfully nothing happened to the family in all those years.
I suppose if one is not supertitious, then the bad luck does not play on one’s mind. That is just my opinion.

Hey Dawn, you didn’t buy some lottery numbers re the numbers? Ha ha.
Here we have 3 or 4 numbers similar to Empat Ekor….Also I have that old Chinese book of numbers….and will check on it.
But don’t buy that often unless see something unusual.
Long time back, I posted about this incident….was driving in KL’s Sungei Besi road and something came fluttering down from the apartment above….it then plopped on my car’s windscreen. Holy Smoke! It was a woman’s yellow panty! Ha ha.
I hit my brakes and got rid of it as it had got stuck to my wipers, much to the amusement of onlookers.
Then told a friend later, he gila Empat Ekor, and terus pulled me along after checking his book of numbers for ‘panty’….he bought the whole lot of numbers re the panty. I tumpang gave him ten bucks.
He again stopped another shop and sapu same numbers.
Next day I got the shock of my life he rang me practically screaming, “WE WON, WE WON….1st PRIZE LAAA”!!!
Oh boy, he made a small fortune….I made few thousands….
And all from a woman’s panty, ha ha.
My Lincoln’s number is 808. Nice huh? It’s not personalisied too, but knew the sales rep who sold me the car, told him I want good numbers….he got it for me.
And that number came out 5th week after I bought the car, and guessed what? I had stopped buying after 4th week! Cheeeeee! Ha ha. Lee.
