A little at a time

By | October 7, 2009

Woke up this morning feeling good.  Had a nice cool walk with the boys.  The boys behaved before I left for work…which i’m happy.  Got in the car and started driving to work.  That’s when my mood started to change.  The heater in the car is not working.  If it was working, then it would take hours to kick it, I think.  All I have is cold air from the heater.  It was 36 F (2 C) degrees out, it’s chilly, the wind shield fogged up a little from the inside.  Can’t crank up the heater coz then the cold air inside will just fogged up even more.  Driving down the freeway was still ok till 10 minutes later at the exit.  Had to slow the car and used my jacket sleeves and hands to wipe the damn fog off so I can see where I’m going.  Another 8 minutes to reach office parking lot seemed like 20 minutes.  I had to go so slow.  By the time I got to the parking lot, i could not see out the windshield, both windows.  It’s like someone is making out in the back of the car…you know!  That whole ordeal really got my blood going sort of ruined my morning till I talked to my coworker/friend then i felt better.  After work this afternoon, I’m sending the car in to have them check it out.  DB said it could just need anti freeze.  I’m hoping so and not the thermostat problem I had last year.

I heard on the radio talk show that a person move house at least 11 times in their lifetime. That is quite a bit isn’t it? I, myself have moved 5 fives including those in Ipoh. All the fun of packing, throwing, giving away and selling.

Before DB left for TX, I told him to clear out his old Samsonite luggage filled with clothes he had not worn for years and years…jeans, shirts and shorts. He said those clothes are in very condition. He thinks one day he might fit into them again. I told him it’s time to give them away because they have been sitting in that suitcase the time I moved to MN and that was 12 years ago. So go figure when he will ever get back into those clothes, particularly the jeans.  All I could do was shake my head and roll my eyes at him.  After a few shakes of my head, he caved in.  He got them under sized clothings into the giveway bag, finally.  And good thing I pester him to clear out that suitcase coz he had to take that suitcase with him as it is a fairly big size bag.  Hah, now I keep telling him the power of the “head shaking and rolled eyes”!  But it only works at times! :)

Now that he is gone, I’m wiping down the picture frames and packing them away in boxes and haul them to the basement.  For some reason, he told me don’t pack the picture frames away yet!  Why the hell not?  Have to start some where.  Doing a little at a time for me is better than rushing.   The worse is my office – fabric, books, magazines, sewing machine, PC, printers, lamps, Sterilite boxes of already filled with junk, and plants.  Plants in that room seemed to grow damn well.  Speaking of books, I need to sell 2 bookcases of  novels  and National Geographic magazines soon.  I can’t believe I actually brought some of my books from Ipoh to MN!!!!  Damn insane.  And the additional books I have bought through the years since I came.

The coming weeks I need to get down to the grocery and liquor stores to look for boxes.   The liquor stores  usually have boxes sitting out in their recycle container.  Grocery stores, I have to go in to ask them and that too depends on timing when they stock up the produce.  Urghhhh!!!

Oh and we are dropping the price of our house and that means there will be more showings.  Good and bad….good we can get a buyer sooner, hopefully.  Bad I need to clean and pick up the house more often, like every day!!!    Our realtor said there could be 3 – 4 showings in a day and I told her the showings will be done when i get home from work which is 3.  So I have to bring the dogs out of the house for a couple of hours, or just hang around in the garage till the showing(s) are done.

A little at a time that’s all I can say and do……I hope I won’t fall apart.

Omgosh!!Are u staying warm? Hope that your heater is fixed especially when winter is coming and is getting so cold there so quick.
Looks like you are getting busy..trying to keep the house clean and start packing..WHy your hubby don’t want you to start packing. You would want to start packing soon. When we moved we had to remodel some spots of the house and trying to pack..We didn’t even have ANY time to finish packing hubby’s parents finished the last minute stuff that we could not take it with us.
When I wanted boxes I would go WalMart at about 10-11pm (depending what time they restock).
Yeah try sell your stuff in craigslist as soon as possible at least you will have some of the things out of the house.

This packing & moving thing seems like an adventure. I’ve never moved before well except for awhile when I stayed near my college.

Why can’t you stay in the house while the realtor is showing the house to potential buyers?

It’s more like a giving those guys more privacy to look at the homes. I can stay put but I don’t like it either coz they will be looking at me and plus with the dogs….i rather be out of the house. I do go into the garage, though, sometimes if it’s crappy out.

tomato boxes are the best for packing/moving. You moving to Texas soon?

Leena, tomato boxes have lids on them? I’m looking for covered boxes, it’s easier to stack. no, not so soon. maybe next year.

The reason the Realtor don’t want the owners to be at the house when they have showings is because they don’t want the owners to have contact with the potential buyers. Several reason is because they don’t want the owners to be trying to “sell” their house and telling them what’s so great about the house. They also want the potential buyers to be able to make comments about the house. If I am not mistaken they don’t want the potential buyers and the owners to hook up without them then they will not get their commission.

I thought I was a pack rat too but I think everyone is like that too..Honestly I bought so many things down with me..Now I have to go through it and give it away because we don’t even use it..what a waste of space…space that I could use to take other stuff that we might actually need/want down..sigh..regret..

Melissa, thanks for the explanation! :) Yeah that and like I told my hubby, when we were house hunting the last time, I rather see the house without anyone in there coz I want to see every nook and cranny for all i care and no one to “spy” on us.

I sooo know the feeling of the pack rat in the house. My husband has over 30 shirts. Not t-shirts, the kind you hand in the closet. Recently he has to create a new closet, hard to describe, but it’s in our bedroom and sort of hanging from the ceiling holding up all those shirts. I try to tell him he doesn’t need any more but when he can find really nice silk and rayon shirts for like, two bucks, I can’t seem to argue anymore. ;)
