Cooper and allergies

Here we go again, allergies….all the itching, licking and chewing resulting to this.

That’s Cooper’s hind leg, one of them. The other hind paw is not that bad. We gave him antihistamines, drugs to make him drowsy and antibiotics, no go. He keeps licking and chewing. Put the E-collar on, no go either. He found a way to go about that collar. We, actually me since DB will be working this weekend, have to call the vet this weekend to find a fix with this problem. Looks like he will have to go with Ranger’s meds which is steroid.  Ranger is doing well with his meds.  No itch from him at all.  I wanted to give Ranger’s steroid meds to Cooper but I can’t coz steroid and the arthritis pain killer (Carprofen) he is taking now will clash.  That’s why I need to consult the vet.

< Spring, the start of allergy season >

I can’t believe it when all these started for me 2 years ago; sneezing and more sneezing. I never had this problem before when I came here 13 years ago. My body, immune system must have gotten used to the environment here. It really sucks but then I kept telling myself, again, it’s not as bad as others (teary eyes, sneezing, runny nose). Mine, I had it easy. The sneezing will start in the morning as soon as I get out the house or when I apply my perfume. I will sneeze for a good 2 minutes straight till I feel weak and sweaty. It will again at any time, any where, the whole day. A lady at work has these sneezings plus teary eyes which she says is driving her nuts. She uses her hands to wipe her tears at times which lead to major acne infection on her face – the cheeks area. And the good thing is she is able to find Proactive, click here, if interested to find out what it is, to help curb the acne. I don’t use any perfume now, at least for now. Initially I thought the perfume triggered the sneezing but it didn’t matter. It’s the pollen out there, and with the perfume, it kicked up a few notches on the sneeze button. It’s not just me is going through spring allergies….Ranger is having it bad. The other two canines are handling it better than Ranger though. A trip to the vet is on my to-do-list.

Here is a picture of Cooper’s infected paws and the lump that got DBs and I worried.

Photobucket

I found out about the lump when I gave him a bath 2 weeks ago.  My first thought was the lump was those fatty lumps that are emerging from Ranger’s body.   They are harmless.  But a couple of days later, I touched it, it was very soft and Cooper did not like me touching it.  My imagination went wild then, thinking that it’s a tumor and it’s cancerous.  I asked DBs to look at it, he too thinks it’s not those fatty lumps.  Those fatty lumps on Ranger are a lot more solid.  So, of course I panic a little but not showing it too much.  Tod DBs to make an appointment with the vet to check it out and also find out why his paws are not healing after so many months.

To the vet Cooper went.  The vet drew blood from the lumpt and did other kind of tests on Cooper.   The tests all came back negative, all is good.  Phew, that was a relief.  The vet then checked his paws and told DBs they were actually infected.  The wounds started off from allergies and Coops licking them, and because of boredom, he licks them even more.  Yeah, I know, some days I do not give them a lot of attention, the boys are on their own laying on the carpet by me (majority of the time) when I’m home or by DBs when I’m at work.  So, Coops had a few shots of super duper strength antibiotics and gave us some oitment and oral antibiotics for us to take home.

I am hoping the medication is going to help heal the infected paws soon.  Both DBs and I have caught him licking the bad paws.  We put the collar that looks like a float on him, but the collar seems to “choke” him when he sleeps.  So we take it off most of the time.  “Sum toong” to see him breathing so hard when he’s trying to sleep.  Plus with that collar on, he can’t get to his water and food bowls.  The vet says it will take about a week plus for the antibiotics to do the job.  We shall see.

Allergies kicking in good

It has been a month since I starting my sneezes.  I noticed the worse is when I have perfume on.  There are only two fragrances I use, i.e. Escape and Eternity both from Calvin Klien.  I started using these two fragrances back when I was in M’sia, if I’m not mistaken 1994 with no problems at all.  Just love the smell of it.

I even bought them brand new last year since I ran out.  Thought these two bottles will last me till end of this year but at the rate I’m going now, it will last me a few years!!  I totally cut off putting on any perfume starting today.  I noticed each time I get a whif of the perfume I will be sneezing my guts out.  Not just mine, it’s also from others – whoever walked past me or come close to me with their perfume, I will start to sneeze.

Then, my eyes are itching on and off.   Not that bad.  They are not watering yet.  However, my nose is the one that is driving me up the wall.  It is itching and I have been blowing it almost every 30 minutes, if not I will be rubbing it till it becomes so red and getting sore at the same time.

I’m experimenting if I have all these symptoms when I’m in Vegas.  My coworkers told me folks who have allergies in Minnesota usually have none when they are in drier climate like Vegas or Arizona.  That was what DB said, too.  He said “Time to move out of here.”  Yeah, I don’t know how many times he has said that.

As of now, my nose is itching.  I do not smell any perfume fragrance, but my own deodorant, too.  Die, man.  Have to get those unscented ones, I think.   And the funny thing is when I’m out walking the boys, I still sneeze but not as much as when I’m indoors.  Obviously I’m allergic to perfumes and it’s a little better when I’m outside, the fragrance is not so strong then.

If I’m really allergic to perfumes I will have to sell them.   Simmie said sell them on eBay.  Mhmm, that’s a good idea.  Now I hope I’m not allergic to dog dander!!!  If I am, PLEASE KILL ME NOW!!
