Santa came early this year…yeehah!
I wanted to attach some pictures I took when I got home, but the blogger beta crap is preventing me. POed. Will post them when the developers get it figured out!
Our HR department had our annual holiday potluck today. What a spread of food, a variety of food – chicken wings (BBQ, roast), Swedish meatballs, lasagna, nacho dips, cheese and more cheese, deli meat, croissants, holiday sugar cookies, chocolate fudge, dips and more dips, salads, cakes and a ton of other cookies and cakes. We ate so much till we didn’t want to do anything…just goofing off. It’s the holiday season, there’s always good food during this potluck occasion. How in the world can I not try them? They sure look good, and tried them, mmmm….yummy for the tummy!! Wanted to make curry chicken for this potluck, but on second thoughts, I said forget it….too much damn work.
Came home and didn’t feel like going for my run. I did though. Walked/ran about 2.5 miles and that was it. Wanted to go over to the trails, belly has too much food in it, had to change directions to 134th/Nicollet/McAndrews. I had to do the shorter version. In spite of eating so damn much during lunch, I had dinner with DB….well, it’s the only time we sit down together and update and give each other hell.
It rained a little this afternoon. It still feels like spring today. Snow is on its way from Kansas. Colorado got hammered today. The cities is still waiting for its first major snowfall. When? Local meteorologist said it will be Friday with snowfall amounting to 1 – 2 inches. Will see. Maybe a white Christmas for us?
Yes, at last, school is over for this semester. I completed my final paper and team project last Saturday. The team project was OK. It was nothing spectacular about it compared to the other teams. If my team had got together 4 weeks ago, the presentation would have been better and we would have more ideas for the entire project. Well, it’s done, can’t cry over spilt milk. Waiting for the results is the worse. Our instructor it will be end of month or early January. Man, what a long wait.
Anyway, today the weather feels like spring….42F degrees. It felt good running. The boys were warm coz their tongues were hanging to the side. I didn’t run far either, approx 2 miles coz I was tired from lack of sleep. Too stressed out from school work. Now, since the weather is so nice today, it’s going to be crappy by tomorrow night….freezing rain according to the local forecast guys, which half the time they were wrong. Maybe some snow during the weekend. It’s December in Minnesota and no snow? It’s almost 10 years I have lived here and this is the first time there’s no snow on the ground the week before Christmas. Let it snow but no freezing rain, please!!!

The dateline to submit this contest is Dec 24.
I didn’t walk the boys this evening. I’m really tired today. I thought I slept good last night, but it could be not enough of hours. Anyway, I was going to write about Ranger’s farts this evening. Thought he would have taken his dump before I got home since DB came home earlier than I did and let them out. Well, guess Ranger didn’t do his big business. He let go one fart after another till it polluted the entire dining room. I had to get out to the backyard for fresh air. Something about doggie farts – they are, as what DB calls them, SBD – Silent but Deadly. I’m sure Ranger doesn’t care about it, at times I don’t but this evening the SBDs were horrendous. Been giving him his acidophilus Pet Guard Enzyme every night, yet he bloats up after each meal. I’m guessing he eats too fast and he swallows too much air. At times, his farts have real great tones to them. Wish we could record them. Right now he is sound asleep. We have to turn the air-filter on every night to make sure we have fart filtered air while we snooze.
Just received an email from my boss’s boss that her mom in-law passed away early this morning. My prayers and thoughts are with her. It’s sad to hear but yet it’s a blessings in disguise. Her mom in-law had Alzheimer’s disease for quite some time and was in a nursing home. She could not recognized anyone except her husband. However, at times she would be able to recognize the sons but after about 5 minutes or so, she would ask her husband who they are. She could not remember where she is, what she had done…just can’t remember. I really hope my parents will not have this kind of disease. I know my No. 3 granduncle had Alzheimer’s, too. It’s so unreal how a person who is so active and always alert will get this type of sickness. Makes you wonder how we will end up with one day.
I’m on lunch break right now from my MS Excel Advance class. The class is good, learning a lot of stuff which I can utilize them at work. But the breaks seem too long for me. Maybe I just want to get it done, go home and finish my final paper which is due on Monday night. I still have to elaborate 4 more points and though I’m half way there, I want to get it done and email it to the writing center at University of Phoenix to get some free writing advice. I’m pretty stressed out, too. It’s showing on my face – ZITS, the deadly ones. Hate them coz they take forever to go away and leave scars on my precious face. Vain, huh? Oh well, most females are just vainpots!!!
Two more weeks to go and school will be done for this semester. I’m currently working on my synthesis paper on recruitment and retention. There is so much to write about on this subject. Recruitment and retention is becoming an issue in the HRM environment. Recruiting and retaining high-quality employees is now a top concern for almost every company. Managers are challenged by turnover rates and how costly the problem is which will drive the workforce efficiency down and business growth. With baby boomers retiring from the workforce soon, HR needs to find solutions to hire the right skilled candidates to replace the retiring baby boomers, or put in place a retention program to retain the highly skilled baby boomers. Demographic trends that are affecting organizations and their workforces are the aging baby boomers; need for elder care; changing family patterns; increase rates of immigration; and work/life styles. In addition, global competition is another trend. Labor costs – lower cost of production – many companies are setting up their production in India, China and Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand). Will companies go off-shore to reduce labor costs? If so, what will happen to the company in US? Will the company have a downsize (reduction in force) or outsourcing some of their units?
I have been through an outsourcing process and the quality from the outsource firm was horrible. Some of the areas were good, but majority of the areas were just out right bad. Customer service from that firm was bad, too. In my opinion, companies should only outsource one area at a time to check out the performance of the firm they hired to do the work.
Had class last night and my team wanted to meet at 5:30 or earlier. I went in early at 5:15 and low and behold, just three out of five turned up early. Well, that was really nice. My team really sucks. There is no interaction between team members. Did my part of outlining the team project and none of them other two wanted to share their outline. Just frigging great. When all of the others showed up, we agreed to meet at Dakota County Library on Galaxie Ave in Apple Valley to work on our project. It’s about damn time they agree to meet outside. I have asked them to meet after the first week of class. GD, people, don’t they know that this is an accelerated class and we only have 6 weeks to work things out, but heck no. Guess they are the last minute kinda people. Just drove me nuts. Spoke to the instructor and she was shocked we are meeting that late. She is just not happy with how the team works. No kidding, what the hell happen to teamwork??
Anyway, I’m getting to head out for another class, MS Excel Level 2 (Intermediate). This time is paid my the company. I took a MS Excel Level 2 at work and that instructor was good for nothing. Could not answer any of my questions. That is why I’m going outside the company – cost more and boss encouraged me to go for it.
The boys are wondering why the hell I’m still doing in the house. By 5:50 I’m usually out of the house during reg work days. They are patiently waiting for their good old treats. Just how routine they can get. Took them for a walk this morning at 4:30 and they wanted to go farther. Didn’t wanna turned to the street where we live. Dogs. They are just spoiled rotten. Oh well, they are our boys. There is never a day, out on our walks, Ranger drives me nuts. He just loves to scoot out of the sidewalk or street to snoop what’s out there, even on a short leash. So, he will be pulling me along and being pulled by a 83 lb dog is no fun. Can’t count the times I have stumbled or lost my balance because of that. Mr Coops is much better. Well, he has gone to doggie college, so our money paid off. Ranger’s schooling was just up to kindergarden. So, there’s a big difference between them two. Took Coops to Kaos Kennel for his obedience and he turned out to be a decent dog. Kaos is also where Ranger was bred and where we adopted him.
Yes, I’m off today, however, it sure seems I’m busier then when I’m at work. Got up at 5:30, had breakfast, did some outline for my paper, checked emails and took the boys to the hiking trails. I was surprised how many people and dogs were out on the trails. It was windy but I warmed up fairly quickly. We ran about 4 miles today on the trail. I wanted to run the smaller trail after the 4-mile run, but my face got too numb for us to go any farther. Ranger seems to be kinda lethargic; he was not as spunky as when we were at the dog park yesterday. Maybe he is still tired. Well, he is 7+ years old. Age is catching up on him. Cooper is 6+. He is forever a hyper dog.
I just gave them some rawhide and Ranger is so darn proud of it. He picked it up and is walking back and forth my office. I sent him out so he can chew it in peace without Cooper staring at him! Good thing about Labs, they don’t mind the cold and wind at all. They can stay out there forever. If I have that kind of coat on me, I wouldn’t have a problem with the cold either.
It’s Sunday and I’m still working on the outline for my final paper. Served me right for spending two plus hours at the dog park this afternoon. It’s darn cold out yet I wanted to take the boys to the park. My thinking was to have them run free in the park without a leash. Walking them with a leash is a pain in the neck especially Ranger. A little history on Ranger. We adopted Ranger from his breeder in 2002. He was sent for any obedience class. When we brought him home to be Cooper’s brother, Ranger was a loner. He would play with Cooper for a while and his attention span last about 10 minutes. When it comes time to walk, he is just everywhere – left, right, center, back and forth. He’s a little bit better now but at times he’s back to his old habit. Ranger loves to eat. Ranger and Cooper are labrador retrievers, they love to eat. However, Ranger is an extremist. He will look for anything on the ground that can be eaten to eat. He is really one of a kind.
So, I took them to the park, freezed my butt off for 2 hours, came home and putzed around in the kitchen with DB. Finally, settled on my chair at 4 and worked on the team project. Being a part time student is really no fun. There is a lot of commitment and sacrifice to get the studying mode going. The class I’m taking is an accelerated class which is 7 weeks. Tomorrow will be the 4th week and 3 more to go. Yee hah! Few weeks to kick back and work on my scrapbooking before the next class starts on Jan 15th (I think). Next class is a traditional 16-week course. Will have more time to work on my homework and readings.
For now, the final paper outline is temporary on hold due to snoozing time. I’m off tomorrow. Will have to bust my butt to get the outline totally complete to hand it in in the evening.
