Camping adventure at William O’Brien State Park

Comments Off

My camping adventure started on Friday, October 14.  DB got ready all the camping gear for me when I’m at work.  When I got home, he loaded them up in the car for me.  I brought 2 single oversize sleeping bags, tent, stuff for setting up the tent, 2 coolers, rugs, charcaol, lighter fluid, towels, change of clothes, pots and pans, some food, water and i cannot remember anymore!

Drove to my friend’s place, unloaded my car into hers.  Seriously, the next time, we are taking two cars.   We stopped to get some sandwiches at the Vietnamese restaurant and we started our journey.  It takes about an hour from St. Paul to Stillwater.

This is our camp site at William O’Brien State Park in Stillwater.  Picture taken the day we left:

We arrived at the park grounds and registered at the park office.  We got our permit, paid for it, bought a bundle of fire wood and got to our camp site around 7-ish. Its was pitch black. First thing we did was set up the tent and our sleeping bags. Two rookies working in the dark with just flash lights. Should have just turn on the car head lights and we would have done a quicker job. Since it was our first time, we weren’t that equipped. We didn’t bring or buy any good fire wood. We bought one small pack from the park office. The wood were cheap fly wood that are good for starting a fire.

Our pathetic fire we started with the cheap wood.
IMG_4209

We stayed up for a while in front of the fire, ate the sandwiches we bought on our way in, set up the propane stove to boil water for our Milo and crawled into bed. Yes, we practically crawled in since the tent is only for 2 persons. It was a damn cold night with the wind blowing at a good speed!! The worse thing was we didn’t put the top of the tent (rain cover) on, so we had a good draft coming in. I seriously didn’t know coz the last i went camping, it was not put on!

And this is what it looks like without the cover. We had dew inside the tent!!!
IMG_4212

And basically this is what it all looks like the next morning since we could not see a thing without much light.
IMG_4213
IMG_4215

After we had our breakfast of muffins, tea and Milo, we went out shopping at Walmart for a proper propone stove, loads of water, munchies, and grapes. We then stopped over at Menards hoping to buy firewood but they didn’t have any. We then drove to Cub Foods which was across the street for good firewood. Yes, good ones like oak will burn much longer. The bundle of wood were mixture of oak and birch. We bought 4 bundles. Next we saw a sign for rummage sale at the high school. Crazy us we went in and spent about 2+ hours.

Our loot!

our loot
THere are 2 single sleeping bags, a blanket, bags, sweat shirts, pants, books, and soft toys (for my friend’s school stuff)

On our way back, I had to stop at Starbucks for coffee….need my coffee for the day. Once we got back to camp, my friend started setting up the new stove and cook some comfort food of rice and stir fry.

IMG_4222
IMG_4223

While she was cooking, I re-do our sleeping quaters.  I put the 2 sleeping bags and the rugs I brought under our current sleeping bags so it’s not so hard on our bones!  Next, I prepped the fire pit so we could start the fire later in the evening, however, we rookies didn’t bring a lighter or proper matches to start the fire or stove.

Get this, this was how we lit the stove: pulled out a lousy floppy match (those matches you get from hotels or bars), lit up the cigarette lighter, lit up the match and the other person has to turn on the knob on the stove so the person holding on to the lit up match could light up the stove!!! OMG!!! We were so pathetic. We had a good laugh at ourselves though.

So we lit up the stove but my friend accidentally lost the fire on one side of the stove, not once, but several times. We rolled up some newspaper lit it up and started the other side and my friend ran over to the fire pit and dump the lighted newspaper.  Hence the fire going in the pit:

The munchies we bought at Walmart:
IMG_4227

After we stuffed ourselves with rice and stir fry veggies with sotong balls (heaven!) we had to go for a walk along the river to walk off the rice! :)

IMG_4227

IMG_4231

IMG_4239

Too bad we came at the end of fall, most of the trees are botak! There were hardly any colors to see.

After the walk, we started our fire and feeding our stomachs again with the munchies, grapes, tom yum noodles and more noodles.

Since none of us had a DSLR, we tried our best to get a good picture of the fire, but these are what we were able to come up with….which spells P A T H E T I C.
IMG_4241
IMG_4267

And it rained on us that night.  We had to scrambled to put the top on, again, in the dark with flash lights!  Shortly after we had our feast of “siew yeh”, we got ready for bed and

Oh and I forgot, there’s free wifi at the park! My friend was able to watch her Korean dramas. Crazy indeed. We are not exactly in the wilderness.

The next morning, we woke up and made our breakfast of hash browns, eggs and tom yum noodles and down it with tea, coffee and Milo! We were pigs.  Remember seeing the two bikes hooked up to my friend’s car?  We wanted to go biking after our dinner last night but I opted to walk, plus the trail were all gravel.  We thought on Sunday morning after we woke up, we could go for a bike ride.  Yeah right, I woke up at 8:30, and my friend at 9.  By the time we had our breakfast and cleaned up, it was time to pack up even though check out time is 4 p.m.  I wanted to get home around 2 to get ready for work the next day.

We finally left the camp site and out of the park at 11:20 a.m.  Got back to my friend’s place and unloaded her car and loaded up mine.  We were getting ready to go to IKEA to get a desk for herself around 1:30-ish, she accidentally locked her house and car keys in her apartment, plus she has no spare keys.  My handbag and her cellphone are sitting in her car.  I have my cellphone so we called and left a text message for her landlord.  Her landlord called at 1:36 and said he will come by within the hour.

To kill time, we went for coffee around the block.  Came back, we BS a little, took pictures, BS more and I was getting grumpy coz i was very tired – eyes closing and yawning till my jaw was about to lock.  I looked at the time which was 2:46 and told my friend I’m going home without my bag.   She said she will drop my bag off when the landlord shows up and after her shower.

Good thing I left coz her landlord texted my phone saying he is running 20 minutes late and the time he texted was 3:20 and I was already home in the garage unloading my stuff.  I even went out to toss the frisbee for Chase for about 20 minutes, no call from my friend.  When i was half way on my walk with Ranger, at 4:15, my friend call saying she just got into her apartment!!!  Good call on my own.

All in all, it was a good adventure.  We weren’t that prepared but still a good experience.  All my other times of camping were well equiped but i never lifted a finger to do anything.  Hence, the rookieness I’m calling myself.

The Franciscan retreat

Comments Off

DSC03521

Went to the above place for a spiritual retreat during the weekend.  It’s all scripture base and it was very beautiful.  This place sits on a 60-acre land.  Very peaceful place for meditation and reflection.  It is run by the Franciscans.

DSC03515

Can’t say much about the retreat but just wanted to put up some pictures, although there was no time for that too.  I guess I’m taking them for blogging material!  So here are only few I got that I like.  The one I really like the most is the chapel but didn’t get the opportunity to capture one.

DSC03508

There are rooms for all retreatants but guess what was the first thing that came to my mine???

“What??  No air-conditioning??  It’s almost 90 degrees out and humid!”"

Yeah, I’m really that spoilt!!  However, I hardly spent much time in the room.  Most of the time was spent in the main room where the group met.  Although the main room has air, but it was not on the entire time since the unit is fairly loud when the air kicks in.  I have to admit, the 3 days I was there with hardly any contact with air-conditioning, my skin looks plummer!!!   And yet when I got home, I walked right into an air-conditioning house!

DSC03520

The entire weekend immersing myself with scriptures, prayers and time for reflections was a very good experience.  I thoroughly had a good time and met a lot of people of diverse background.  Would definitely go back again.  Go back as “si-ku” (nun)! :D

Now, only if I can continue doing some of the stuff I did during the weekend while I’m home, would be great.  FB games are totally calling me but I’m so tempted to remove those games completely!!!!  Will see how strong my will is. :)

Berry picking

Comments Off

My friend, S, and I went to Northfield for picking strawberries. The weather was crazily hot and humid. It rained the whole day before and the morning before we went. The skeeters were having a good feast. When we got there, the owner of the farm told us the strawberry fields are soaking with rain water. He actually had us hopped on his cart, or is it an ATV because the wheels looks like ATV wheels to me. He showed us which field to pick for best berries. We both had a good time picking those berries albeit the horse flies and skeeters. Good thing about coming earlier in the morning after the rain was it was still nice and not hot yet. By the time we went to pick the raspberries, the sun was hitting on us like a roaster.  I would definitely go for blueberry picking next.

What’s for dinner tonight?

Comments Off

That’s the dreadful question we would asked each other every other weekend (that’s when DB does not work). I will cook on Sunday for the week which will usually last till Thursday. And since Friday is toward the weekend, I will cook dinner on that Friday DB is working. That fella does not come home till 6:30 or 6:45.

So, I think tonight’s dinner will be at this place.
1001001706a.jpg

It’s a Mongolian BBQ, to be precise it’s BD’s Mongolian Grill. It’s fairly new, foods edible. The staff are very nice, place is clean and presentable. You can have a few bowls if we want to but of course charged accordingly.  We have a coupon for this restaurant why not make use of it.  It’s the weekend and it’s junk food Friday!

The 3-day weekend

Comments Off

The 3-day Labor Day weekend went by so fast.  I guess as usual, weekends goes by quicker than weekdays, for me at least.  We didn’t go anywhere except to run errands and went for a movie, Avatar at the neighborhood theater.  The movie is in 3D and the ticket was so much cheaper than at the IMAX.  It was cheaper by half.  I was going to take today off but then the boss needed to meet with me.  Darn.  Was going to take the day off to work on the laptop we are using in the kitchen….mainly for recipes, checking the weather that kind of thing.  I want to get a newer laptop, like the ones I saw, Asus, at a compartive price and has all the bells and whistles of a different brand. However, DB said he wants to get more mileage out of the one we have first before getting a newer one. I was hoping to get a new laptop so that browsing for recipes is faster. Speaking of recipes, I roasted a chicken and bake a chocolate cake on Sunday. Hah, I must in a mood to cook that day coz I saw the choc cake recipe from my sister’s cooking blog, I thought i had better give it a try coz I sounds so easy to make. Well, it the cake came out but it didn’t rise as much as I thought it would. I blamed it on my 2-year self raising flour! :) I have to get a new packet of self raising flour and try the cake again. It has great flavor, moist and darn buttery. So yeah, this weekend, might have to give it another go on this chocolate cake recipe.

The weekend shopping

Comments Off

Last Saturday Nadine and I went to the mall. After I picked up my samples and a short chat with the lady at the beauty counter, Nadine and I headed to Nordstrom. She bought what she wanted and soon after I told her I’m going to the cheaper Nordstrom! It is the Nordstrom Rack where the clothes are sold at super cheap prices. I saw couple of sweaters but only bought one style but in three different colors!  I so want to get some pants but I could not find one that fits me.  Oh well, there’s still other department stores to check out next week.

And after the mall, Nadine wanted to go to Lowes out in Shakopee. She wants to check out Moen kitchen faucet for her kitchen. She said Mike was suppose to do it but she took the duty of finding one that suits her like on herself. I know why because I knowing her, her hubby will get the complete opposite of what she wants.  So  yeah, she found and bought the faucet she desired and we headed to Grizzly’s for late lunch.  Great weekend that, again, went by super fast.

Weekend came and gone

Comments Off

I was looking toward the weekend.  It came and left too darn quickly.  I am thinking of working 4-10 hours which will leave me 3 days off during the weekend.  It could be a Monday or Friday.  This weekend we were cleaning and did some unpacking.  DB was tinkering around with his rust bucket truck.  I bathed the dogs and cleaned the shower stall.  After all that I was spent, didn’t want to do anything else.  Wanted to sit on the couch and waste the rest of the day away but no can do.  Have to vacuum.  Since this is not our house, I vacuum every weekend, just to keep it up with the cleaning in case the landlord/lady shows up unexpectedly.

DB actually put up the ceiling in the bedroom couple weeks ago.  Finally since he had been working weekends he had no time doing anything else in the house.  I told him the good thing about where we are at we don’t have to mow the grass.  If he had to mow the grass he would be dead meat.  Anyways, the ceiling fan in our bedroom is up.

Before:

And all DONE. Lights and fan working perfect. It does not drown all the outside traffic noise but it sure is better than the floor fan.

DSC03058

The landlord brought the fan over several weeks ago. I thought he was going to set it up but DB said since we were the ones who requested for a ceiling fan, they bought it at Menards and delivered it for us. So DB said we should be putting it up ourselves.  But guess what???  The landlord and lady came over couple weeks ago impromptu-ly due to the water leakage problem.  They saw the  fan in the room up and apologize profusely saying they will pay us for installing it and also the pantry selves.  They said they should be doing it as landlords.    Thank the good Lord for such great landlord/lady.

Yesterday, Sunday I baked a cake.  I had too much time after I got done cooking for the week.  I made a banana upside down cake, recipe from Gertrude.  No pictures coz when I turned the cake over, it didn’t come off the pan, I had to bang the bottom of the pan, the cake broke loose and broke it did – into a few big pieces and also the coloring was kinda pale compare to Gert’s even though I used brown sugar!  Totally not worthy of pictures!!!  I really have to keep some dark brown sugar in the pantry.  But nevertheless, the cake tasted damn good.  Half the cake gone between the two of us.   Will have to try my sister’s choc mudd cake this weekend.

Randomness

Comments Off

It has been ages since I really posted  something non paid!  Sad isn’t it?

The only thing that is really worth posting is what I baked during the weekends.  Pretty much every weekend the oven is on.  Last weekend I must have been super hardworking, full of energy I guess.  I baked a banana bread and blueberry crumb cake.  On top of that I prepped for the week’s dinner.  I was tired the morning up till I started working on the nana bread.  Whatever happened, I have no clue.  I was cooking away in the kitchen.

Blueberry crumble cake (PW)
My disgusting looking blueberry crumble. Tasted darn good though.  We have been eating it with vanilla ice-cream.

Nana bread
Here’s the banana bread. Why do American’s call it banana bread and not cake? This nana bread is a favorite of the man, so he does put in quite a few requests a month!

I told DB no baking this weekend.  I need to let my over flowing muffin top a rest.  It’s more like giving my pants a breather.  No joke, my pants are screaming at me for suffocating them.

Since it has been hot and hot and humid and more humid (seems forever), I have shorten my walks with the dogs.  I still walk them in the afternoon after I get home from work.  The temperature is like 89F or higher plus no shady spots.  The boys, no matter how damn hot and humid it is, they still want to go for their CSI walks.  I call it CSI because they have to snoop every 10 yards or less!!  We walk them again in the evening since they cannot roam around the yard on their own, we walk them and get their business done for the evening/night.

Here’s a pic of Cooper after his walk. Catching some coolness in the kitchen tiled floor.  This fella is getting whiter day by day, but still loves his long walks.
Cooper chilling after walk

Ranger at the entryway. Everyday when we come back from a walk, he will lay just like that to cool off.  He is the real crime scene investigator.  Anything that is 5 yards or less he will stop to check it out.
Ranger chilling after a walk

Chase after his evening frisbee session in 90F temperature. He’s a slob. There’s water on his snout and he is my shadow.  Follows me every where in the house.

So there, my updates for now till Lord knows when.  :)   TTFN

Weekend happening

Comments Off

The boys, Cooper and Chase and I were out for our morning walk on Saturday. All was good till we made the turn on the road heading towards our house. The boys started running fast towards some thing. I was sort of day dreaming and when they both started scrambling towards the shrubs it took me by surprise. I then saw a doe, a very big white tail, right in front of the boys trying to attack them and the boys were going for the doe.  Picture of the doe is similar to the one here. (Picture source and you can also read more about the white-tailed deer.)

I have the boys on their leashes.  I should have just let the leashes free.  I was protecting the dogs but when I told DB what had happened, he said the boys are actually trying to protect me.

Anyways, the doe was not a happy camper.  She was huffing and puffing and going back and forth across the marsh and the pond where all the tall shrubs, trees and prairie grass are.  Cooper took a few tumbles when I tried to pull him away from the deer.  I could see the doe was ready to kick, stomping away!  Her hooves are loud when she cross the road, clomp, clomp, clomp and when she was stomping on the road.  And the way she was leaping high over the tall, tall shrubs was a sight.

Once I got the boys in a short leash I walked so damn fast away from the doe but she kept following us and huffing away.  If the temp was in the 40′s F I would be able to see the steam from her nostrils!  She was hopping along the shrubs on my side, disappear into the thick shrubs and popped back out with just her head, exactly like this picture below.

And here I am trying to get across the road but she did the same.  I finally went over to the side where there are town homes.  I heard a lady’s voice saying get away from the deer quick (the lady was standing on her balcony watching the whole thing).  When I got over to the row of town homes, the lady said she has seen the doe around lately.  She just gave birth and she also pointed to me where the doe had her baby….right by the marshes…..tall prairie grass.  The lady said it is very common for a doe to do what she just did when she sees other animals….proctecting her fawn(s), just in case the animals eat her fawn(s) up.

That doe kept following us all the way back home doing the same thing, disappear behind rows of homes and reappear.  She was so, so  fast.  Finally she disappeared into another wooded area when we were nearing our house.

That was my very first seeing a deer/doe standing right in front of my face, blowing steam!  Usually when deers see humans, they will run super fast but this doe is keeping her hatch safe.

DB said she could have came forward and start kicking at the dogs and me as she see us as a threat.  That was why he said I should let the leashes free.  Dogs no matter how domesticated they are will know how to defend their master against other animals.  That’s what the man said but honestly, that was my first reaction…keep the dogs safe – the opposite of his thinking.  Is it a woman/motherly kinda instinct?  Honestly, I was a little scared and yet wanted to take my phone out to take a pic of the doe!  Crazy right?    Of course I couldn’t, no free hands.  As for the boys, them boys were growling and heckles were up.  So they must be pissed of too!

This morning, when I was out for my walk with the same C’s, I saw the doe again…but this time I was at a distant away.  She must have smelled us (per DB) and she hopped away into the marsh.  I continued on with the walk and she didn’t pop her head out.

The movie, Avatar

Comments Off

Finally DB and I went to Great Clips IMAX at the Minnesota Zoo for our Avatar movie. We went yesterday, Sunday, for the 11:45 a.m. showing. Even though I bought my tickets at work, I still need to stand in line to at the ticket booth to get a “real” ticket. We thought we were early since we got there at 11:20 but dang, that place was jam packed. The line to the cinema was so long….waiting to get in took about 10 minutes after we got our “tickets”.

We were given the 3-D glasses, I called them the 70′s bug glasses. The theater was busy with kids and adults looking for the best spot, I guess. There some kids around the age of 8 and above. Since it was first time at a 3-D theater, I was all pumped, couldn’t wait for the show to get going. Of course before each movie, there’s movie trailers…all in 3-D…schweet!! The next one I really want to see is The Space Hubble.

Avatar finally came on 10 minutes later….this show is a must see again. It got my attention for the whole 3 hours.  The kids in the theater were quiet….not a sound from any of the moviegoers.  So worth the $13. This movie is a definitely all Oscars. The visual effects, graphics, the technology used to make this movie is spellbinding. Of course with the 3-D effects makes everything stands out much more.

I thought the 3-D effects will bother me but it didn’t. I wasn’t jumpy like how when something flys right infront of you and you try to avoid it? The only one part that got me good was when the Marines threw smoke bombs to the bottom of the big tree. It felt as if the bombs were thrown directly at me!

So, yes, all the raving, the great credits of Avatar, I will add my rave too, this movie is worth a second go. It’s mind blowing!  Even when i watch the making of the movie, I watched it a few times! That’s how good the movie is. I think I’m more fasinated by the making of the movie than the storyline. The story line I saw on the web said is similar to “Dances with Wolves”, or I see as the same as “Pocohontas”.  And movie reviewers on our radio talk shows said there’s big time racist in the movie.  I will shut my pie hole on this topic.   This movie is well rooted, in my opinion, and gives you the lesson of respecting and value what you have and also the differences in the world.  Big corporations with big bucks do not mean they can get their way! :0

DB and I will probably see this movie again with SD and BF, when, I’m not sure.  That’s how much we both think of this movie! :)

PW book signing

Comments Off

The Pioneer Woman book signing at the Mall of America (MOA), Nordstrom Court.

IMG_3580

I wanted to get to MOA by 11:30 but I thought the crowd won’t be that bad. So I slept in.  I thought I can go an hour later since PW signing starts at 1. Wow, holy molly, when I got there at 12:30, the crowd was crazy. There were so many people, a few hundred I would say. People mountain, people sea. There was a booth selling her cookbooks, I grabbed one, finally holding one in my hands.

IMG_3559

And I went hunting for my friend. She got here at around 12:50-ish and we stood on line, all the way to the corner away from the make shift stage. My friend and I were standing there could not see a thing at the front. The stage is a little farther where the red banner is.

IMG_3560

There were so many lines I don’t even know where the line starts initially. I saw a line starting at the book stand and another behind it. Then the another line where my friend and I were at snake around the middle and behind the stage and then into the maze.

IMG_3566
The maze and the side table next to the bookstand (see the cash register?)

IMG_3562
The stage. The line looks very close to the stage, very close but very far.

IMG_3564
The line at the back of the stage.

IMG_3565
And this is where we stood, can’t hear or see anything that is happening at the stage.

And finally, Ree, the Pioneer Woman showed up, a little after 1. Yeh!!! The crowd cheered, I walked over to the stage. My friend was holding my spot. Thank goodness I have a friend there, if not I have to ask the person behind me to hold it for me. Thank you, my friend, I really appreciate the time you had to spend with me that day! :) Ree said she did not expect such a crowd, that was the first thing she said.

IMG_3567

Here is a little video. I didn’t stand there to record the whole time she was talking coz there were too many distractions from the little girl, the person next to me, and the cameraman was walking back and forth the stage. Plus I’m too short!!!!! Big time disadvantage for me. Apparently there is a filming of the PW, I think, which will be aired on TV(?) that’s what I over heard, that’s the reason for the cameraman and the big-ass microphone thing up in the air.

I went back and joined my friend, we chatted to catch up. So much to catch up so it was good but the line wasn’t even moving….well, it did, inching very very slowly. Any opportunity to sit, grab it, it felt so good to sit for just a few minutes. . I believe the folks who are at the front of the stage have been there since the mall open doors. For us folks at the back were the late comers.

IMG_3572

Once we inched our way closer to where the stage is, I was a happy but dying of hunger.
IMG_3573
I thought this signing would take about an hour or two then my friend and I will have our lunch and do a little window shopping. Hah, not a chance!

IMG_3574

At this point, I was ready to give up. I was closer to the stage but still need to go round the stage and through the maze. It was already 3 when I took this picture. We have been standing on line for 2 hours. My friend said no, I shouldn’t give up. We have already waited that long, keep going.

Each person who present the book for PW’s autograph spent a few minutes with her, at least coz some of them not just have one book but a couple to six or a bagful of books for her autograph. Then of course picture time with her.  The ones with a load of books for her autograph must be those for gifts or giveaways.

IMG_3577

Once I got the side of the stage, I was about to faint, just exaggerating, but I am not kidding.  My head and eyes were hurting so bad.  Again I wanted to give up and thought should just go for some food and come back and the line won’t be that long. My friend said what if the line is still long, and we will be at the end of the line….back to square one. So with my friend’s encouragement, I hung on.

And we stood and chatted with each other and the people in front and back of us, made the corner of the stage and to the other side of the stage, and then I saw this:

IMG_3581

Marlboro Man and their two boys. Looks like he has became a celeb too! A lot of folks had his autograph the famous picture of his chaps.  The two boys are super duper cute.

IMG_3582

I went a long and had him autograph my copy too. I need to scan or take a picture of the page and put it up here. I have not done it yet, spaced it out. I now regretted I didnt get a picture with him. Darn!!!!

IMG_3583

After I had MM’s autograph, I was in line joining the maze. Very close yet so far. It was already 5:20 when we finally got into the start of the maze. Since my friend was taller she counted how many more loops before we will reach the front of the stage – 7 loops!!!! Again i wanted to quit and she said NO!!!!

Bubba Gump mascot was out there entertaining us too, that helps! I felt like my head was being run over by a semi, assuming from lack of caffeine and food. When I took this picture we were about 3 more loops towards the stage.  Also there were a lot of people who walk by asking what are we standing on line for.  We have to tell them about “The Pioneer Woman, a blogger, started a blog in 2006 and now has a cookbook”…..bla bla bla. Some even asked is it Sarah Palin!  Funny.  We thought Sarah Palin might not hold a book signing event in a mall!  Too risky, don’t you think? Btw, the BG mascot so happened to walk by and every one standing on line took a picture of this idiotic looking “shrimp” which looks more like a lobster or some sort of weird creature.

IMG_3585

(Honestly there were a lot more people behind us left once it hit 5:30-ish. The line was much much shorter. I am guessing they left for dinner and come back after or had to just leave because of commitments.?

Then two more loops. The girls in front of the table are the organizing folks from B&N and MOA, I think. They help take pictures with our cameras and one of them will take the book, flip the page to where Ree will sign and will place it at Ree’s when the guest sits next to her.

I was close enough now that I can even take a picture of her canggih camera (Canon). Just half a loop and I will be at the front and it was already 6 pm. Been standing online for 5 hours. By then my friend gave up standing, she sat by the benches around us. There were some women who took off their boots too. I wanted to but I persevered.

And this was how close I was with a little zoom, of course.

Close, just right after this lady, it was my turn. I was up on the stage just waiting for my turn. Nervous now. Could feel my hot ears!!!

There, my turn. I was so burned out, head was about to explode from the pounding headache. You can see my eyes, there were hurting so bad I could hard keep them open. I forgot to shut off the flash on the camera before I handed the camera to the girl….and PW’s preaching went down the drain for me that day…don’t use flash!! But every one there uses flash, guess I am not the only one then!

Ree was so funny, very pretty in person. She apologized to me for having to wait so long, but honestly, once I got up there, all thoughts of headache and waiting were gone! Told her it was nice to finally meet her.  It was so worth it. She asked where I was from, and said I have a very nice accent! Before I got up she reminded me to pick up a t-shirt on my way out. I spent about 1 minute plus or two with her, very quick but it was lovely. My very first time attending a book signing.

This is the t-shirt I picked up. The front…

…and the bottom back.

After the signing, my friend and I went for dinner at Tony Romas. I didn’t get home till 8:30-ish. The boys were all over me….3.5 hours behind for their dinner. I really enjoyed the meeting with The Pioneer Woman. It was fabulous getting to chat with MM too!  And again, a big thank you to my wonderful friend who stood by me and giving me the encouragement!  Thank you, my friend! :)

This little bugger was hiding under the clothes I sorted out on the floor all ready to go into the washer.  I picked the clothes up and this bugger tried to run but couldn’t.  I think I messed up its leg but I’m not sure.  It look edhalf dead and for awhile I thought it was actually dead that’s why I took the picture.  But when I moved closer, it started to move abit and blinked its eyes.  I swear the  thing next to the tail is some intestines.  It doesn’t look like a leg to me.  Honestly, seeing this little bugger appeared in front of me freaked me out a little.  Hahaha, I had to send a text message to DB asking him “how to get rid of a mouse”.  However, before he even reply I put on gloves and put that fella in a bag, and threw it in the trash.  In order words, I was suffocating  and chilling this poor little guy.  Rest in peace, mousey.  Trash day is today, sorry dude.

The weekend

Comments Off

The weekend is here already.  Good Friday yesterday but our market group had no day off.  Oh well, at least it was an easy day, no crazy demands from the bosses.

Went to church for the Passion of the Lord service.  It was moving and finally getting meeting people I had contacted from the church.  I will be going this evening for the Great Easter Vigil.  It will be a 2.5 hours mass.

This weekend I’m just gonna start on my sewing projects.  Bought some fabric but yet to start anything.  Been busy every evenings and nights at the laptop and reading.  I’m trying to unplugged the heater from the bed, the sort of like sleep number bed that we bought 10 years ago. The “heater” comes with the bed but I want to unplug it because sometimes it turns on when the boys accidentally hit the button which sits next to the bed.

And the highlight of my weekend I guess is trying to make mac and cheese, a new recipe, and grill some chickie boobies for dinner.

A typical Sunday for me now

Comments Off

Sunday is now a much more relaxing day for me.  I get all the cleaning and errands done on the week day and Saturdays.  Yeah, it sure beats all the rushing I have to do on Sundays.  I’m not working part time in the restaurant anymore, so I definitely get my stuff done on Saturdays.

I sleep in till 6:30 the earliest on Sunday.  Have a dose of caffeine, and out the door on my first round of walk, with Ranger and an hour plus later, it’s the other two boys’ turn.  It’s definitely eating my time away but since the snow is mostly all gone in the trails, I don’t bring the boys there anymore.  It’s muddy, and if it’s not muddy, it’s wet and slippery.  So back to the walking one and then two at a time.  Total time walking these three takes about 2.5 hours, sometimes a little more if I feel like it or if Ranger is really slow.  Ranger slows down a lot more since it’s getting warmer.

After my walks, breakfast.  Then clean up and get ready for church.  Yes, I have been going to church for the a month plus.  I wanted DB to go with me, but he is finding all the excuses he can think of.  It’s ok with me coz I’m not going to twist his arm to go with me.  I’m going to the nearest church around my area, Mary, Mother of the Church.  Now a days, churches have their own websites, too.  I didn’t know till I was googling for churches in my area and that is how I found out about this church. Oh another thing, I asked him if he told his mom I’m going to church, he said he didn’t tell her.  Hahahaha, smart booger he is!  Coz if he had told her, he will get an earful from her.

Once I get home, I’m back to Pet Society or I will be chatting with DB.  Yes, he likes it that I can now sit down and have a proper breakfast and lunch together.  We even have the time to have a movie in, too.  But usually Sunday afternoons are for NASCAR races.  And I even have the time to read the Sunday paper.  It has been a long time since I read the paper and today I even had the time to read my book I borrowed from the library at work.

I totally love the Sundays of doing what I want.  What I need to do now is get the baby cloth shoes done for my Ms E’s baby girl.  She asked me to get them for her, I promised her and yet, I’m procrastinating!!!  Her girl is already a month old.  Man, I’m horrible!!

A day at the restaurant

Comments Off

Saturday I was at Satay2Go.  It was quiet day.  Not too busy.  Folks are really tightening their belts.  Yeah, business has gone down a little.  But I’m still there every Saturday.

Of course with the a slow going day, David and I (David is the owner’s kid) had a go with our “kungfu” fighting.  This little fella is so used to me carrying him.  I told him he  weighs like 5 25-pound bags of rice.  Sort of exaggerating a little but he is really heavy.  The thing is he will wrap his leg round me.  So, on Saturday I was doing my usual pick him up and swing him down and then kind of got him halfway upside down.  He was doing the “I can walk upside down with my hands” thing.  I told him I will  have to let him go quick coz I was getting tired.  He said ok, so I put down.  He laid on the floor (yucks!) and he started to pull both my hands. I lost my balance, stumbled and to get my balance back, I took a step forward and guess what????  There was silence and then “Whaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!” I accidentally kicked his nuggets.  Holy crap!  His dad came out checked out what happened, I told him what happened and he smiled.  The mom said wants to play and wants to cry.  (Direct Cantonese translation.)

Was he manja-ing me then.  He was really crying, too, with tears rolling down, but thank goodness it was for a while.  have to “sayang” him more and said sorry to him.  He said “OK”.   Told him to get up and not play anymore.

Then the little boy, Alex, from the nail salon came over.  They both played Bagukan (think I spelled it right) and then had our lunch and they started to play more after food.  And yes, the restaurant was that quiet.  They found some small rubber ball, they started bouncing it off the floor.  This one time it rolled under the counters.  David laid on his stomach to get it from under the counters.  Alex thought he would get the mini hockey stick to help David.  Well, low and behold, wham!  Another “Whaaaaaaaa!!!!!”  What the hell happened?  Alex accidentally hit David on his right cheek and again on his right eye.  Boy, this time around the “Whaaaa” was even louder.  He got slammed twice around his eye and the most sensitive area on our face.  Dang, I bet that hurts even more than getting his nuggets kicked!  Poor kid.

David’s cousin was then, so he helped him up and soothed him.  The parents came out and took him in to the back of the kitchen.  Checked him out.  All’s well.  The mom walked him out to his recliner and lay there.  Put on his Loh Fu Chi DVD with Alex sitting next to David.  Alex knew it was an accident.  He even said that to us.  But we told him to say sorry to David.

Both incidents were funny after all the commotions.  Visited them yesterday and David was running around playing.  No blue black eye which I thought he would get one.
