Drug Rehabilitation

22 September 2007 by Two Crazy Dogs

Being addicted to drugs whether it is legal or illegal is a disease.  When I was attending the Alanon meetings 3 years ago, I found out about many people can be addicted to narcotics.  I was so naive on this subject matter.  Breaking a drug addiction is difficult, but not impossible.  Families of drug addicts need to give these individuals support and should consider checking them into drug rehabilitation centers.  The objective of the Rehab centers is to put the patients in a detoxification therapy as quickly and safely as possible. In addition, they also help the patients to figure out the problem as to why they are addicted to narcotics.

Drug rehab only plays a part. Once they are release, family amd friends plays a part too. Their old friends might influence them again.
It is a long, long hard road to recovery. Takes lots of will power and support.

In my experience the most important thing is the addict needs to admit they have a problem and is willing to change. No matter how much support family and friends give, the addict will not succeed if he/she does not admit they have a problem. From my Alanon meetings, addicts usually hit rock bottom really hard, then that’s when they are willing to get help. Learn from the hard way.

Some one once told me that it is like they have fallen in to a deep well. Very hard to climb out.
You are right though they must admit their problem.

Yep, that’s what DB told me, hits rock bottom and then the light starts flickering.
