Project Fano done

Comments Off

This is project Fano.

I have finally conquered the fear of sewing with knit fabric.  It’s actually not as bad as I thought.   Thanks to Yvy….thanks for the  instructions, tips and inspiration!! :)  It was very helpful, Yvy.  By the way,  yours is sooooo nice. :P

I practiced on scraps, playing with the tension of the thread, presser foot, etc.  The collar is super wide.   I knew it was big as I was putting it together.  Blame the Asian genes in me ….. bigger is better! :)  I sewed this in size Medium.  I really like the pattern.  I will sew this again in Small, again, with some cheap knits.  I still have the yellow left, so I will get this going with yellow and maroon.  If I succeed with the Small, then I will get the printed fabric, sew it with short and long sleeves.

This shirt, lelong, lelong!  FOC! :) LOL!!!

Another bag

Comments Off

Here I go again, made another bag that I have no use for.  All for the sake of getting rid of fabric.  I got the pattern from here.

Although the pattern did not call for a magnectic snap or a button, I should have put one in.  But, all in all, this bag isroomy for every junk to put in.   It’s easy to make too except for me the rookie, sewing the bottom to the body of the bag was kinda challenging but after getting the one outside body, the linig was a zip.  The pattern calls for heavier fabric but I only used good old quilting cotton for the outside with medium weight interfacing and the inside….it’s actually flannel!  I didn’t use any infacing for the flannel.  The flannel was meant for a jammie pants but I got lazy in making the pants, so I used it for the inside of this bag.  I think I still have a yard plus left of the flannel.

It just occurred to me I forgot to mention in my previous post where I got the pattern for this bag:

I got the pattern from Sew Mama Sew blog.

I really enjoyed sewing these two bags.  Next up, I might get this going or a wristlet.  Will see how the mood is! :)

Sewing again, somewhat

Comments Off

I have mentioned earlier in some posts back I want to get back into sewing…..sewing stuff other then clothes!!!  I might have to sew some lounge pants tho since the ones I have now are hole-ly.  I started looking at bag patterns some time ago and I do bookmark those I think I like and think i can do since I’m such a pathetic sewer.

I finished up this bag on Tuesday.  I started it on Sunday late afternoon, relying on the free light.

I finally got it all done – ironed it too, on Tuesday night, hence the low light in the above picture.  It’s a super simple bag to make.   I’m desperately trying to get rid of the fabric I hauled from garage sale, Etsy, eBay and Joann’s.  I don’t even know why I bought this fabric for this bag.  I guess I liked it when I saw innitally saw it but now, I don’t.  When I buy all these $5 or less/yard fabric, I don’t have anything in mind what to make with them.  Just buy them then figure out later.  I have quite a few fat quarters sitting in my stash plus all the the other remnants.

Now I, again, surfing the web for patterns, mainly bags and some simple wristlets taht do not require me to sew zippers.  I sewed a wristlet once and it’s not the best…one ugly looking thing, experimenting with zippers.

Will I sew the above ugly looking thing again or modify the pattern to make me sew it???  I don’t know, depending on my mood I guess, but I do have other wristlet patterns I saw but just don’t have the mood to get her done.  I have to say sewing is therapeutic to me….aAll is forgotten and the time goes by so quick coz I remember I can stay up till 2 am just to complete something, looked at the clock and it was way past my bedtime and it was actually almost time for me to get up!  Crazy I know but guess that’s me….the extremist.

The ABCs

Comments Off

Here are the ABCs I finally stitched up since I saw them on Aida’s blog. Great idea, Aida.

And, of course, this little bugger has to come bug me when I was laying these alphabets on the floor….gave him a good yelling to stop messing them up!  It looks like I’m forcing him to learn his ABCs!!!

This is another shot where Ranger showed up to join the “class”! :) Both of them look so depressing!!! but I think it’s too damn cute.

I used whatever scraps I have left in the scrap box of fabric I have…a lot of them. I got some batting for the middle and terry cloth for the bottom. I bought just a small yardage of terry cloth and I should have wash that darn cloth before cutting or doing anything with it. Terry cloth “sheds” so much – the fuzz were everywhere. I should have just used one of the old towels in the linen closet! But anyhoo, it turned out well.

Reversible bag

Comments Off

Here is the second reversible bag I sewn.  I completed it last night after the cut up pieces were sitting on the table for a week.

I saw this bag from Martha Stewart’s sit.  It looked really easy to make.  There is also a video on how to make the bag on the site too.  So I printed the instructions and the pattern.  Took the pattern to Kinko’s to blow it up to 200% and another 300%.  The above picture is from the 200% pattern.  I used regular cotton quilting fabric without any interfacing.  I regret not using any interfacing though.  The bag looks very “soft”

The below picture is from the 300% blown up pattern but the bag is not completed  yet.  The handles are not sewn.  They need to be top stitched.   I use canvas for the outter fabric.  As always, the bigger the piece is, it’s easier to sew.  The canvas material is stiffer, so I didn’t use any interfacing for this bag.

When I made the first one which I didn’t take a picture of coz it was not the exact pattern, and it was smaller than the second one I have sewn, it was a bitch to sew the “armholes”.  The “neckline” is ok.  The written instructions are not clear since I’m a visual sort of person.  I have to view the video a few times.  See how dungu I am with instructions.

Yep, these two bags were keeping me awake till midnight last night.  Actually I am making 2 of the red canvas bags since I bought a yard of the material.  Thank goodness for 40% discounts at Joann’s.
