New workstations

Comments Off

Today is our HR area to receive brand spanking new office furniture.  The old chairs and all workstations were 5 years old.  I suppose management received too many complains from its employees about ergonomic chairs and workstations.  The chair I received from Facilities has adjustable seat depth lever and also for the arms, too, plus a back lumbar adjustment.  The big, big boss has those leather ones with really luxury seat.

Here I am taking pictures because I feel like it.

That’s me doing a self portrait.

A picture of DBster after our return from the birthday party. Not a very good picture.  Sorry for the very poor quality!

I’m posting these pictures up so that when my parents are in Spore this Wednesday, hopefully my sis will know what to do.  Just in case they can’t recognize DBster.  It has been years and years since they saw him.

Demolishing the bar

Comments Off

Our former neighbor is getting rid of his wet bar in his basement.  He wants to know if we are interested with those bar stools that he bought when he built the bar.  I have to say NO to it because those stools look so old and worn out.  I like those that are made of metal and they swivel, with a nice back to lean back.  If not, it will be hard to sit on tall chairs without the back which gives me a backache.

Justin’s graduation

Comments Off

Justin will be graduating May of next year.  Graduation is May 27th and graduation party is on the 30th.  Her mom called us and told us two weeks ago.  We thought of going a day early and enjoy a Texas bed and breakfast in San Antonio.  I am actually looking foward to our trip to Texas next May, however, we need to cancel it because if SD is giving birth during the week of the 27th, we are staying here.

Gift ideas

Comments Off

Christmas is about 2 months away.  There are Christmas decorations in every mall I went to this afternoon.  I am looking into some christmas gift ideas for SD and her BF.  I want to make it special this two are such a great pair.  Maybe what I should do is get a baby picture of both of them and have them on a photo canvas as a Christmas gift cum house warming gift!

Good old days

Comments Off

SD is cleaning up her apartment for their move to their new home.  I found a box sitting in the entryway closet not too heavy, and it was not sealed.  I asked her what is inside, she told me there are the trophies she received from her days playing softball for JM Highschool.  She was with the softball team since her junior days.  I remember seeing her picture in the papers, too.  The father was real proud of her.

Bath accessories

Comments Off

Since I’m doing so much shopping for my coming trip, I’m thinking of getting some bathroom decor for my sister, or my mom.  It would be nice if I can buy some and bring along with me, however, most of those items are quite heavy and it takes up space in the luggage.  Some examples of what I’m looking at are tissue box  holders, and toothbrush holder.  Well, maybe I might have to look into getting some for my bathroom.

Computer upgrade

Comments Off

DB’s PC is running super slow these days and  we are wondering is it needs more RAM.  He is looking at some IBM memory cards to upgrade the RAM.  Since he started his classes for his “project”, his PC has a very good workout.  There are always something to download from his classes, and there are 4 programs that he uploaded to his hard drive.  I think if he upgrades it now, he won’t be complaining too much every week.

The mistaken package

Comments Off

When I got home from work yesterday afternoon, DB told me my Victoria’s Secret’s package is sitting on the chair at the dining table.  I was wondering why it came so early.  The email I received said it was ready for shipment.  Mhmmm….

img_0427.JPG

Opened up the package and all the effenheimers were flying in the office.  None of the items in the bag were the ones I ordered.  Yeah, the sizes were correct, but wrong colors, items, style, and short of some items.  It was definitely not my order.

img_0428.JPG

I opened up the email sent from VS and went through item by item, all wrong.  Again effenheimers were going along with each word and sentence.

I picked up a pen and started marking the items for return and in exchange for……Then I saw it:

Dear valued client, this package is being sent from – N____ P____

Well, sure fired up for nothing.  This package was for my sister’s friend.  I have to bring it along with me for delivery.  I think I need to charge them for some sort of service charge.

Running vs walking

Comments Off

I busted my knees almost 2 years ago.  From all the years of running, finally my knees are telling me they have enough of the torture I’m putting them through.  It hurts to run downhill or walk down the steps.  I don’t even know how to describe the pain.  At times I have to limp when I walk.  Sometimes walking on flat ground or bending my knees, I get this sharp pain on both knees or it could be on one or the other knee.

Now that I’m just walking and not pounding the sidewalks and streets, my knees are doing better.  I really missed running though.  It feels very good when I’m running.  It’s the “rush” I like that is the more I run, the more I want to do it.  It’s addictive.  I do all my thinking when I’m running.  When I run I know I burn a lot more energy and I’m constantly hungry.  I eat a lot when I run and not gain a pound because I run 2 times a day.  I over did it, but back then, I had my reasons.

Everyone told me to walk instead of run.  Walking does not have that kick I am looking for.   It’s actually really boring.  Although I walk with the boys, it adds some fun to it, but the “rush” is not there.  If possible I will speed walk.  I will try to speed walk 3 miles in 30 minutes.  That is not easy with 2 busybody dogs who have to stop and snoop every 10 yards or less.

Now that the cooler weather is here, I have been walking the trails again.  On some parts of the trails I will run up the gradient or down.  It feels good because I could feel my legs, hips and butt are working out.  The stretch and my heart beating 200 mph is a great feeling.

Walking is good but it seems like I need to walk 3 extra miles to burn the extra pound.  With all these walking I have been doing, my feet have a funny twitch to them now.  The best is have an amputation from the knees down! :)   Just kidding, but that’s really how it feels.  The twitch/pull is on the top of feet where the bones are and at times on the sides of my feet.

This weekend I will have to pay a visit to DSW for a new pair of tennis.  Hopefully with a different pair of shoes the pain in my feet will go away.

Credit cards

Comments Off

After the episode of our bankruptcy few years ago, we never thought we will be able to apply for credit cards.   Both our credit scores were so bad, it was practically down to the 200s.  We received a lot of credit card applications promoting the 0% APR balance transfers.  We went to a seminar for folks like us 3 months after.  The program encouraged bankruptors to apply for secured credit cards to rebuild our credit history.  Not all banks offer secured credit cards, though.  Another type of application we need to avoid are those credit cards with cash back progams.  This is a reward program that offers cash back or rebate incentives and it usually requires a good credit standing for approval.

Charles Schultz Philosophy

Comments Off

Charles Schultz Philosophy

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip. You don’t have to actually answer the questions. Just read the e-mail straight through, and you’ll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winner for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Acheivements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
 Easier?

The lesson:  The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

Insurance

Comments Off

SD and BF bought a Saturn Ion recently with the understanding that SD’s mom will pay for the car insurance.  Her mom made a deal with her: it’s either mom for the car insurance, and the money from SD’s bonds will be cashed out for the new car downpayment, or mom pay for downpayment and SD will take care of the insurance.  SD chose the first option.  Of course being the Becca Biatch she is, she said she changed her mind don’t feel like paying for her insurance anymore.  Very lovely of the mom.

Anyway, DB and I were able to bundle our home insurance, and SD’s insurance into one package with our insurance agent.  This agent totally did a wonderful job, and even asked if we need travel insurance for our trip.  This is call great customer service.

TGIFF Random crap

Comments Off

Yeehah, it’s Friday, a rainy, cool morning to wake up to.  Had to come in to work to complete the reports.  Wanted to call it in this morning, but just couldn’t do it.  Something about me, I cannot call in and say I’m taking a sick day when I’m not sick.  In my books, it is not justifiable.  DB can do it in a heartbeat, but not me.  No matter how much I don’t want to be there, I still can’t do it.

Received great news from SD yesterday morning.  She’s pregnant and 7 weeks along.  Had her first doctor’s appointment yesterday and all went well.  The due date is around May 29.   The grandparents-to-be are super duper happy for them.  We know how much they wanted a baby.

Our plans to visit Texas on May 27, 2008 will most probably be cancelled.  Justin’s graduation is May 27 and the party is May 30. We will all be missing it but we rather stay up here and wait for the new arrival!  Db said it’s no contest which comes first.  Amen to that.

We will be going for a surprise birthday party tonight.  It’s my friend’s birthday, the one who said I have a big butt!  Well, since she  told me that, I totally cut my snacking down and stuck to my 3 meals a day.  Main meal is still dinner and so far it’s working great.  Jeans, pants, shirts are not tight anymore.  Hope to keep that up for good.  Fingers crossed.

Placed a bunch of orders in from Amazon.com, my favorite place to shop, and I can’t wait for them to arrive.  Majority of them are gifts to bring along for my trip.  Also, I bought our tickets for SIN/KUL/SIN last evening.  All set for tickets and the shopping continues.

*28 more days counting down*

Securing loans

Comments Off

Trying to refinance our home is not coming along that that well for us.  We want to obtain a secured homeowner loan from our local bank, which is fairly easy, and that was according to the representative.  However, because of our current mortgage which is an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) loan with a fixed rate for two years.  It’s not exactly two years yet, but we need to refinance as soon as possible to bring our monthly payments down.  In order to refinance with a lower interest rate, we need to pay a penalty to get away from the ARM.  So far the bank is still working on it.

If we are in the UK, The Thrifty Scot has over 200 secured loans for us to choose.  All banks are the same across the globe.  They will check for credit score/history, employment, and financial standings.

Thrifty Scot’s personal loans are also available if we need it for purchasing a car, for example.  They have 500 different plans for us to pick.  But there is a kicker to these types of loans.  Personal loans are usually unsecured loans, that means, if we have bad credit, we probably will not get approved.  I’m lucky when I applied for a personal loan through my credit union, I was approved right away, however, the credit union had to use my Monte Carlo as a collateral.
