DB sent me this website on Friday, told me to check it out. He sent it to me at 2:15 p.m. when I was trying to get my reports done, I clicked on the link once and didn’t have the time to read through the verbiage. I was actually trying to bust my butt to get stuff done since I was wasting my time chatting online with Simmie and then with my neighbor for an hour. Payback time!
I asked DB what the hell was that, he replied “A new style car.” My reply was “As long as it’s free, I will take it.” You know what his response was: “Not this one, major coffin on wheels!!!!!!!!!”
I don’t think you could fit your boys in there. Maybe you could have them pull it for you to save gas money, like those sled dogs do.
Hey I am picking you for a nice award.
Isn’t it crazy with gas prices keep going up? I talked to hubby about this car again, he wonder how it performs in the winter. When I told him what J.T. mentioned, he gave it a long thought! So, never know.
Wow ! Going in style. So that you can get your new birth cert faster.
In style is right. I really don’t mind it when I took a closer look at it. Small and convenient but will not drive it when it’s snowing though.
A new style in the States for sure. Not sure if Americans are ready for it. I drove that for six years in Germany. It was not a particular favourite among Americans over there, either. People actually made fun of it wherever I went.
It was a good car for zipping around town and small enough to find parking anywhere. It would fit Malaysian road very well.
Most Americans always say that – coffin on wheels. Yet, there were hardly any accidents that I saw in Germany where a Smart car was involved. I swear Smart company is not paying me to say this but that is one of the best mileage cars I have driven in my life. About 46 miles to a gallon. We loved that car so much, that a few years later (in 2004), we bought the sports car version called the “Roadster”. When I drove that car for 5 hours across Germany, I used only 24 liters of gas (about 6 gallons). By the way, when I first drove this car in 2001 (like the model in picture), my weekly gas bill was $7.00 (drove to my job 5 times a week, 40 minutes total drive time everyday). If I continued that pattern of going to work, I would be paying about $15 a week at today’s prices.
Anyway, I heard that they are making the body slightly longer for the American market. The ones in Europe are smaller. We are considering getting one in the future because gas prices are never going down.
Hi J.T. THanks for the input. I kinda figured it’s pretty much the same as the Mini Cooper.
Like I told me sister, I really don’t mind getting one coz I like smaller cars especially in traffic. Since you said it saves so much gas, it is something hubby needs to look at. He is so typical of an American.
Only approx 6 gallons consumption to drive across Germany, that was awesome. When I drove to Rochester and to the border of Iowa (about 3 hours), my car guzzled up 2 3/4 tanks of gas. And of course when we drove to Rapid City, South Dakota, we had to fill her up a lot of times.
I heard that cars in Europe are a little smaller. I wonder why US cannot adopt that mentality?
You have a good one, JT.
Why US’s cars are so bloody big cars – just look at their citizens. Majority are obese. Too much fast food/ trans fat and lack of exercise. They have big cars to drive them to the door step of their destination.
This is what a visiting nurse told us during a conference. He said the obese patients here are nothing like those in the US.
It is true that most cars in Europe are small to medium sized. Of course, there are some who like bigger vehicles but SUVs are rarely owned – at least that is what I observed. I guess it is because of the gas prices.
Although I like the Smart for Two, I would prefer the Smart for Four if they ever make it for the American market. That way we can carry passengers too. I heard they stopped production on the Smart for Four and the Roadster in Europe.
If we did ever buy a Smart car here in the States, it won’t be for highway driving. The 18-wheelers will scare me off the road!
Yeah, I was about to say those semi drivers can be awful sometimes. Even driving my 2-door sedan, some semi drivers tried to bully me on the freeways. I can just imagine their reaction when they see someone driving the Smart for Two.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention… in winter I usually had winter tires on. So, there wasn’t much of a problem unless road conditions were dangerous. Then it was not only my car but other’s too that would go skidding. I wouldn’t drive it in deep snow though. We should not expect it to perform like those all-wheel-drives.
You had winter tires on yours? I never put winter tires on my car coz I drive a little slower when there’s snow or ice on the roads. I actually drove my car when there were 14 inches of snow and I was stuck getting out of the parking lot at work. No wonder my hubby wants to get out of Minnesota!
