Vacation: Meeting with my old buddy, Mike

Comments Off

When I was in Ipoh, I met up with only a few buddies of mine:  Stef, Samm, Kiran, Mike, and Rose.

Here is Mike with Db and I at Tanjung Tualang for our seafood feast.   Here is where you can read about this seafood restaurant.  I have known Mike since my Seagate, Ipoh days, all the way back to September/October 1995.  Back then Mike has a Japanese restaurant, Bushi, out in Ipoh Garden right across the Fatima Hospital.  Both he and I have gone through hell a lot – we know each other so well with our relationships with our ex-es; we cried on each others shoulders, yakked till the sun down and up, boozed and out eating along the hawker stalls and restaurants.  It is a strange friendship between him and I, we just clicked on our first meeting in Seagate – he delivered the take out boxes for my orders.   We are the best of friends, for me a guy as my best buddy is really rare and vice versa.  And now I’m so happy for him, he found this wonderful wife, Vickie, a very soft spoken girl.  I met her during our luncheon and also his mom, Gwendolyn (I think) for the very first time, after all these years, even when I was at his parents’ home, I I missed her.

Below is the picture of the happy family, Mike, Vicki and their daughter Yan-Yan (can’t remember her actual name, but all the adults called her Yan-Yan).

Updates about my other buddies will come when I’m bored at work again!!

New year and time for reviews

Comments Off

That’s the time of the year again.  All employees received an email last month to remind them of the deadline when we need to complete and submit our self-evaluation to our managers.  January 11 is the deadline.  Boss came over yesterday and told me to get my self eval out soon.  To be honest, I totally forgot about this self eval crap.  I had to go through a year’s worth of stuff and put them down if I achieved my objectives or not.  Actually I copied and pasted them.

One thing good about this performance system is it allows the employee to log their daily performance (if they want to) and whatever it’s on the log can be copied and pasted to the self-evaluation/mid-year check-in sections.  Also, I can review who are the stakeholders reviewing my performance, and mid-year review, too, from current to pass years.  Employees definitely cannot run away from this system.  It tracks the employee’s every single clicks, and if there is no action done within the specified timeframe, an email will be sent to the employee to act on the action.

What I’m looking forward is the increment, and that is even if there is any.  Who knows, I might think I achieved my objectives, but my boss said I didn’t.  No meeting goals, no increment.   I will have to wait till April 11 to sit down with my boss for the review.

Pictures are up

Comments Off

We hung some pictures up on Tuesday.  These pictures are the hardwork done by my sis, her cross-stitched all framed up when I was in Ipoh.  They have been sitting on the guest bed for almost a month, collecting dust.

These four pictures only costs RM$44 for the framing.  Man, if I were to take these to Michael’s or Joann’s, it will cost me a bomb, probably US$200 total.  My mom took me to this shop in Pasir Pinji (or is it Pasir Putih), that guy said he will charge RM$12 each.  My mom said, nope, RM$11/each.  So RM$11 it was for each picture after bargaining.  Wow, I still could not believed it for that price, and my mom still wants to negotiate the price down!  We put the above four pictures in the hallway facing the entryway.

The above three were also done by my sis, who else, certainly not me!  I tell you, the workmanship for all her crafts are just superb!!  Yeah, now she thinks I’m “bodeking” (kiss ass) her.  I’m not, it’s the truth.  The folks at Michael’s who framed the housewarming gift praised it and so did those other customers at the framing center.  Anyway, back to where I was going…..these three pictures, sorry, I’m not sure how much they costs.  My mom and sis took the three pieces of cross-stitched to the same shop for framing when I was on my way to KL, and brought the completed sets to KL before I left M’sia. We wanted to hang these three up in the living room, but the color of the mats are the same color as the living room.  It ended up on the wall outside our bedroom.

And here is the picture of the shop where all the cross-stitched work were framed:
