Snow storm pics

Comments Off

We had snow storm watch blasted on the TV since Tuesday, Dec 7 or it could be on Monday.  The snow storm started on Friday afternoon and it got worse and worse all the way through Saturday night.

Here’s a pic taken on Saturday afternoon. I was so bored, can’t go out for too long coz of the gale force winds plus snow. Frigging hurts the face with that kind of winds. So i was staring out of the window upstairs while working on my sister’s Cafe World, and I saw the 3 cars went right to the ditch on the freeway.
DSC03205

There were hardly any traffic on the freeway and actually the entire freeway which goes all the way to Texas was close due to a blizzard – blowing snow that makes visiblity to zip. Here’s a short little video I took of the wind blowing the snow around.

The next morning, Sunday, that’s what I see out the same window I took the previous pic. The wind created a snow drift, couldn’t see the driveway. Nice blue skies though. I didn’t go to church that morning.
Dec 12 2010

It was cold out (-2F), so I really dressed up but over dressed. I was drenched in sweat after the walks with the dogs. A pic of how high the snow banks are at our house after the plows came by.

The street was not plowed well and none of the side walks were cleared. So the boys and I had to walk on the street and thank goodness there were hardly any traffic that day.

Cooper
Dec 12 2010

The sidewalks are covered but too deep for me and the boys to trudge through.
Dec 12 2010 - corner unit - where's the sidewalk?

The dog digging his own grave! :) Hahahah just kidding. Ranger smelled some thing and had to see what it was on the way back from our walk.

And here he is not happy to go home.

Picture of the two nutheads Cooper and Chase outside the garage around 6:30 p.m. (Sunday), trying to see who gets the frisbee first.

The two C’s playing tugged of war with the hole-in-the-frisbee. Actually Chase had it but Cooper wanted it too. Here ‘s vid and also a pic of them taken with my cellphone on Monday, Dec 13.

1213001631b.jpg

The 2F degrees (-17C) does not bother them at all. Nice to have that thick heavy coat they have on, playing happily, panting away and whines and whines when i shooed them in to the garage/house. Good thing is they cool off so much faster after so much playing during winter. Spring, summer, and fall it will take them hours to finally quit panting.

First day of winter, or winter solstice is not even officially here yet and we are already getting hammered. Hundreds of flights were cancelled in Minneapolis and Chicago. Tons of accidents and so many residents in other areas lost power and so many have to dig their cars out from the snow storm. Schools in the cities were closed on Monday and some on Tuesday too. Well, I had to go to work on Monday and the roads are not too bad. The Dept of Transportation plows definitely were working hard to make the freeways clear and free of snow and ice except for some spots – shiny spots = ice.

Another round of snow is here starting this evening will drop 2-3 inches. Hooray! Good thing I’m taking time off starting tomorrow and through the weekend.

Christmas decor that got Ranger mad

Comments Off

The picture I took couple of days ago on my walk with Ranger and Cooper.  These are blowup Christmas snowmen for outdoors.
DSC03193

A day before I took this picture, I was out with the same two boys. We were walking towards this row of townhomes and I saw only the Reindeer with the Santa (second from left) bobbing left, right, back and forth.  The other blow up snowmen were not there yet.  Ranger saw the lone Reindeer and Santa from a distance and he was on alert.  He sure didn’t like seeing it.  His ears perked up which I think because that blowup thing was bobbing around and the noise it makes.  This thing is hook on to an electric outlet to allow it to bob around.  The noise is like a humming sound.

Ranger was so cautious as we were walking towards that direction.  I purposely continued on instead of turning around, just so to see his reaction.  Well, I sure did.  The closer we get to that “intrusive” object, Ranger’s fur on his neck all the way to his tail were standing straight up.  He was growling, standing alert and wanted to jump at it.  I kept telling him “it’s ok, nothing to worry about.”  It’s as if I’m talking to a human! :)

He sure didn’t buy what I said, of course.  His fur was still up but the growling stopped, took baby steps, stopped and looked at the bobbing Santa.  I kept on nudging on his leash to move forward.  As we walked past it a little, he kept looking back but his fur were still up.  If only I had my camera with me then, I would have taken a picture of Ranger.

Ranger’s fur finally settled after we walked a blocked away. It was funny to see how Cooper didn’t even bet an eye on the Santa and even the sound didn’t bother him one bit.

The day I took these pictures (above and below), all these blow up snowmen bobbing around didn’t even bother him. He kept walking, snooping around the trees and kept on going.  Go figure!!!

Energizer canine

Comments Off

I guess you know which dog this is.  Picture taken before fall as you can see all the green leaves and grass.
DSC03110

Chase is getting to be mighty hyper these days.  We think is the cooler weather =  tires less.

Every morning I take him and Cooper for a walk, Chase without the leash so he could run to his heart content.  He will sometimes chase after some squirrels or at times if he sees a deer he will go for it.  Usually he will start running but I have to yell at him to STOP.  Thank goodness he does STOP, like stop on his tracks! :)

In the afternoons now since daylight savings ended, it gets dark at 4:45 p.m. I will walk Cooper and Ranger after I get home from work….a good 30-minute walk.  Once I get home, the Energizer Canine will start whining, letting out friendly growls at me to throw the darn frisbee.

In the summer and early fall, I don’t usually throw the frisbee into the “jungle” of leaves, shrubs and trees but now since all are bare (will take a picture soon), I start throwing into the “jungle” and let the Energizer hunt it down.  Jumping up and down the wall he will go without complains for at least 15 mintues.  I usually end the play around 4:15-ish so to let him chill out before their dinner at 5-ish.  So far this routine is working good especially he’s dead tired after his meal.  He will practically plops down and sleeps.  What a life these dogs have!

The frisbee destroyer destroyed it!

Comments Off

Yep, Chase did it. He tore the one piece out of the frisbee last week or it could be 2 weeks ago. He gets so excited when it’s time to fetch. He will whine and whine till he gets out of the house and has the frisbee in his mouth.

0829001844.jpg

Honestly, I have no idea where that tore up piece went to.  He might have eaten it and it’s no where to be seen on the yard or bushes, shrubs.  But then I did not see it in his poop either.  So I’m guess it’s still stitting in his gut?  Man, I hope not.  I hope it flew somewhere.  I cannot forsee us paying for another exploratory stomach surgery for him.  And yes, I’m still using this frisbee till it can’t fly anymore, and or into pieces.  Then I will get a new one.  This bugger is not a “nice” dog when it comes to toys.

Cooper and allergies

Comments Off

Here we go again, allergies….all the itching, licking and chewing resulting to this.

0908001521.jpg

That’s Cooper’s hind leg, one of them. The other hind paw is not that bad. We gave him antihistamines, drugs to make him drowsy and antibiotics, no go. He keeps licking and chewing. Put the E-collar on, no go either. He found a way to go about that collar. We, actually me since DB will be working this weekend, have to call the vet this weekend to find a fix with this problem. Looks like he will have to go with Ranger’s meds which is steroid.  Ranger is doing well with his meds.  No itch from him at all.  I wanted to give Ranger’s steroid meds to Cooper but I can’t coz steroid and the arthritis pain killer (Carprofen) he is taking now will clash.  That’s why I need to consult the vet.

The howling dogs

Comments Off

I took this video on the day of our move at our old house. I had to put all three of them in my office coz they were in the way when the guys were moving stuff. It tickles me to see them howl each time the siren goes off. Every 1st Wednesday of the month, the sirens will go off – testing for severe weather.  Whether it is the severe weather siren or the police/fire truck, they will howl just like in the video.

It’s not so bad if the dogs are outside but when they are confined inside a small room, the howling is just so so loud….almost deafening.

Stress to the max

Comments Off

Today is Tuesday and we are still in this house, semi packed, still waiting for one application approval from the rental property owner, waiting for the church members to get back to me if they can find a foster or temporary home for the young-un (Chase) and I still have time for blogging!!

Most of my stuff are packed except for bathroom and clothes. DB, no idea what he had packed, his office crap were packed, i know that. We arranged for helpers – my friend’s hubby, DB’s 2 nephews and whoever the nephews can bring with them to help. We also arranged for a moving truck and booked a storage unit for just in case one of the rental properties denied our application…the rental unit we want is much x10 smaller than the other one we saw which we can store a lot more of the bigger items.

We will be bringing the two older boys with us to whichever rental unit we end up with. Chase will be going somewhere which I do not know where. Initially we looked at a house and the owner and his wife were ok and approved our application, and the owner said ok with the 3 dogs. The next day when we were getting ready to leave for the owner’s to drop the rent and deposit check, the owner called to say his wife decided to declined our application because she does not want dogs in the house!!!! Knnb, that almost blew my faith away, and I’m just hanging in there now. I was scrambling to find a place for us 5 and finally made up our decision to only keep the 2 older boys. We were torn….which one(s) to keep…the 2 older ones are more expensive since they are older and the young one is way cheaper.  But we had the two older ones for 10 years and really hard to see them go to another home.  So we decided to give Chase away since he is still young and someone can make a good hunting dog out of him.  He has excellent hunting instincts.  After making our decision, we hunt up the internet for house, townhomes, condos/apts.  Saw a few townhomes (terrace homes) on Sunday and Monday. The last one we saw was yesterday afternoon and she wont get back to us till this afternoon.

The other townhome application was approved but like I said is very small and we have to put most of our stuff in storage (extra cost) and we don’t get to move to the one we want yet till next month. So we thought we will wait for the one we saw yesterday, slightly bigger and has a lot of storage space and of coz the rent is higher.

The entire weekend and up till this moment I’m typing this, I’m still worried, but the man said not to worry, everything will work out and we will be moved out by tomorrow before the sheriff comes knocking on our door and evict us.

One of DB’s nephews will be here later this afternoon. I got some sandwich meat for us coz I know I won’t have time to cook. I even bought plastic cups and use up some custom plastic cups I got from work last week, and paper plates. They are free, what the heck!

The only time I’m not stress is when I’m sitting right in front of the pc with FB games!!! :) Well, also when I walk the boys and especially walking Cooper and Chase…..the walk is way faster than when I walk Ranger.

Here’s a picture of Chasey, probably the last picture I will take of him. Picture taken few days ago after a lot of running and fetching, hence the hanging tongue….this dog lives to fetch.
downsized_0427001639.jpg
One of the church member said he might have his parents take Chasey to northern Iowa where his parents own a hobby farm….big acreage for him to roam around, however, he has to be an outside dog which kinda saddens me, coz Chase is not an outside dog and never has been. I’m not sure, everything with him is still up in the air. I yet to hear from the other lady who arranges foster homes for dogs/cats. Keeping my fingers cross he will have a home to go to by tomorrow night coz tomorrow will be his last day with us. I’m crying now.

And by the way, the three dogs knows something is up. They are extremely clingy. I guess they think we are sending them away for good or we are going somewhere and leaving them.

Will update later.

DB thinks Ranger is and angel….because of his calm disposition, no whine, no demands compare to the other two C’s. No doubt he is calm but when it comes to food, he is not, he will hound you till he gets it! And another thing is it sure seem like he knows we are doing something to him. Last week I saw blood in his pee while we out in the trails….so I had to call DB to make an appointment with the vet that evening and brought him in soon after. Sure enough he had bladder infection….that was my initial guess besides kidney infection since that fella only drinks twice a day and pees only once in the morning and a few times in the evening…..nothing in the afternoon. He was prescribed antibiotics and DB brought home a urine sample kit to collect Ranger’s urine!

IMG_4088
One glove, a plastic vile, liquid squeezer (not sure what to call that thing), tray and instructions. I thought collecting urine is as easy as using the oximeter, and so I thought! :(

After 8 days of treatment with the prescribed antibiotics, we need to collect Ranger’s urine to send it back to the vet for analysis. Take a look at the instructions:

IMG_4087

Read it? I laughed so hard the moment I saw the EQUIPMENT….a soup ladle! OMG, I was floored. DB tried in the morning with a ladle in his gloved hand walking out with Ranger, but DB said Ranger knew something was not right…coz DB never come out of the house when sending them out for potty. Ranger walked to the middle of the yard, heavy snow and took his time….DB didn’t go….he said it was a pain…my thinking, DB is just lazy to walk out there! :(

So my turn to try get the urine sample. I took him to the trials with my own collection kit:
IMG_4090

That plastic bottle is a used medication bottle….cleaned and dried it and off we went. I didn’t bring a ladle with me! Goodness what people out in the trails would think when they see me holding the ladle with the dog peeing!!! I can just imagine it. So I put the glove on and the moment we got the truck, Ranger peed but that fella had to pee at an angle where I couldn’t catch the pee in the bottle. …Now I know why the ladle!!!!!! And the glove absolutely helped!!!! So after 3 tries, I gave up. He was too quick and impromptu, plus my hands were already freezing.

We took him back to the vet and they collected his urine….they must had insert something to his urethra coz it was so quick he came out from the room. Still waiting for the results. But the urine collection was just too hillarious….but i hope he is free from infection…

You think he is on the tubby side

Comments Off

This is Chase, the crazy fetching nut. Any stick on sight, he will pick it up and run it to me to throw for him.  But what I want to say is….

IMG_3722

IMG_3765

….I still think he is on the heavy side…in other words, fat. But the master said he is just nice for the winter. He needs the extra fat to keep warm, he said. I think the temperature is not that cold now.  20′s Fahrenheit is decent.   I understand if the temp is in the teens and single digits but when it reaches 20′s I find it kinda warm too when I go for my walks with a jacket on.

The last we weigh him he was 92 pounds and that was probably 6 – 7 months ago. I once cut his food down to 2.5 cups a day his ribs were sticking out and he was constantly begging for food and the master said he was too thin. I forgot to ask the vet what his ideal weight should be which i assume he will tell “as long as you can feel his ribs”. Well, I can sorta feel his ribs but can’t see them now.  Honestly I have to walk them twice a day but it’s tiring to walk 4 times a day – I still walk Chase and Cooper separate from Ranger.

Boys and their beds!

Comments Off

Since it got so cold in the house, I noticed the dogs were laying only on the rugs and not the carpets. So I brought out the two old dog beds and right away Chase and Cooper booked them as theirs. Poor Ranger being the old mellow fella, continued to lay and sleep on the rugs which i stack them up to make it thicker. Then I got a brilliant idea, I thought so. I brought out two of our spare pillows in the closet, one a feather and the other a don’t know what poly-thing-filled using one of the boys’ old fleece throw to cover the pillows. Ranger sorta laid on it but he itched like mad. Duh, then the light bulb went on!!! He is allergic to feathers except cotton and don’t know what other fiber.

Last Saturday, I bought a new dog bed for Ranger at Sams Club. Cheap for the price of an xtra large bed. Brought it home they didn’t even bother to lay on it. Just gave a sniff and walked away, but when evening came when dinner and snacks were all done, I saw one of the boys were not with me. Went looking around and saw this fella there:  Cooper

0103001904.jpg

Two days later, Chase was smart….he went in there right away after his snack. Sleeping like a baby after an hour of fetching.

Chase booked the new bed 0105001934.jpg

0103001906.jpg

This was where Chase suppose to sleep, on the blue bed. Red bed is Cooper’s. So now since Chase sleeps on the big ass bed, Cooper sleeps on the red one, leaves the blue one left but Ranger is so nice. When he sees Cooper sleeping on the red bed, he will not walk past Cooper’s bed to the empty bed. So considerate of him!!! Hahahaha!

Anyways, I do bring the blue bed out closer to the door and he will sleep there.

New Year, new beginnings

Comments Off

Happy belated New Year!

2010, start of another decade. It does sound kinda weird have to say “twenty-ten” or ” two thousand ten” or to write 2010 on checks and while saving my reports that I had generated this morning with “2010″ at the end of each file name.

New year with new medical insurance carrier too. I didn’t get instant life insurance quote from my insurance company since I opted out of it this year.  It’s lighter on the paycheck, definitely.

If only I can get insurance for this dog. Unfortunately, I can’t even when we first adopted him 10 years ago.

1224090930.jpg

The collar around him was to prevent him from licking his very bad paw (the one that is bend) which he injured when we went for a walk.  He must have stepped on broken ice and also probably salt on the roads and our driveway.  The paw was so bad he actually yelped when I washed it and applied antibiotic cream on it.  Ranger never ever yelps or whines unless he is in real pain.  Poor boy.

He is doing better now but it’s just his hind leg is still giving him the limp after each walk.  Right now the vet said no walk for him till this Thursday, but yesterday I caved in after seeing his sad eyes staring back at me.  Was a very short walk and yet he limps and hopped around on three legs after the walk.

The two C’s, Cooper and Chase, waiting for me to putz around taking pictures of the tee I picked up from the book signing for their walks

IMG_3616

They look kinda pathetic, don’t they? BORED!

IMG_3617
Ranger, too limpy to follow me around, so he hung near the room instead of all the way in.  See the scar on his back leg?  The fur is slowly growing back.

It’s funny how they sense that they will be going for a walk….once I change into my sweatpants, they know. Any other days when I change to my jeans or house jammies, they don’t really bother. How do they differentiate other clothings and sweatpants? I gather it’s the time of the day too…usually around 2:30ish – 3, their bodyclock is so “chun” (punctual) for about every thing – meal times, treats, walks and bedtime. Talking about clock work!

I took this video back in early October. Yes, snow on the ground though it didn’t stay long. The two C’s out enjoying themselves, playing. Ranger don’t give a hoot with them. Ranger rather go for his walks but the funny thing is he will play if I initiate him to play. But once the other two join in “our” (Ranger & I) game, Ranger will stop right away. This boy don’t care less about the two C’s as you can see how he moves away in the video.

Those darn frogs/toads

Comments Off

I have not exactly seen the boys eating one of these. Apparently, depending on the dog’s stomach, it’s harmless consuming these ugly amphibians.

downsized_1009091549a.jpg

I saw this dark brown ugly looking thing while out picking doggy doodoo on our yard.  I have seen more than one before and also the green little ones.  I know dogs eat them and all they will get from eating these frogs/toads is foaming in the mouth.  Unless it is doing some thing really bad to the dogs’ stomachs like vomitting, seizures, oozing blood then I will  have to send them to the vet hospital.   These amphibians do have some toxins in their body that is poisoning to dogs.  I guess depending on the type of  frogs/toads, but don’t take my word on it though, it’s just my two cents.  I do see the boys chewing on some stuff in their mouths  when we are outside on the backyard and when I say ‘drop it’, they will chew even faster, then swallow.  So I’m assuming they were chewing on these frogs or might not.  And so far, no foaming in their mouth except for Ranger, just some.  GROSS!

The boys know…

Comments Off

….they know that their master is leaving the house for a while, leaving them.

It’s really weird how they sense that.  The man is on his way to Texas.  I sent him off to the airport this morning.

The last few night as DB was getting his stuff ready for his trip, the boys were hanging around him in the room where he was, all three were laying next to the bed.  DB had to go to different parts of the house for stuff, the  boys got up and followed him and then back to the room.

This morning, they did the same thing, but then I was there to distract them.  Before we left the house, I gave each of the boys a piece of their favorite rawhide.  They were  busy gnawing on them things.  DB patted them, said goodbye to them.  Chase was the only one that stopped his chewing, looked up at him and at us as DB walked out the house.  His ears were all down and that puppy eyes.

When I was packing my stuff for a trip, Cooper especially cling on to me a lot, the other not so bad.  Cooper will practically follow my every step.  I gather dogs sense that they will be left without their owners, their humans who feed, play and tend to their needs.

Boys, it will be a while before you see your master again, that’s all I can tell you.
