SD’s craze for designer sunnys

Comments Off

Sd has been wearing glasses since she was 19 years old.  She only wears it for reading and some times when she drives.  When she was over at house last week, we asked her what happened to her glasses, she said she got rid of them.  It seems like she does not need it anymore.  It actually gives her a  headache when she wears them.  She wears sunglasses now as per her doctor’s instructions.  Yeah, she never wears sunglasses before as it was a burden, according to her.  Now she is opting for designer sunglasses  from glassesetc.com.  This website has all the designer sunnys and regular glasses you want.  They are all genuine and they do not sell any fake goods.  Moreover, if you are not satisfy with your eyewear, the shipping fee for your returns are free.  What is cool about this company is it also accept prescription orders and are all done by well-qualified opticians.

12/07/2007: Rhys' 7th Birthday

Photobucket

My sister’s #3 and DB share the same birthday, December 7th.  We celebrated #3′s birthday in KL.  His mom bought him two little chocolate cupcakes looking and gave him a watch for his birthday.  As for DB, well, he was already back in MN recovering from a cold, again.  I called him and wished him.  Not much I could do, right?

A new website for Db’s gadgets

Comments Off

Our friend, David dropped by our house last night with his wife, Tip and two boys.  It has been a couple of years since we both saw them.  Dave is still at Seagate and is thinking of retiring early.  As usual with the two guys together they talked about the latest gadgets they have.  Dave bought an Apple iPhone  and is now looking for some cell phone accessories to go with it.  He mentioned about this website sfplanet.com that has all the accessories you need for your cell phone, MP3 players,  PDAs, GPS,and digital cameras.   This website got DB’s attention, because he is looking for more accessories for his Palm and cell phone.

Early Christmas present

Comments Off

Cooper barked for no reason and I yelled at him for doing that coz that bark scared the shit outta me.  He kept barking, and his barks got really loud and serious.  Looked out the window and saw a shadow by the front windows…..Oh, now I know why he barked.  He saw the UPS truck pulled up by our yard.

By the time I walked to the front door, both of them with me, the parcel was already at the front door.  Pulled it in trying to see who sent it and to whom.  Saw it was for me but no sender except for the manufacturer – HoneyBaked Ham, Co.

Opened up and DB came out to help me figure out who the gift was from.  I didn’t even occur to me he will send such a handsome gift – an eight-pound honey glazed ham and a 4 pound roasted turkey breast.  Then DB saw the message:  Thank you for a great year and all your support.  Happy Holidays. R***

The gift was from my boss’ boss.  I was telling DB he is not taking us out for a holiday luncheon since he is already out for the rest of the year.  The ham and turkey is enough for 5 meals!  So, thanks, Mr. Boss, for this wonderful chunk of meat, and Happy Holidays to you, too.

P/S:  Will post the picture up later.

BF’s vacation plan for next year

Comments Off

SD and BF came over last weekend and out of the blue they mentioned that they want to go on a vacation before the baby comes along.  DB said that is a smart idea – enjoy the freedom before hell breaks loose.   It is really nice to hear that from him to plan a trip for SD’s birthday in January.  TravelHERO.com is a site where one can make their hotels reservation in one go.  Their ideal destination is to check out San Francisco and with this website, reservations for hotel and getting a car rental will all be done at the same time.  Moreover, TravelHERO.com site has a an activities tab for one to pick the activities they desire at the chosen city, activities like the Alcatraz cruise, the Golden Gate Bridge tour, or take the city tour.  I think this vacation will be well-worth it for them parents-to-be.

Holiday luncheon over with

Comments Off

Whew….thank goodness this whole thing is over with.  How much noise there were.  Every one at each table sure has a lot to talk about.  I never chipped in in these sort of conversations.  I’m sort of a party pooper with my coworkers who I never like to hang out with.  Too bad, I’m that way, like it or not, I will only answer when I’m asked.  They even played a game call “White Elephant” gift game, which turned out to be an annual thing now.   How this game is played:  anyone who wants to participate in this game should bring in a gift-wrapped.  Two dices will be used; time will be allocated for tossing the dices by each player in a circle.  Each player tossed the dices for doubles.  If they do get doubles, they can pick any gift that are now laid out on the center of the table.  Some players might get two gifts depending on how many times they are successful with the doubles.  When the time comes to a stop, those who has no gift, they can go around the table to pick one from those who have two gifts.  When that is done, time to unwrapped the gifts and will be put on the table in front for the player.  Again, the dices will be tossed for about 2 minutes.  Those who gets doubles from the dices can “steal” other peoples gifts.  Those who didn’t get doubles, will just have to be satisfied with their gifts.   What is cool about this game is whoever brought in the gifts remain annoymous.  No one knows who brought in which gift.  Needless to say, I didn’t participate in this game because Pigs are not a very socialable bunch, and Pisceans are shy, too  I’m just waiting for 2:30 p.m. to leave and take the remaining satays home.

Tagging songs you like

Comments Off

I have been downloading music off the internet for the longest time, actually since I came to the United States.  I pay a little fee every month and I can download the music all I want.  Then this iPod thing came along.  I always wanted an iPod but, of course, I did not get one because it is so expensive.   However, DB bought me a different version of it which is definitely cheaper than the iPod version.  Listening to tall the songs on the radio and not getting the music I want really kind of stinks.

HDradio.com brings you a way for listeners to tag the songs with a minimal fee, they like while listening to the radio.  With iTunes Tagging it allows you to tag your favorite song with a high definition radio receiver.   By clicking on the Tag button it will save your song from the receiver to your iPod.  On top of that, the Polk i-Sonic ES2 has four speakers in the little system with wonderful acoustic sounds.  The speakers location surrounds the entire little box so one can enjoy the wonderful “stereo” effect.  BF will get a kick when I tell him about this little toy.

HR Department Luncheon

Comments Off

Yep, it’s the time of the year again.  Time to just open up your appetite and munch all the goodies.  The HR department’s luncheon is today which will start at 11:00 a.m. on the nuts.  I wanted to take the day off but since I’m taking this Friday off, I will be nice and brought in satays.  Wanted to bring in paper plates but that was taken by other person.  Oh well, I spend approx $16 bucks for that tray of satays, hopefully they will be eaten up, if not, I will bring them home for mine and DB’s stomachs!  Right now these party coordinators are busy prepping the place up.

Acne Treatment with Proactiv

Comments Off

I never had acne till I started my bad habit of smoking cigarettes.  And of course, once I started smoking, I was not eating well.  Zits were popping up all over my face constantly.  I do not have the once a month pimple anymore.  They popped out almost everyday and seems like they stayed there forever.  I did all the prevention I could like trying to eat the right balance diet, but still smoking, not to touch my face knowing my hands/fingers are laden with germs, and to control my stress by running.  But I did not control myself how much sun I was getting then.  Later, I saw a flyer on how proactiv can help with folks with acne and plus looking up a resource like acne.com helped me control my acne better. This site gives  you the insides and outs of what causes acnes, types of acnes, treatments, preventions and the myths like avoiding chocolates or oily foods if you are prone to acnes.

Back to School

Comments Off

Yeah, I told myself I will try to get my 2-year degree in as quickly as possible.  But after my recent vacation, I sure feel like a bum.  Working around the house on snail mode.  My luggages are still not put away with all the stuff in them all over the guest bed.  I’m a total BUM!!  However, after looking at my degree timeline, I didn’t flipped, but reality sunk in.  So, I registered for a class for spring 2008.  The class I registered for is the accelerated course of Physical Geology – study rocks!!!  I talked to my coworker who took the same class this fall which she said there is a lot of reading but not writing.  Yeehah!!  No writing, just use my brain buckets to memorize the rocks!

Looking for a new bag

Comments Off

I do have a few bags laying all over the house.  Yeah, that’s me, very disorganize kind of person.  Ask DB, when he needs to get into my bag for some thing, he always tells me it a pain to look for what he wants because there are too many things in my bag.  Most of bags has no compartments.  So, if I were to look for a bag with compartments to put my glasses, wallet, cellphone, pens, and other junk I have that would make life easier.  I can take a look at a Buxton Bag which is a sling bag with enough slots for keys, iPod, and even water bottles.  It is made of leather and has zippers on the exterior for quick access to little notes.

Memories of Ipoh

Comments Off

Having to go through the hellish travel to Ipoh was so worth it.  Going back to Ipoh for our vacatoin was a very memorable one for us.  Stef took us around Ipoh and on the day she took us for lunch in Chemor, on the way home, she took a turn to the former Seagate plant was located in the Kinta Free Trade Zone.  I can’t remember the name of the current occupant now, but it sure brought a lot of memories during our days in Seagate.  I left Seagate in January of 1997 and the plant was only 1.5 years old.  The trees that facilities planted in the parking lot are now full blown trees and gave shade to the cars parked on the lot.

Seeing the neighborhood I was living in for 26 years was enough to wonder what else is the city gonna do now.  A lot more I’m sure. The main road where my parents’ home is used to be very quiet.  There were cars but not as busy as what it is now.  DB and I took an evening walk and it was not easy trying to get across the road: motorbikes or I should call them scooters and cars zoomed by left and right and it seems eternity we were standing there.  We walked to Jalan Raja Kam, Jalan Selangor, Pahang, Penang, Johor, Kelantan, and Perak.  The amount of huge mansions dotted along these streets were unbelievable.  Did someone won a lottery or make it big in England and came home and built big bungalows??  DB was very surprised, too, to see these big bungalows.

The Methodist Church, too, had a lot of changes to it.  Must have a good congregation in that church.  Jalan Atkin had a few nice big ones.  There is even some sort of apartments built at the cross roads of Atkin and Tambun Road.  I didn’t take pictures of these areas coz I was in awe how much Ipoh has changed.  It ain’t a town anymore as I kept referring it as a town.  It’s a damn city now!

This round-about at the inter section of Tambun Road, Brewster Road, Gopeng Road, and Hugh Low, or better still across the Menteri Besar’s residence,  seems to stay the same except for the wonderfully kept garden surrounding it.  The last I saw there were hardly any surviving plants.  Must be all the rain that kept them alive!

These shophouse that lined Hugh Low Street (Jalan Iskandar Shah, I think) are in bad shape.  DB said they weren’t that bad of a shape back in 1996.  I agree.  There seems to be no one living in the upper part of these shops anymore.  What a waste.

The above picture was taken at the mall next to my former school, Main Convent.  These Kopitiams are all over the city.  I suppose the good old coffee shops are going to be extinct soon.

Foh San Restaurant, we had our dim sum fix on 11/21/2007.  That place is forever packed no matter how early you get there.  It so happens we were there during the major school holidays.  We managed to find a place to sit and boy did DB get a lot of stares!!!  Guess not many folks seen gwai lohs in a dim sum restaurants?????  I remember when I was still a kid, my dad would wake us up at 5:30 a.m. (there abouts) and asked if we want to go to Foh San for dim sum.  He says if we go early, the food will be fresher where we will not be eating other folks left overs.

Eastern Decorator, a company still standing.  This building is along Hugh Low Street.  My mom and aunt used to shop in this place for carpets, curtains, and don’t know what else.  Anything to do with home refurbishing, this shop will pratically has them all.  If I remember right, this shop used to be on Yang Kalsom Road.  It has been in this current location for many years now, even before I left Ipoh.

When I got to Ipoh, I felt like I’m a tourist, a visitor.  The town/city looked so congested with cars and my most hateful vehicle – the damn scooters.  The Tiger Lane and Tambun Road intersection is now decorated with overpasses/fly overs, and the same with the road heading to the Menteri Besar’s office to Kuala Kangsar Road.  There is also another area I think is around Gopeng Road and Tiger Lane.   Those overpasses really screwed me up!  The signboards are the not best in Malaysia.  They are plain crappy.  Those who do not know their way around Ipoh, will end up like me roaming around till I see a familiar landmark.

We both aim to get back to Ipoh in another two years.  Wonder what else will change.

Someone’s feeling good

Comments Off

When Nadine popped over on Saturday with her shopping bags filled with goodies, I was about to faint!  She said her hubby completed a big project and he feels like spending it.  She bought ebel watches for him and herself.  Wish I could get one for myself, too.  His watch is really impressive indeed being a sport watch.  It has chronographs that really stands out.  Her’s is almost the same but without the chronographs.

Jewelry shopping

Comments Off

Nadine’s 5th year wedding anniversary is coming up.  She called up last week while I was sick to the bones asking if I want to tag along with her to look for men’s jewelry.  I did not go, of course, but she did pop over on Saturday with what she bought for her hubby.  She bought a pair of cuff links that is just so beautiful.  It is gold with diamond studs in the center.  I was going to ask her how many carats, but I didn’t.  Trying to be tackful.
