The weekend

7 January 2008 by Two Crazy Dogs

My weekend started off with warm weather.  The temps shot up to the upper 30s yesterday, actually 41F degrees.  Saturday’s temp was fairly warm in the morning.  I went for a walk with the boys.  It was theirs and my first morning walk since i returned from my vacation.  (Yep, I got lazy since I got home.)  DB went for his trading classes which runs from Saturday through Friday.  I was home alone with the boys.

I did my usual weekend things - groceries and running errands.  When I got home, I made a cake, a recipe from my sis’ blog - sour cream lemon cake.  Her’s looks just so perfect, however, mine looked super duper pathetic which does not worth the camera.  I kept the cake though.  It’s a waste to throw it away.  It tastes good, but the texture is not soft and I left it in the oven for too long, or I had the temp in the oven too high.  But whatever it is, the cake is half gone.  DB pretty much inhaled it.

Sunday came and I regretted sleeping in till 8:40 a.m.   Once I got up, I put a load of laundry, had my breakfast/lunch and when I was done eating and cleaning up, it was already 10.  Checked some emails, Facebook and time went by really quickly.  I wanted to brush the boys and bathe them, but ran out of time.  I was only able to brush them which they really like it.  All the old summer coat on them kept flying out from them.  They would sit there and enjoy the brushing.  Of course once I was done with them, it was play time.

And from play time with them to vacuuming the whole house, to an hour walk with the boys, then cooked dinners for the week and dinner for the night.  It’s just never ending.  When I was done, DB came home at 5:50 p.m. and it was time to eat.

Seems like I work harder during the weekend than during the weekdays.  When I was done watching Amazing Race, I was tired, but I made a mistake of surfing the web and deciding and reading on working part-time via online resources for extra money.  That totally stirred me up and when I got to bed, I could not sleep, probably took me a good 45 minutes to wind down.

Oh and then, Cooper is really having trouble getting up and laying down.  Poor boy, he’s only 7 years old (49 in human age), he’s already suffering from arthritis.  I might have to send him to the vet for an arthritis prescription for him.  His limping and pain could be from the weekend play with Ranger and rough-housing with me.  I will have to see how this week goes.

Back to the grind stone today with slippery road conditions - much of the snow melted during the weekend, roads were wet and the temperature dropped last night and water turned to ice.  I really have to work on the reports this week and the rest of the month.  The new year has begun, and affirmative action plans need to be written for all locations.  Can’t complain much coz it’s paying the bills for me and putting food in my mouth!!

Hi Pearly sweetie, yeah, both hubby and i really missed m’sian food. Day in day out we talked about it and only want to eat Malaysian food. I think the only western food we had was Christmas and New year’s meal.

Coopster is still limping. I told hubby I will take him to the vet later when there enought $$ floating around! BTW, it’s not summer yet. winter is still lingering around. Just that weekend the weather was weird - half the snow is gone now. But mother nature is gonna kick some butt soon! :D

Hey Nicole, I’m just doing fine but getting lazier!!! Cooper right now is snoozing like a pig! Can’t afford to take him to the vet for his x-rays. They cost a bomb.

Hey how come the cake turn out like that. So more put up my big name. Malu leh, this ‘toh tai’ is so pathetic one.

    ::))haha….

Aiyah I think you must cream the butter and sugar well and beat the eggs one at at a time well.
Use medium size eggs and comercial sour cream. Not cream that had turned sour in your fridge ! :)
The oven or temp might be the reason. Different cake tins have different timing in the oven
Lastly the cake is soft and moist. but not super soft like the sponge cakes. Texture is a bit dense. Sorry don’t know how to ezplain it properly.

Try it again and if it still turn out terrible please don’t broadcast my name !

Anyway it must not that be taht bad if DB ate all of it.

Toast it in the oven to turn it to something different like I did. - suggestion only

Haih, you should know “what kind of water I am”! Still have so much to learn. You know, I’m using those non-stick loaf tin. it ciould be due to the material of the tin like what you and DB said. BTW, I bought real sour cream, too, coz we don’t eat sour cream anymore, so where is there any “real” sour cream in the fridge, right?? DId you sieve the flour, too?

DB said it taste damn good. You know him, anything tastes good to him. It is actually tastes not too bad, just dry.

Sift the flour is always a must.

Please, plese don’t tell me you did not. It is so basic !!!!!

Where did all your home science lessons gone to ????

Why don’t you invest in a round tin ? If not you have to try till you get the time right.

Aiyah, the flour I bought was already pre-seived lah! Still want to sieve again? Home science lessons all back to Mrs. Ng and Chin!!

If I don’t get a regular round tin, DB will eating the same old thing over and over!!!

    Dawn dear :
just kay poi reading you and nonya cake baking , if the flour already pre seived you don’t have to seived when you add the egg one at the tiem also add a table sppon of the flour too it make the cake mixture better , as nonya say the sugar and the butter must cream it until very pale and fluff then your cake will turn out well soft and moist temp put to 160′cm gas mark 4 will be the best and set the cake middle of the oven .
the more you bake your cake will be prefect don’t worry .

Hi Pearly, no probs at all being a kay poh :) I must now have cream the butter and sugar long enough to make it look pale! Guess I was too impatient! THink I’m going to try this cake again this weekend, which means it’s tomorrow! you have a good weekend, Pearly.
