Time to enroll

Comments Off

It is the time of the year, fall semester is starting around the corner, like the first week of August.  I still have not enroll for my classes and I know I should be doing it soon.  What am I waiting for, and the answer is I am getting too comfortable with my time at home and I do not want to sacrifice my walks and doing whatever I want with my free time.  Walking the boys is taking so much of my time these days, namely Ranger who is walking soooooooooooo S-L-O-W, it actually makes me yawn coz I was bored.  It takes an hour 20 minutes to walk our regular 40 minutes route.  Then I have to walk Skinny, aka Chase.  He is fast and I really like.

So, back to enrolling for this semester, I really have to do some thing about it.  I’m thinking of “Employment Law for Business” and “Business Math” which are both accelerated courses.  That means they are consolidated to 8 weeks instead of the regular semester of 16 weeks per course.  Yes, it will be very stressful and I will feel rush the whole time.  I will have to quit my weekend job at Satay2Go and probably no walks for the boys.  Sigh, I will have to sleep on this (accelerated courses) more, it’s already stressing me out just thinking about it.

Done for the semester

Comments Off

Yeehah, I’m done with school for the semester.  Eight weeks went by very quickly.  Last class was last night.  We had our final test and sorta got the final result from the instructor.  He said my final grade would be between an A or B.  I will find out when I log in to my student account this evening.  YES!!  That means I can claim tuition and text book reimbursements from the company.

Did I retain anything from the previous eight weeks?  Honestly, not much, not much of the specifics.  I think I have more gray now than when I started this class.  Stressful because it was an accelerated course, but I throughly enjoyed it.  The instructor was good – good sense of humor he has which made it a very pleasant experience learning Physical Geology.

Now, what am I going to do with the free time I have in my hands?  I know for sure I can spend more time on my walks; watch my movies from Blockbuster (there are 3 movies that have been sitting on the DVD player since January); Scrabulous on Facebook, and read the books I have bought months ago.

The following might happen and it only depends on my mood:  work on my scrapbook which I started a year ago, and maybe learn some tricks on trading on FOREX.

Or, if I don’t feel like doing anything, I will just look for Nicole and we can go have dim sum!  Right, Nicole? :D

Let’s study Physical Geology

dsc01227.JPG

I survived the class last night.  I got home from work, did my usual stuff but had my dinner 45 minutes earlier than my usual time of 5:30 p.m.  I left the house at 5:20 and drove to my company in heavy traffic.  Crazy, but at least I got a front door parking, sorta.   I’m so glad this class is held at my company instead of some other big corporations in St Paul or, Woodbury coz they will be a long, long drive for me.

Very frankly, this class has kept my interest.  The instructor, Mr Hickey teaches Geography and Geology, and he does have a great sense of humor.  I like teachers with good sense of humor, they crack us up, and keep the class alive.  What we learned on the first day?  Plate tectonic, the rock cycle and topographic maps.  There were all kinds of terminology that we had never heard of; what are the earth materials – rocks and minerals; and the major groups of rocks – igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.  I read the first part of the introduction which didn’t really makes sense until the instructor put on a video for us in class and it better illustrated the rock formation, cycle, how the earth’s lithosphere (the solid part of the earth) is divided into rigid plates of various sizes that move over the asthenosphere (the part of the earth).  It took me a while to get these few terminology phrases into my old rusty brain, and watching the video defnitely helps.  Yeah, I’m more of a visual kinda person when it comes to learning.

There are 28 students in our class, four from my company and the rest are “outsiders”.  The four of us coworkers taking this class are students of Inver Hill Community College ASAP students.  ASAP stands for Adult Success through Accelerated Program.  The first thing when we ASAP students hang around is “how far out are you?” or “did you take any of the competency tests?”  Competencies are earning credits from prior learning or experiences instead of enrolling for that course.  I quite like the accelerated 8-week courses but they can be very tedious and stressful, but that way I can get my credits in sooner.

Back to school

Comments Off

The time has come for me to get back to school life.  I still wish I can go full time in school and work part time.  Well, that’s a wish.  Maybe in the next few years I might be able to.

Did I complete reading Chapter 1 of my text book, The Essential of Physical Geology?  Nope, I didn’t.  One more page and I would have made it, but instead I was watching CBS Comanche Moon, the pre-queal to the Lonesome Dove.   Ahhh, but then, Facebook kept whispering to me telling me I need to respond to all those requests and messages that are sitting in my notification box and inbox.   That was what I did, abandoned the show but left the TV on in the living room and visited Facebook.  I tell ya, this Facebook can be addictive.  After 1.5 hours jacking around with it, I called it a night.  The Essential of Physical Geology is still sitting pretty on the dining table with the piece of paper still sticking out from where I left off.  Oh, the PC doctor fixed my PC so I didn’t have to use DB’s laptop.

Class starts tonight at 6 p.m.  I will leave office at my regular time, 2:30, rush home, walk the boys for about 45 minutes, shower, dinner and go.  Hopefully I can get out the house by 5:15-ish the latest.  This time around classes will be held at my company.  I know I could have stayed back after work, take my shower in the shower room and have my dinner and do my internet stuff in the cafeteria, but I want to get home and do all the rushing and stressing myself.  I have done the staying back and showering crap for 2 months a year ago and I hated it.  Very “mar fan” (troublesome), plus I don’t get to walk the boys.  Looks like I cannot break away from a routine, or should I say an addiction!  Nothing beats being home where I’m comfortable.  Anyway, classes commence at 6 p.m. and runs till 9:30 p.m.   I’m hoping the instructor will keep us awake and make the class time go by quick.

Yeah, I told myself I will try to get my 2-year degree in as quickly as possible.  But after my recent vacation, I sure feel like a bum.  Working around the house on snail mode.  My luggages are still not put away with all the stuff in them all over the guest bed.  I’m a total BUM!!  However, after looking at my degree timeline, I didn’t flipped, but reality sunk in.  So, I registered for a class for spring 2008.  The class I registered for is the accelerated course of Physical Geology – study rocks!!!  I talked to my coworker who took the same class this fall which she said there is a lot of reading but not writing.  Yeehah!!  No writing, just use my brain buckets to memorize the rocks!

Enroll or not to enroll

Spring semester starts next month, January 4, 2008 to be exact.  I thinking of enrolling for a Physical Geology class or Intro to Sociology.  But I really don’t feel up to it at all.  It must be the vacation that is making me so lazy.  These two classes are mandatory and are both 4 credits each.  I am aiming to get those 4-credit classes done with.  So, now, if I enroll, will I have enough funds to pay for tuition???  Urghhhhh!!!!!!!

Final paper fi-ni-to!

Comments Off

Am I glad this paper is done.  This final paper needs to be 8-11 pages and should consists of 1/3 from textbook readings, 1/3 project work, 1/3 class lectures, and 1/3 video summaries.  I think I got all in.  I had a jump start on this paper on Sunday night but didn’t really get it going til Monday night.  I am, according to my colleague, a typical college student, always work on their papers at the very last minute.  For the past couple of nights I didn’t get to bed til 11 p.m. and the beautiful zits are popping all over my face.  I never had that many for the longest time.  No problem, at least I got the paper done last night, busting my butt to summarize the chapters I was suppose to read.  In other words, I’m bullshitting my way around.  I’m just glad that the instructor wanted his students to write about our work experience in the business world.  I was able to write 10.5 pages of BS last night.  Sorry, Simmie, I had to cut you off from our conversation.

What am I suppose to do tonight since all I need to do is to drop the paper off at school and come home?  Watch DVDs!!!  I have 11 movies on queue at Blockbuster online.  I have already initiated them to mail two movies last night while working on my paper.  Obviously my mind was not totally focusing on my paper.  Frankly, I lost interest in this class.  My colleague who is sorta my mentor, who I call Ms MBA, said summer classes will do that to students.

August 1 is officially the last day of class.  That is the day we students have to go to class and get our grades.  Final papers will remain with the instructor for good as they will go to the dean of the business faculty.

Yippy-ka-yah!! Classes are almost over, and so is summer!!!

It’s done and over with!

We had our team presentation last night.  What a disaster that was.  I think of all the team presentations that I have done since I started college, this was the worse team presentation ever.  That team member who has not done any of his homework yet, nor the preparation for the presentation and said he wants an “A” for this class, made our team presentation so tacky with pieces of papers falling off the board.  It was embarrassing.  I wanted to dig a deep hole and hide in there for the duration of the presentation.  If I have known he was going to put up pieces of paper on the board, I would have made up PowerPoint slides.

After the presentation, the team members were given the opportunity to critic the team and, of course, I bombard my frustrations on that team member.  The other team member did the same.  I really hope I get an “A”, and that’s all it matters, a “B” is the minimum.

Happy Fourth!

Comments Off

Happy Fourth to my fellow Americans.

At least the weather is getting better, humid, but at least it’s not raining.  We had a gully washer yesterday which was better than nothing.  We really needed the free watering for the hay we got on our yard.

There are parades in every suburb.  I’m not keen on them coz it’s hot and humid out.  I rather stay in and Q and watch the fireworks from our backyard.

We use to get a few cases of beer, grilled some brats, steaks, drummies and chickie titties.  Now, just plain old H2O, brats, tities and green salads for our celebration.  Heading towards a healthy diet (try to!).

July 2007 marked the third year DB quit his booze days.  He survived but, of course, there are days when he wants a cold one or a Windsor.  He said beer smells good…..ahhhhh.  To curb those cravings, he goes for his Werthers sugar free hard candies, and keep himself busy.  He went for his liver test (blood word) last week and the results showed it has healed up very well even though he is taking  2400mg of Ibuprofen every day plus what other medication he has to take.

As for me, I am suppose to catch up on my homework which I am so behind.  We have two weeks off and all I did was 10 videos out of 15 and some research work.  I have not read my text book or prep for my team presentation.  I am totally not in the mood to work on my homework.  Instead, I am blog hopping, blogging, reading Smithsonian magazines, and debating if I should write paid posts to earn extra income to prep for DB’s departure from his job – after we refinance the house in August or September.

I think the worse is I am slacking at work.  My boss was gone since last Friday and I have been working on my school videos till yesterday.  Tomorrow when I get to work, I will work on my team presentation.  Tonight I will have to work on the other videos which I have 5 more to go.  *Lord, please help me to not procrastinate anymore with my homework*

It’s 2 pm now and I’m off to the couch to watch “Bobby“.

School – kicking myself in the butt!!

Comments Off

I am so ready to call it quits with this class.   The course I am taking is Principles of Management and there is a lot of work to it.  This is an accelerated course and I should know from previous experiences that accelerated classes are tough and require a lot of my free time.  I have free time right now and I’m blogging.

Why?

Because I’m so tired of watching the videos that came with the book.  I took as much notes as I could and I now need to summarize them to a 1.5 or 2 pages summary.  There are 10 videos to view and each video is 40 minutes.  I have till July 25 to complete these videos.

Don’t get me wrong.  I find this course to be very interesting.  Forming an organization, managerial hierarchies, ethics and diversity, globalization, control, planning, leading, and resources – all these sound so familiar to me.  I am fortunate to work in a corporation that has the exact formulas within the organization.  I am particularly interested in mergers and acquisitions.  I assume there are great deals of processes to follow that intrigue me.

With summer around the corner, which I think with the heat and humidity we have, summer is already here.  I tend to spend my summers out on the trails or just working on my scrapbook and jigsaw puzzles.   I told DB I usually slack a lot when I’m in a 16-week class and I work a lot harder in an 8-week course.

I know I need to get my credits in to get my degree quicker and that’s why I signed up for the summer class, but now I am totally kicking myself in the ass for doing that.   However, I will be kicking myself even harder if I didn’t sign up this summer.  Either way I’m stuck.   I suppose I simply need to sacrifice a little for something more important.

That is life……

School’s done and updates

Comments Off

Ok, this post is long over due.

Just to update a little, school is done for this semester. I handed in my portfolio of two papers on Tuesday, May 15th. I am so glad it’s done with. Sixteen weeks seems an eternity. I registered for a summer class, Principles of Management, which commenced on May 31. I even signed up for eFACTS which will deduct a monthly payment from my checking every month. Paying the entire lump sum is way too much for me. Boss even approved my tuition reimbursement application. Yippee!! It’s too bad my colleague is not signing for this class. So much for a buddy. I was super busy during Mother’s day weekend. On Sunday, I made some fried rice and curry chicken for the week’s dinner. In the middle of frying the onions, I called my mom to wish her Happy Mother’s Day. It is always nice to call home whether to my mom, dad or my sis. I always want to call my brother who is in Sabah, but he is located in the jungle with no service on his cell. Back to my call with my mom, it was short and sweet. We talked for 21 minutes because that’s all I have left on my card. I keep forgetting to buy more minutes, which I think is more procrastination than forgetfulness.

Mom and dad were still awake watching football. I got all the scoop about their remodeling of the bathroom and the best thing was installing air conditioners in the living room, master and the second bedroom which was room. She said she wants to install the air conditioner in that room so that when I come home for a visit I can sleep better “shu shu fook fook” (comfortable). The last time I was in Ipoh at my parents’, I was over at my friend’s home more than I was at my parents. After I was done cooking, I went to Mernards and bought two strawberry plants and three lilies plants. I even bought a barrel for the strawberries, extra dirt and cedar mulch. I went right to transplanting them when got home. Moreover, my lavender plants came 2 days ago and I planted them, too.

Just this pass week I was just tired. The whole work week I went to bed late and when the end of the day on Friday, I knocked out on the couch while Survivor:Fiji (recorded) was on. I was out for an hour plus till DB got home and I still refused to budge. My tired ass just couldn’t move, but I had to coz I need to get my groceries done and get dinner. Since it was Friday, it’s our junk food night – Chinese take out from Satay-2-Go.

Saturday, I went to the consignment shop to get some pants and jeans for my widening butt. I think I spend about 2 hours in that store going through all those clothes. Then I proceeded to ProEx to get my passport pictures taken. I hope that the pictures will work since the background is not sky blue. From there I went to Target and Cubs and finished my grocery shopping.

When I got home, DB was getting ready to mow the yard. After I put away the groceries, I went out to pick up poop. It was warm out and I could feel the sun burning my skin on my arms. Needless to say, I already have a tan and summer is not here yet.

On Sunday, Simmie, Forrest and I went to the Minneapolis farmer’s market. It was my first time there. The wind was nippy. Despite the weather, there were so many people out there. I bought 5 more lily plants. From the farmer’s market we wanted to have lunch at an Indian restaurant but they don’t open till noon. So, we went to the oriental store to get my oriental groceries done and after that we went to Sambol restaurant in Eagan. Great lunch with great company. I was so full that I skipped dinner.

It seems my weekends are always busy. I hardly have much free time to do my stuff anymore. *Just wait till school start!!*

Back to School

Comments Off

Spring break ended on March 24, which means back to grind the books and assignments again. I was supposed to read some chapters of my textbook, heck, I didn’t do it. Instead, I was watching all the recorded NCIS shows DB recorded for me.

Things sure didn’t change for me. When there is a break from school, the books are thrown aside and I will just relax. I spent every night of last week watching my fav evening shows. I didn’t even bother to prep for my assignment for today. I wanted to watch “Remember the Titans”, I didn’t get to it. This movie is part of the competency “Small Group Discussion & Leadership” I have to take. I put this competency for this summer, but I am not sure if it will happen. I’m planning on taking “Principals of Management” because a buddy from work suggested we should take this class together. This class is an accelerated course just like the HR class I took last fall. With a buddy system, it’s always easier should I have questions with assignments.

School tonight and that means it will be a late night for me. I am always wired when I come home from class. Wish I have another week off…….

Keeping up

Comments Off

School started last week Tuesday, 23rd. I’m trying to keep up with blogging and my school reading and assignments. Pretty hard to do. By the time I’m done reading blogs, which I have to say it’s a must for me now. Addicted?? I think so.

School starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9:50 p.m. It’s a long ass-class. I was surprised to hear from the instructor:

“I won’t be doing much talking in class. You guys will be doing the talking in this class. This class is four-frigging hours, don’t expect me to do all the talking.”

Four-friggin hours of class and only one break. Alamak, die of sitting, man. Can just imagine my ass growing wider every hour!

Thought I would be able to catch up with my blogging and reading my blogroll, nope didn’t happen. Gotta clean the house coz DB volunteered me to cook for his buddy who is coming over for dinner tomorrow night. As usual, kelam kabut, vacumn, dusting the 1 inch thick dust of the piano, pictures, etc and clean the bathrooms. Good thing it was -25F windchill this morning and early afternoon. I didn’t go for my run, the boys were super antsy. Bugging the shit outta me. Too bad.

Got done with cleaning and prep up the Monte – gotta put sheets and towels on the back seat so the boys won’t leave their fur behind. DB had to check over the car…put Heet however that’s spelt, checked the oil and added windshield fluid……gotta check them since it’s really cold out.

Put the boys in and off I the gas station. Was very glad to see the price of gas dropped to $1.95/gallon. Then we went to the dog park. Boys were like running everywhere. Really crazy. It’s as if they have not gone for a run or walk for ages. I suppose all the cooped up energy from yesterday evening and this morning. I didn’t run them yesterday evening as I cut Ranger’s nail too deep – onto the quick. Damn…..there was blood all over the cement. Super thick too.

Anyways, the boys are now all pooped out from all the running they did. I’m listening to my Chopin’s Nocturnes and blogging; instead of reading my text book. I still have one more day to finish my reading.

DB is busy completing his application for his job interview at Seagate for Tuesday. I’m glad to hear that, but both of us are trying not to be too happy about it yet. It’s a whole day interview with the engineering directors and senior directors. No interviews with managers. We thought it was strange. All the directors DB is interviewing with are Chinese (except for one Caucasian), those with mandarin pronounciation type of names….eg Song Xue. Is this is female or male?? That’s why his buddy is coming tomorrow night to give DB some interview testing skills. His buddy is the former VP of Contamination (ESD) at Seagate.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this interview will work out. DB needs a different job – a more brain challenging job, not a mind numbing job like his current job. We shall see.

Results from HRM class

Comments Off

Woohoo, I passed my HRM class with an A. Three more credits added on to my total credits. 11 credits out of 60…whew, long ways to go to achieve the 60-credit goal, but 11 credits is 11 credits. My next class starts January 23 for spring semester is an evening class to be held at the college. I have yet to figure out a schedule how I should do this – go to work, come home, get my running in, shower, dinner and zoom over to school, which is about 15 miles (30 minutes) from my home. If not, I will have to bring my backpack to work, get my run in, and then head to school from work (10 minutes).

Keeping my fingers crossed that this class will be as smooth as the previous one and teams are more cooperative. During the last day of my HRM class, I had to complete a peer review of one of my team member. Good thing the instructor picked that person. I really “hantam” the lack of support from this team member. In addition, there were several questions I have answer how the team was. Again, I poured my disgusted feelings out. To me was so unfair I have to get the ball rolling and kept asking the team for their opinion. KNB, no response from them till the last two weeks all of them were panicking coz we had to finish our final paper plus the presentation and our team paper. Igiots!!! Anyway, guess I’m done ranting. Let bygones be bygones. Let’s look toward the future. What the heck 2007 is just round the corner.

Done with this semester

Comments Off

Yes, at last, school is over for this semester. I completed my final paper and team project last Saturday. The team project was OK. It was nothing spectacular about it compared to the other teams. If my team had got together 4 weeks ago, the presentation would have been better and we would have more ideas for the entire project. Well, it’s done, can’t cry over spilt milk. Waiting for the results is the worse. Our instructor it will be end of month or early January. Man, what a long wait.

Anyway, today the weather feels like spring….42F degrees. It felt good running. The boys were warm coz their tongues were hanging to the side. I didn’t run far either, approx 2 miles coz I was tired from lack of sleep. Too stressed out from school work. Now, since the weather is so nice today, it’s going to be crappy by tomorrow night….freezing rain according to the local forecast guys, which half the time they were wrong. Maybe some snow during the weekend. It’s December in Minnesota and no snow? It’s almost 10 years I have lived here and this is the first time there’s no snow on the ground the week before Christmas. Let it snow but no freezing rain, please!!!
