Char Siew

Comments Off

OK, Db cooked the first batch of char siew couple of weeks ago.   Between the both of us, we finished it on yesterday.  He told me to marinate the other tenderloin on Saturday.  So I did but he didn’t get to cook it on Sunday.  I baked it last evening in the oven, and broiled it for the last 10 minutes.  It is now Db’s favorite type of pork: great for sandwiches, snacking and cooking.  Looks like I need to hunt these marinates from the store when I’m back from vacation.

Man and his toys

Comments Off

I like the way how our TV in our bedroom is.  It is sitting on a entertainment center and in my opinion, it is just fine.  But, my dear hubby says he cannot see the TV when he gets to bed.  He has to shift the TV to the side a little which makes it looks quite untidy.  I told him whatever makes him happy, just do it.  Well, he thought of an idea couple of weeks ago.  He thought we should use a tv mount to mount the TV up on the wall!!!  I thought he was talking about the 27″ TV in the bedroom, but he was thinking about the TV in the exercise room which is only 19″.  He actually had bought the mount many years ago but did not use it.  I will see what he is up to these few days.

Looking for new golf clubs

Comments Off

Chris is an avid golf player.  He is the guy who lives across us (we have two families that live across us) and every other afternoon he will be hauling his clubs for a round of golfing with his buddies.  Chris was asking DB if he was interested in golf.  This was before we even moved in when he asked us this question.  DB told Chris he is not into golf anymore.  The reason Chris asked DB was because he wants to find someone to buy his Nike golf clubs which are 6 years old.  The entire set comes in a red stand bag, the putters, wedges, irons and whatever else.  Chris wants to get a new set and his golfing buddies were not interested in his old set.  I told him he should eBay it out.

Weather proofing the windows

Comments Off

DB was so busy yesterday with his last minute winterizing the house.  Since we will be leaving soon, he busted his butt to get the windows winterized for winter.  I came home from my walk, helped him a little and went into my office and grabbed my camera.  I took the picture below and immediately he said, “Oh, oh, I’m going to be on display to the world.”  That’s right, babe, you should be getting use to this by now.

This is what he used to put on the windows….Window Insulator Kit.  Since our front, front bedroom and office windows were as old as the house, he needed to put these insulators on to keep the cold draft from coming in.  It is just a thin plastic film stick to the sides of the windows, and he uses the hair dryer to get the wrinkles out from the film.

Done for the week, month!

Comments Off

I’m done for the week.  No work till December 11th.  Yeehah!!!!  I was dying to get out of work this afternoon.  As soon as the clock hit 2 pm, I wanted to leave, but I couldn’t, I was working on running the applicant flow reports for next year’s affirmative action plans.  Of course, when you are in a hurry, the damn computer acts up, throwing tantrums, telling me that I cannot leave yet.

I had all my work done, actually as much as I can.  The rest, I left an email for my boss telling her what I had done to ease hers and Ms. E’s lives easier when I’m gone.  DB said I’m just kissing ass, too dedicated to my job.  I just wanted to leave for vacation with good backups who can get my work finished for this quarter.

As soon as I stepped out of the building into the gusting wind, walking to my car, I could feel the vacation adrenalin.  I’m so pumped right now.  Tomorrow is appointment and cleaning day.  I have to get my flu shot in the morning and my 6 months dental check-up.  Then all the last minute shopping.

Three+ more days…….

Stupid rodents under the sink!

Comments Off

I was cleaning the house this afternoon after I got home from work.  I started mopping the kitchen floor and thought I should clean cabinet under the sink.  I pulled the trash can out and some of the bottle of cleaners.  When I moved the giant container of Dawn (dish liquid) to the right, low and behold, the stupid mouse was there staring up at me.  This guy was brave, it just stared at me during all these commotions I was making.  These rodents are smart now, they know the sticky pads can kill them, they avoid that particular spot.

Good thing I not really afraid of these buggers, but I still called for SOS.  DB came right away since I said there was a “rat” under the sink.  I told him we need a better humane mouse traps to trap these rodents.  DB said the glue boards do work very well.  He caught a few in the laundry room and in the garage.   They are non-poisonous and are safe to use around the dogs.

Doyourownpestcontrol.com has some good mouse trap for our use.  Initially I thought of getting the Mini Repeater-Humane Mouse Trap which works like a cat.  They are more humane because once the mice are caught, we can release them.  The thought of having them killed is beyond me, but DB still thinks that the glue boards are the best as the mice will rot to death stuck to the glue.  Whatever we are getting, I hope I do not have to see it dead.

Need new mailbox

Comments Off

We live in a neighborhood that was established in the early 1960s or early.  The even numbered houses’ mailboxes are across the street, standing next to the other mailboxs of the neighbors’ across.  I can see these mailboxes are quite old.  There are some that are newer, and some are brand new.  Our mailbox is very old and it looks miserable – it looks fragile, about ready to fall apart at any time.  But it is still standing solid to the ground.

I saw some very nice Gaines Mailboxes on mailboxixchange.com website.  I asked DB if he wants to get a new mailbox.  He is still pondering about it and it has been a while since I ask him.  I do not want to get one and he is not up to replacing it.   I like the Original Keystone Mailbox which is so decently priced.  There are many of them on the website that I like.  The other one I like is the bronze Signature Keystone Series Mailboxes because the letterings are raised and not many mailboxes has such decorative letterings.

I have seen some mailboxes that are on pedestals.  Gaines pedestal mailbox might work for us, too.  Jay, our next door neighbor, has one and it looks really nice.  It does add charm to the home.  Gaines mailboxes are reasonably priced, and they are made of aluminum that are rust-free, the paint has a type of UV ray proctective to give the mailboxes a longer lasting shine.  If you prefer to have a lockable mailbox, you have that option, too.
