BlogRush – improves blog traffic

Comments Off

I saw this article on BlogRush on John Chow’s site so I thought I should read it and see if I want to mess with it.  Yeah, I read about it and click here, there and eventually signed up with BlogRush, and put up the widget on my sidebar.

BlogRush is a “Syndication Network” that will help enhance ones blog traffic.  The creator of this product made it in a way for BlogRush users to earn “syndication credits”. That means it will allow the user to post their post titles inside a widget on another blog based on their own blog traffic.

Those who would like to sign up can click here.  It is a referral thingy.  I wil see how this works on driving more traffic to this blog – extremely curious.

Anglian Home Improvement

Comments Off

Anglian Home is reputable for its high quality home improvements in the UK.   There are various types of products offered at Anglian Home.  If you are in the UK and would like to add value to your home, consider looking into changing windows and doors for your home.

The types of uPVC windows and doors Anglian offer are casement, tilt and turn, and sash as a few examples.   I particularly like the casement windows because it gives a mixture of fixed panes for wide views with top opening fanlights and side-opening casements for fire escape.   Some of the advantages of a casement window are it provides an extensive shootbolt locking mechanism with double weather sealer and has double bevelled appearance.

Anglian Homes uPVC doors also comes with a wide array of styles: Classic, French and Patio.  Their doors are practically maintenance free with beautiful finishing and awesome security like the multipoint locking system.  You can pick the diverse designs of doors to suit your home, for example, Georgian, Edwardian, Elizabethan, Regency, and Stewart to name a few.

All of Anglian Home windows and doors are design to improve the look of your house.  With more than thirty-six years of home improvement, Anglian Home understands the needs of its customers and the quality it provides to them.

M.A.S.H

Comments Off

I was watching M.A.S.H. Memories, or something to that effect, or it could be M.A.S.H. Reunion Sunday night on TVLand.   What got me to writing this post is how many gazillion times TVLand reran this series.  The whole of last week they had a M.A.S.H. marathon and DB was sucked into the couch.

This particular M.A.S.H. Reunion episode was hosted by Shelley Long and contained interviews with Hawkeye, Radar, Lt. Col. Blake, Col. Potter, Klinger, Trapper, BJ, Frank Burns, Hot Lips and Charles plus all the other guest stars.  I cannot remember their real names.   This episode was produced much earlier because Col. Blake and Frank Burns passed away in late 1990s, if I remember right.

My favorite character is Corporal Klinger.  I get a kick watching him trying to get out of the Army by dressing up as a woman or anything that is feminine, and all the stunts he attempted to get a Section 8 – a discharge from the military for insanity.  I like all the other characters, too, and practical jokes Hawkeye, Trapper and BJ played on Frank Burns the ferret face, or what a bunch of Koreans chimed out ”Frank Burns eats worms” taught by the no one else but Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce.

Frank’s replacement was Charles Emerson Winchester III, the pompous, arrogant, wealthy doctor from Massachusets who loves classical music and still has some compassion in him.

The saddest of all the episodes was the one where Henry Blake gets to go home for good on a discharge, the farewell from his compadres, and then the sad news from Radar that “Lt. Col Henry Blake’s plane has been shot down over the Sea of Japan.  There were no survivors.”  The fun loving, goofy Henry Blake wiped out of the series.  I wiped a few tears each time I watched this episode.

I have watched all of M.A.S.H. episodes since I came  here and still watching the reruns almost every night.  That’s DB’s dose of relaxation before bed, and before he shuts the TV off he will asked me what does M.A.S.H. stands for and I have no choice to remember it: Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.  If I can’t remember it, I ought to be shot!

Popcorn machine for your home theater

Comments Off

DB’s friend who moved to Thailand is one guy who loves gadgets.  I have to say he makes good money as a vice president of some company and he sure knows how to live like a king.  The times we were over at his house for movies in his home theater, he bought one of these popcorn machines, quite similar to the ones below.

popcorn-machine.jpgpopcorn-machine2.jpg

It was so convenient especially when there is a big crowd, and it looked so cool having that machine in your own home.  His 14-year old daughter and her friends have this game each time we were there – they would popped all the kernels they can and dumped it on us adults.  Kids!!  Who cleans it up?  Their dog!

Smart For Two

Comments Off

DB sent me this website on Friday, told me to check it out.  He sent it to me at 2:15 p.m. when I was trying to get my reports done, I clicked on the link once and didn’t have the time to read through the verbiage.  I was actually trying to bust my butt to  get stuff done since I was wasting my time chatting online with Simmie and then with my neighbor for an hour.  Payback time!

I asked DB what the hell was that, he replied “A new style car.”  My reply was “As long as it’s free, I will take it.” You know what his response was: “Not this one, major coffin on wheels!!!!!!!!!”

Is it Monday, already?

Comments Off

Golly, Monday is here and my mind keeps telling me it’s Sunday.  I’m must be tired: eyes are itching and stinging, a sign of tiredness.  Still putzing while at work.

It was another super duper quick weekend.  I didn’t feel like blogging – not in the mood and was busy on the phone with Nicole.  “Boil porridge” that’s what my mom will have said she’s around and will give me that disgusted look.

On Saturday did my usual grocery shopping and ran some errands; did the usual hateful chore; and cooked dinner.  I was on the phone again with Nicole and Simmie going over our plans for the next day.

The three of us met at Surabhi Restaurant, an Indian (the one with the red dot, not the feathers) restaurant for lunch.  It was the first time both Simmie and I met Nicole.  It is always nice to put a face to the voice.  From there we went to Ikea and to the Super Target in Minnetonka, I think that was where we went :) and to Trader Joe’s.  I have wanted to go to Trader Joe’s for the longest time since my brother in Boston told me about it.  Cheap organic grocery store.  It beats the prices at my neighborhood organic store, Valley Natural Foods.  It is a co-op store where the business supports the local farms and products.  I step into that store if I need something with no MSG, transfat or just plain organic.  Yeah, I’m a little bit going towards that direction.  Also, I have never drove to that part of the city (Minnetonka and Chanhassen).  Simmie, hat’s off to you!  You sure knows where the best places to go.

I can’t wait for the weekend again.  Looks like I’m wishing my life away!  But I like weekends *a tinge of whinning going on here* Maybe some cheese to go with the “whine”?

Charity starts at home, right?

Comments Off

When I was still in school, whether it’s primary or secondary, I will bring home a donation sheet from the school.  My parents told me charity begins at home.  That’s right.  My parents would put down a few bucks and then my aunt, and sometimes my mom would asked her girlfriends to donate to my school.

I have been giving to charity ever since I came to the United States: March of Dimes, St. Jude’s Children Hospital and our local children hospitals and schools.  When my company started the Employee Giving Campaign 4 years ago, I continued to give and has broaden my list since which included our local humane society.  There is an option on the form if I want the organizations I am donating my money to know who I am.  I have always check NO on the form, but guess what??

img_0324.JPG

These were received on Friday and Saturday.  Two days and there were about a dozen asking for money.  I threw some away from Monday and Tuesday’s mail.  There were more last week.  I only keep a few on those I have an interest in.  The rest were sent to me by some organization selling my address to other organizations.

It is good for us to donate to charity for tax deductions, but I like to choose which organization I like to contribute to, not any Tom, Dick or Harry charity.  I even received mailings from the Jehovah Witness org and so many more that I didn’t bother to open them.  They can waste their money printing them letters, forms and flyers, I am still the winner.

Tablecloth for our beat up table

Comments Off

We have the same dining table since we moved to our first house in 1999.  When we picked up the table and chairs from the warehouse, I thought about getting a tablecloth for the brand spanking new table to prevent any scratches.  Hubby said no, he prefers it bare, apply some Pledge and it will be fine – no scratches.  The table is now 8 years old, gone through a few bottles of Pledge to get rid of the scratches, and also lived in 3 different houses, that dining table definitely needs a nice table cloth to cover up the scuffs and to beautify it.

Another parcel

Comments Off

Christmas came early for me.  I received another parcel from my family.  This one is from my parents.   I was expecting it last month, but nothing from the mail man.  It came yesterday and it was all wrapped up with brown paper and tied up with rafia strings.  On the picture below, I was too anxious to open up the parcel, forgot to take a picture with the rafia strings on.  It’s been a long time since I saw a parcel wrapped up with those strings.  It must be dad’s work coz it was hard to untie them.  He always does a good job with the rafia strings.

What’s in the parcel??  Fertilizers – “fei lui”, in other words, junk food that are too good to say no.  Again, I didn’t take a picture of the packets of chilie tapioca chips.  There were bags and bags of them.  DB loves them and I told my mom about it.  I could find them here in the Asian stores, hence this parcel from my folks.  So far, we finished up 3 bags, that’s pretty good, I think.

Thanks, Mom, dad for the wonderful treats! :D

Hassle Free Black Friday

Comments Off

The holiday season is just around the corner.  There are only 103 days left till Christmas.   Fall and Halloween decorations are out on display and are on all store shelves.  The biggest holiday of the year is Thanksgiving and the day after is one of my favorite days, which is called Black Friday in the United States.  Black Friday is sort off the kick off for  the Christmas season shopping.  I guess it is also a way to walk off Thanksgiving dinner.  Normally there are discounts on all products from the retailers.  We usually do not know what are the items that are good buys until the ads and flyers are published in the Thanksgiving newspaper edition.

There is a way to find out what are the deals from retailers through Black-Friday.net.  You can sign up for bfads via email and you will be notified when there are new Black Friday ads are posted.   I particularly like Kohls deals.  Their deals are really to die for.  Their entire selection of Dockers are 55% off.  I mean I can buy a pair of Dockers for only $13.   In addition to Dockers, I like their 60% off for all outer wear selections, sweaters and bed linens.  Then the next best thing is if I spend every $50 in purchases, I get a free $10 Kohls Cash Card.  That is really swell, and also check out Best Buy‘s deals on electronics, DVDs and games.  The sale prices on their jump drives, memory cards, blank DVDs and so much more are exceptional. These are some of the items I go for at Best Buys plus  games for SD’s playstation.

Black-Friday.net’s site is easy to use.  You pick your store and the list of sale items are displayed for you to pick from.  Once you pick your choices, you can either shop online or go straight to the store and pick them up.  At least you don’t have to stand on line at 5:00 am, still kinda woozy from the night’s partying, fighting with the crowd.

Do check out Black-Friday.net bfads for your Black Friday hassle free shopping.  It is worth it!

A snap of a finger, fall is here

Comments Off

Since I came to Minnesota, everyone I met, even strangers having a news, sports, weather conversation said this: “This is Minnesota, if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.”

Last week Thursday, we were still in shorts and sleeveless/short sleeves in 80 to mid 80s Fahrenheit temps .  On Friday, we are wearing long sleeves, sweatpants/shirts.  The temp on Friday was 64F for the high.  The temperature is still dropping as I’m writing this.  Because of the cold front from Canada, Minnesota is feeling the cold arctic breeze.  Aaahhh, Uncle Lee, you sent some cool Canadian air to the Midwest.  Very thoughtful of you :D

I really like this cool days and nights.  The skeeters are disappearing.  I can’t wait for the first hard frost, then the bugs will definitely be gone.

Fall is not officially here yet, but last weekend and so far this week we are feeling it.  I kept telling myself to bring the camera with me on my evening walks with the boys, hah, I forgot again and again.

The boys are loving this cool weather, too.  Less panting and they can walk forever!  I shouldn’t complain since that is the only form of exercise I am into now.  Too lazy to work out on the elliptical or the Bowflex.

DB is thinking of turning the heat on tonight.  The weather channel says the temps in the cities will drop to the mid 30s Fahrenheit, I said it’s too early in the year to turn the heat up.  Poor guy, everyday since last week he kept telling me “We have to move to Texas or somewhere where it’s warmer in the winter.” o.O Yikes for me!

Someone loves my blog

Comments Off

i_love_yr_blog_jpg.gif

Awwww……I feel so special, like Trinity who loves my blog so much, I can’t describe how it feels.  Ecstatic :D   I’m grinning from ear to ear.

One of the reasons why I started this blog was to update my sister on what’s going on with me.  I do ramble on with my life here in Minnesota on this blog.  I try to be as articulate as possible; can’t write like a pro, but at least I can spill my thoughts out in words and it’s readable.

Now that I am writing some paid posts, there are more posts on this blog that are fillers, I have to admit that; however, I try to post the filler posts with something more meaningful.   I’m not a creative writer, so bear with me, I know my writing is more on the formal side.  I can’t write anything funny or a story, but what the heck, I think I am mighty proud of what I have accomplished with my blog, plus I have learned some things on the back-end of it, too.

So, Trinity, a BIG thank you to you for sending this love across the big pond to me.  :D

Exam Prep Software

Comments Off

A friend of ours, Nadeen, who is actually DB’s coworker, is still working on her Mortgage Broker Exam.  She told us the classes are not easy.  She has to attend classes every evening for 4 weeks.  Her instructor mentioned CompuCram, a mortgage lending prep exam software to them.  It cost about $69.00 and as soon as you purchase it, you can download it immediately to your PC.  The questions on the software are not precisely similar to the test providers, however, they are very close in style to the questions from the examination boards.  The software is 100% guaranteed money back to assist the candidates to pass their exam the first time.  When you purchase the software it is customized to the state you would like to obtain your license.   The questions are specifically written by a group of mortgage professionals exclusively for the state you wish to attain your broker license.

Nadeen said she is trying extremely hard to pass the exam as the real estate exams are established on national and state laws.   I am sure she will give CompuCram Exam Prep Software a thought particularly it has so many different variation of questions.  Try it and I am sure it will help you succeed.

Hello world!

Comments Off

Sorry folks, I suppose you folks are wondering what the heck did I do to my previous blog.

The smart me upgraded to the latest version of WordPress, and everything went haywire.  Posts located in different sidebars, tags were all showing, unable to write, and the laundry list kept going.

In the end, I exported the posts, etc to my hard drive, and I removed the entire WordPress from my domain, then I reinstalled it.

It’s still not working 100%. I need to tweak it a little bit more.
