Guess I’m still alive

I updated this post to include some pictures…..

Yeah, it’s been a long time since I posted anything on my blog. Sometimes I wonder if I’m still alive!!!

‘K just to keep updated on stuff… DB is back to work 8 hours a day started this Monday. A week plus after his surgery, he thought he needed to get back to work because he did not apply for STD (short term disability). I was kinda surprised his boss did not talk to him about STD. I told him to check with his HR to see what his company’s STD policy is. I assumed he did checked with them coz he told me he will not be covered 100% which was a bummer. So, he has to get back to work.

This was what DB’s ankle looked like a month ago.

He drove to work on Monday without the cast while driving. When he got to work, he put the cast on, brought the crutches out and hobbled his way in to the building. As soon as he got to the elevator, he said he was pitting out. Met some folks in the elevator and they told him to get his butt home right now. He did go home, and he was glad he did. His ankle swelled up big time and he began his shifts on the couch, in front of the big screen with the laptop next to him. He called up his nephew who works up in the cities as a paramedic for some butterfly bandages. The nephew came and hung out with DB for couple of hours, and then step-daughter (SD) and boyfriend came over to help kill some time with him

He went for his follow-up appointment on 4/18; stitches removed and the nurse applied butterfly bandage on the cut. His doc said he could get rid of the cast and start walking without it during the weekend. He also told DB he was allowed to work 4 hours a day the following week, the 23rd.

The next day, both of us went for a seminar out in St Louis Park, 20 minutes drive without traffic, an hour with traffic. The seminar was a 3-day seminar which was really hard on his foot since he could not elevate it. Oh well, we completed the seminar and we were proud of ourselves. The seminar was a financial seminar where it was very useful for us.

Well, DB thought having the stitches removed and can freely walk without the pain the butt crutches and cast was great, his wound had an infection. Boy, did that stink. I cleaned that stinky wound with hydrogen peroxide and let it dry out for a few days. We came to find out from SD that we should not use peroxide to clean the wound. Peroxide “eats” the flesh or something – that’s what she told her dad. Just use soap and water, and that he did and the infection disappear within two days.

DB went to work on the 23rd for half days and he loved those short days. The boys got so used to having him in the house…sometimes I wonder who has a better life – boys or us???

Anyways, I’m still in school. Final portfolio due May 8, however, the instructor gave us an option to hand it in on May 15 if we want, since May 15 is actually the date for the school’s finals.

For my portfolio, I’m working on revising my two papers. The first paper is on television sitcoms based on family values. I am analyzing the TV sitcom “Leave it to Beaver” and “Reba”. The second paper is on Generation. I wrote about parenting in different cultures from my observation and experiences from my upbringing. Both are pain in the ass, but that’s the way she goes. I wanted to write about school shootings since I have someone I can gather information from, but I find this topic too depressing. And here I am, procrastinating away, wasting my time catching up with NCIS, CSIs, Survivor, Amazing Race, Criminal Minds, Close to Home, and Without a Trace. TV addict, you think????? I’m getting there!!! I’m waiting till the last minute to complete the revisions. I know I’m asking for it.

On top of my school work, DB and I are reading the materials from our seminar and trying to practice what was preached to us.

Plus, since spring has sprung, the yard needs a great deal of TLC. DB mowed it last Sunday before the storm rolled in. I bought some annuals and planted wildflowers in the whiskey barrel. I’m still waiting for the lavender plants I ordered. Can’t wait to get them planted. Also, we are thinking of reseeding the yarn since the wonderful squirrels have been tearing up the yard, both front and back for us. Wonderful nice creatures, aren’t they???? The cardinals and robins are everywhere in the backyard. I bought a bag of bird seeds and DB cleaned up the bird feeder and put in fresh bird seeds for them birds. The birds made a mess on the ground, but the boys help clean them up.

Crab apple tree

OK, that’s it for now. I’m at work right now and will post some pictures which I have taken couple of days ago, tonight or this weekend.

No wonder. I don’t watch much TV. There are too much things occupying my time. Reading, X-stitch, kay po here and there at other blogs.

H is the one with the TV every evening.
