5th day in Ipoh

Comments Off

Again, we are at IMAX checking our emails, unemployment stuff, and of course, my blog on paid posts.  I am still working on some paid posts that keeps popping up in my Gmail.  Gotta make hay when the sun still shines.

We have been eating since day 1 and still going.  So by the time I meet my sis on the 30th, I will be a barrell, an oil drum.  DB caught a cold, coughing like mad.  Took some thick cough syrup from my mom’s refrigerator.  I really salute him.  He is such a sport having to eat stuff that he has not eaten before.  I guess it must be my parents’ cooking.  The way I cook like the dried shrimp.  My parents said I should fry them first instead of just dumping them in the pot.  Learned quite a few tips from them!!!  That’s what I want anyways.

I  talked to some of my friends in Ipoh – Steph, Michael, Kiran and our old childhood friend, Rachel’s, mom.  Talked to her for abit and also my aunt and uncle in Taiping.  I am not sure if DB and I are making a trip to Penang.  We are thinking about it.  If we do, we might stop over at my aunt’s.  It’s been such a long time since I been there.

So, what I have eaten since we got here??  Kerabu beehoon, nasi lemak, fried keow teow, dim sum, chee cheong fun (Canning Garden), nyonya kuih (nyonya style cakes), lots of coffee, dad’s beehoon in soup, kaya kok (kaya puff), kai chai paeng (little chicken biscuits – direct translation), and a lot more.  We went to 1919 restaurant too.  Great food there.

Oh, I finally bought a camera.  A Sony Cybershot.  Steph and Patrick (her hubby) took us to Jaya Jusco, looked around and finally decided to buy a Sony.  Heard that this Canon Powershot series has big probs with their LCD panel.  We wanted to get it fix in Ipoh, but all we spoke to at the stores said it will take a few months as they need to get it fix back at Canon’s.  Darn.  Well, I bought my dream camera, a Sony and I’m damn happy with it.  It’s compact and it cool.  So, no complains at all.  Db is happy coz I’m happy and he likes that camera, too.

Can’t believe how many snatched thieves’ stories I have heard since I reached Ipoh.  It’s frigging crazy.  We can’t walk around the town, or I should say city now, freely like we used to.  Same as my parents’ home, we need to put all valuable stuff in my dad’s safe or bring them along with us.   Where my parents live, it’s notorious for burglaries.  No where is save anymore in Malaysia.

I will be meeting Kiran tonight, can’t wait and catch up with her.  Tomorrow will be with Steph, my best buddy since secondary school days and she is totally the best!!!  In the evening dinner with her and Patrick, and I told my mom to invite RAchel’s mom and dad along for dinner at Mar Poh.  Then after dinner, I will meet Michael.  Weekend’s plans are still up in the air.

Alrightie, that’s all for now…..I can’t upload pictures to this blog yet.  Hopefully to be able to download them to my photo gallery.

Till then, TTFN.

Gift basket for Max

Comments Off

Anne’s Weimaraner, Max is turning 2 years old next week.   Max is a true blessing to Anne’s household – he is a companion to her daughter and a hunting partner.  Anne asked me last month if I can make if for a little get together next week and to celebrate Max’s birthday.  I had to decline her.  DB and I surfed the web and found gift baskets for pets at BloomingCookies.com.  This the first time I have heard of this sort of service.  It is very neat.  These pet gift baskets comes in a price range of $45.00 up to $130.00.  Each basket is uniquely wrapped up with cookies and or brownies.  There is also a basket that comes with doggie shampoo, conditioner, and all the treats to pamper our pooches.

In addition, if you want to give a gift basket to  send your sympathies, there is a basket just for that.  It comes with a Rainbow Bridge poem on a keepsake box, a candle and a picture frame, personalized with fido’s name.  Of course, it will also comes with some cookies and a the gift card is free.  These baskets can be setup for your felines, too.

My thoughts on these online pet gift baskets is simply awesome.  It is a wonderful idea for me, who at times runs out of ideas what to get for friends’ pets, or even for my own boys.  I know I can get one each for my boys, Cooper and Ranger as their Christmas presents or birthdays.

A Hellish experience in KL

Comments Off

Db and I are now in IMAX internet cafe checking our mails and I have to write posts for one advertisers.  Money is money, a little  still adds up.

Our plane ride fom SIN to KUL was so smooth that we didn’t want it to stop!  SIA really ROCKS!  Too bad the flight was only 55 minutes – right after the steward/stewardess served us coffee/water, they came around immediately to collect them as the plane was starting to descend.

We arrived KLIA at 7:55 a.m. and as soon as we walked out of the jetway, a bunch of folks that looked like ants appeared from the trains.  It was a mad rush and we were rushing to get to immigration too.  The signage in that airport really stinks.  Really pathetic.  I had to ask at the information booth where to get to immigration.  Told we had to take the train.  We walked to the train and joined an entire troop of men which I think were from Bangladesh.  It was a “wonderful” short ride to wherever it took us.  The BO was just FABULOUS!!!

Once we got to that terminal, I think, it was another mad rush.  I said adious to DB: Nice meeting you!  The lanes for Malaysian passports were very empty.  I walked right to an empty lane and was done in 5 seconds and went to pick up my bags.  I was standing waiting for my/our bags for 25 minutes.  We really thought the bags did not make it to KL.  Eventually they came and we went our separate ways again.  Customs didn’t bother to look at me and DB.

Once we got out customs, we looked for the bus station.  Right away I had to use my Malay.  It was so rusty, I could hardly speak it.  Got the directions to the bus station and on our way looking for the elevators, there was a guy asking if we wanted a taxi.  We said no.  We found the KLIA/Ipoh bus counter hoping to catch the 9:30 a.m. bus to Ipoh, however, no one was in there and there was a Malay guy yelling across telling  us there are no more busses to Ipoh at that time.  Were we bummed out.  The next bus will be at 1:30 p.m. and I didn’t want to wait in that stinky airport.  So we both took his advise and took  his bus to Duta and where ever the hell Duta was, I trust that bastard.  That bus ride was ok but just damn, damn long.  I didn’t know KLIA moved to the boondocks.   When we got to Duta, the bus driver just dropped us and our luggages off at the curb.  I didn’t see any bus stations or taxis.

With 4 luggages, backpacks, and starving, I told DB to stand right in the hot sun (there were no shade at all), I walked in to look for busses, but I changed my mind and looked for taxis.  I saw an older  Malay guy for taxis.  He was so helpful and found us a taxi for our 4 big luggages.   He actually had to make a few phone calls to get one that was willing to take us.  That taxi came and the ride to Ipoh began.   When we passed Tanjung Malim, I called my dad using the taxi driver’s cell.  I asked my dad which exit to use – Ipoh Sg Siput or Ipoh Utara (North).  Dad said North.

After we paid toll, and I saw that exit to Ipoh Sg. Siput and then Ipoh Utara, the driver went ahead and took that exit.  As soon as we got to the exit, I knew we took the wrong exit.  That road was so new to me but some things looked familiar but could not place were it is or the name of the damn road.  It took us a whole 30 minutes or more to get to my parents’ home.  WHen the driver drove to the city, to streets I have not seen before, flyovers (overpasses), I was so lost.  My dad finally called the driver’s cell and told him I was near the Kow Wong Yeh temple.  He said I should wait at the MGS school and he will come meet us.  What’s worse DB said he needed to pee super bad and we have to wait for my dad.  I told him he has no choice but to wait in the cab.  I was fuming, just FUMING.  I was thinking the beginning of the trip to where we were, the entire journey to Ipoh from MSP was a disaster!

If my dad had not have come rescue us, we will be roaming around Ipoh town, or I should say city forever.  Ipoh has changed so much, I hardly recognized some of the streets.

Ok, I better get going.  We have been here for 2 hours now.

TTFN….

Baby shower invitations

Comments Off

SD asked me about her baby shower, pretty much where she wants it held.  I told her she can hold it in our house.  DB and I do not mind at all.  She wants to get the invitations ready by March or April the latest.  I can see she is very excited about this pregnancy.  DB and I are hoping the baby will be a boy, but BF wants a girl.  Whatever the baby’s sex is it is fine as long as he or she is healthy.

Kitchen lights

Comments Off

DB and SD do have  a lot in common.  They both talked about what we should do to the kitchen – blow up the closet wall, put up cabinets, counters, and blow up the kitchen for more room.  They also talked about the white lights are not their favorite in a kitchen.  So I asked them what will be better for them, SD said different light fixtures for our kitchen will work good for now because of the decor.   SD has great sense of interior designing, DB asks her for her opinion each time we need to add something to our house.  Free consultation!

High School Musical Tickets

Comments Off

SD’s friend, Ashley, still has a sister in high school.  Her sister, Kelly, is performing in her high school play.  SD came over last week before we left and gave us Kelly’s High School Musical tickets.  I am not sure if DB is interested to attend as I know how much he likes musical except for West Side Story.  SD said she will join me if DB is saying nay to it.

Skin products

Comments Off

I was talking to my co-worker, Maxi about skin products when I was telling how smooth her skin is.  Her skin complexion is like porcelain, no scars, just smooth and clear.  She told me great skind care products like skinceuticals helps with her skin very  much and the daily regimen she follows alos helped her achieve the sparkling complexion.  I might have to check it out myself later.  I am not very sure how expensive the products are, but I think as long as it is worth it, I will go for it.

Car Covers

Comments Off

Back in the days when I was dating, my ex’s dad is one heck of a person who hates leaving his car outside when it rains.  If the car gets rained on, he would go out to the little porch with a piece of cloth to wipe dry the car.  I find it really pathetic.  There was once I wanted to tell him he better not drive the car when it rains.  He would be crying his eyes out to see his precious car drenched in rain.  I told my ex his dad should invest in car covers so his precious will be dry and is shining at all times.

We are in Changi now – Vacation has started!

Comments Off

We are now in Changi waiting for your next flight to KL which departs at 7:10 a.m.  The free internet is great, a little slow, but it’s working great.

We started off the morning of departing MSP on a horrible note.  DB had to run his errands at the last minute which made us 1.5 hours late checking in.  We were the last ones to board the plane.  Of course going through security was hell, too, since he had so much crap brought with him.

The flight from MSP to Narita (NRT) was a flight from hell.  The row next to us was a family of 4 – parents and two very young kids.  The younger kid was screaming his lungs off the moment in was in the plane.  The only time he shut up was when he was sucking the tit and then he starting screaming again.  The most peaceful moment was when he was sleeping for about a few hours before the arrival at NRT, then he started again.

They were at the same flight with us to SIN too.  Good thing they were at the back of the plane, so the screaming and crying was not too bad.  We slept the most during this segment.  The Airbus is still the best compared to NWA’s old crappy Boeing 747s.  They really suck.  We sure felt like we were in a cattle herd.

We are checking our emails, banking, pay bills, and me gotta blog first.  Oh, my camera crapped out on me when we boarded the plane in MSP.  I wanted to take a picture of DB and me, the cattle herd, and the cool high school kid (Kelsey Douglass-White) who sat next to me, the camera gave me a black screen of death.  It has power, new batteries, but can’t see anything out of it.  DAMN!!!!  We have to get it fix when we get to Ipoh.

Kinda pissed me off.  Oh well.

Next we are going to do now is to get coffee, walk around a little as our butts needed to be stretched out!  Then I will have to go to the fitness center and workout, then shower.  Db will do the same.

Till the next post…..

9.5 hours to go

Comments Off

It’s 12:30 a.m. and I’m still awake.  Just got done with a post and chatting with Simmie.  I’m dead tired but still wanna stay up and finish up my post.  Money is money.

BF came over and we walk through the house with him.  The boys are already acting up.  They know something is cooking but they are not sure.  They are very clingy – to the extreme.  I’m hoping with SD and BF staying at our house, they will be better.  I pray there will be no accidents.

I’m done packing.  Looks like I still can put more stuff in it.  Did some last minute shopping today.  Was up at 5;30 and cleaned the house from where I left off yesterday, yet I still have time to meet my friend for lunch Thursday afternoon at Genghis Khan Grill.  Great food and was cheap, too.  When we done, we went to Byerl’s for my last minute stuff.  I was so glad I found the preserves.  Shopping at Byerl’s beats the crap outta of Cubs.   Though they are more expensive, but so worth it.

DB still has to go out tomorrow to get coffee and to RadioShack to get a converter.  He wanted to go this afternoon, but instead had to go to Home Depot to get a toilet seat.  Ours broke and all these had to be on the last day.  He even confirmed our tickets, printed the boarding pass for me.

OK, guess I better brush my fangs and get some shut eye.  Till morning comes……still couple of assignments to complete.

Losing weight with surgery

Comments Off

There are a number of my co-workers have gone through a lap band surgery.   I know for sure they had to do it because of their health.  You see, they were overly heavy and was affecting their health.  One of them, Melinda, had high blood pressure and her doctor had to prescribe high blood pressure prescription for her.  She told me she tried numerous diets including the re-known Atkins Diet, but it actually made her pressure went up and cholesterol sky high.  She also tried South Beach Diet, but it did not work for her.

After all these unsuccessful diets and her health beginning to deteriorate, her doctor recommended laparoscopic surgery.  When she told me about what she was going for, I was glad to hear it.  I do not want to see her feeling so miserable and sickly all year round.   Before patients go for a weight loss surgery, they will have to have their BMI (Body Mass Index) and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) checked.  BMI is to gauge their total body fat and BMR is to see how much calories patients need to maintain their weight, and they are used to achieve weight loss.

The Toronto LaparoscopicBand Centre is a place to obtain obesity solutionsfor those are in dire need to live a better life.  Some people feel that they regained their ego and self-esteem after going through the obesity surgery.   Like my co-worker Melinda, she is definitely happier and she looks healthier.  She is able to keep up with her kids, and does not feel embarrassed while playing catch with them.

My middle-age boys

Comments Off

The boys are just like kids.  I guess both DB and I spoil them to death.  DB was telling his friends how the boys react when they needed something but not getting it.  For example, they want their rawhides after their breakfast, but we didn’t give it to them.  They will whine and use their snouts to nudge our elbows, telling us, “Hurry the heck up, give us those treats.”

At Shopwiki.com there are a ton of stores I can look up for all the things I want to get for the boys.  It is a shoppers search engine website for them to hunt for the products they want and which stores consumers can obtain them.

Since I need to get the boys’ beds since now both are sort of crippled!  They both have hip dysplasia and need orthopedic beds for better support for those hips of theirs.  I feel so bad for them having to sleep on the crappy beds I bought for them about 5 years ago.  They are worn out, thinned out and it’s practically unsleepable for their  sizes.  I looked up the beds for them and I found one nice orthopedic bed from Cabela’s.  However, DB said the price is a little too steep for him, and we found another one from idogbeds.com.

An additional item I am really looking for is a dog ramp for our truck hence these boys do not have to jump up and down the truck.  When their hips were in good condition, they could hopped right into the truck and off it with ease.   Currently they whine a little even before they get off the truck.  They know it will hurt them.  Smart, aren’t they?  Yeah, anything for the boys, I will do for them.

Char Siew

Comments Off

OK, Db cooked the first batch of char siew couple of weeks ago.   Between the both of us, we finished it on yesterday.  He told me to marinate the other tenderloin on Saturday.  So I did but he didn’t get to cook it on Sunday.  I baked it last evening in the oven, and broiled it for the last 10 minutes.  It is now Db’s favorite type of pork: great for sandwiches, snacking and cooking.  Looks like I need to hunt these marinates from the store when I’m back from vacation.

Man and his toys

Comments Off

I like the way how our TV in our bedroom is.  It is sitting on a entertainment center and in my opinion, it is just fine.  But, my dear hubby says he cannot see the TV when he gets to bed.  He has to shift the TV to the side a little which makes it looks quite untidy.  I told him whatever makes him happy, just do it.  Well, he thought of an idea couple of weeks ago.  He thought we should use a tv mount to mount the TV up on the wall!!!  I thought he was talking about the 27″ TV in the bedroom, but he was thinking about the TV in the exercise room which is only 19″.  He actually had bought the mount many years ago but did not use it.  I will see what he is up to these few days.

Looking for new golf clubs

Comments Off

Chris is an avid golf player.  He is the guy who lives across us (we have two families that live across us) and every other afternoon he will be hauling his clubs for a round of golfing with his buddies.  Chris was asking DB if he was interested in golf.  This was before we even moved in when he asked us this question.  DB told Chris he is not into golf anymore.  The reason Chris asked DB was because he wants to find someone to buy his Nike golf clubs which are 6 years old.  The entire set comes in a red stand bag, the putters, wedges, irons and whatever else.  Chris wants to get a new set and his golfing buddies were not interested in his old set.  I told him he should eBay it out.
