1st award for the year!

Comments Off

bloggerworld.jpg

Wow, the beginning of the year and I’m receiving an award from Pearly - The Bloggers of the World 2007-2008 award.  Thank you very much, Pearly.  It is very much appreciated and I’m  happy to receive it.  But then I have to admit that I’m one of those bloggers who are not that great in her writings.  I’m just one mediocre writer; I write just to update my sis of what’s going on here with me and now I’m in to paid posts, I’m writing to pay for my bills…extra play money.

I would like to share this award with Trinity who writes some very creative posts that makes readers come back to her “Room” every day.

Pearly, thank you for this wonderful award, and thanks for coming by!

I want a new sofa

Comments Off

I am still waiting for the day I can afford to get a set of living room furniture.  Right not we do have two coffee tables, a love seat and a cheap recliner.  I am looking at a different store for my sofa but DB wants a leather reclining set from a discount furniture store.  I am not really into leather anymore but he sort of insist that it is better than those microfiber or suede material.  Leather is better for us because the dog hair will not get caught in between the fibers of the material.  But whatever type furniture it will be, I am hoping it will be soon.

Office renovation again

Comments Off

The area where the Compensation folks are located is getting a face lift.  Our entire HR area is full of dust from all these moving of boxes, dry walls, and the sawing. Also these banging and drilling really is getting to be a pain for us folks.  The contractors who are responsible for installing the electrical parts left all the bulk cable boxes sitting around with the cable still hanging from the ceiling, walls and wall partitions.  If only these contractors can keep the area a little bit more clean, it is not so bad coming in to work.

Broadband Internet

Comments Off

DB and I have gone through  quite a few highspeed internet providers.  I still remember the ancient dial-up connection we had back in 1997, that was so slow.   It is slow and it disengage the phone from receiving any incoming calls, let alone call out.  It was only when we moved to our first  house we purchased a broadband isp provider, DSL internet to be exact.

SD is still working on which provider she and fiance should subscribe from.  Since they moved to this neck of the woods, they only have a few choices.  If they are living in the UK, they can certainly check out bt.com with their BT Total Broadband.  You can pick which BT Broadband package that is more suitable for your usage.  You have choices of 5GB, 8GB and unlimited downloads or if you want unlimited Wi-Fi usage.   And if DB were to pick one, he would choose BT broadband speed test which will provide extremely fast downloads which comes with the wireless home and phone hubs.  Laptops, PCs and your TV can be hooked up to the home hub.  That is one sweet deal.

PhotoHunt: Skinny

This week’s them is Skinny.  I don’t really have a lot pictures with skinny objects or bodies.  Well, I do, but I’m not going to put the pictures of skinny bodies up, since I don’t have the permission to put them up.  So, here are the pictures for this week’s hunt: my skinny feet, and hubby’s and my skinny right foot.  Yeah, the big comparison in color – white and yellow!

It’s Friday, no work till Monday!

Comments Off

Yeehah, Friday is here, even though I still have to work tonight at Satay 2-Go, it’s the weekend.  I always look forward to the weekends.  I’m busier but I’m doing things at my own pace.  Plus I’m home giving DB hell, if y’all know what I mean.  He has been going for his trading classes this whole week, and when he gets  home in the evening, we only see each other for a few hours, like 4 hours, then I’m off to bed, or I’m out to my evening job which then I won’t see him till 9 p.m.

Tonight I still have to work.  As I mentioned earlier, I am actually on call with Satay.  If they need me, I told the boss to call me.  Of course, I told I need heads up especially when school starts next week.  Speaking of starting school, I still have not read my text book yet.  My colleague gave me the syllabus (she took the same class in the previous semester with the same instructor) so I could prep myself before the start of class.  Crap, I only read part of Chapter 1, and I have not even look at the website (something Geology thing) which she said is an added bonus coz it helps with understanding what you are reading from the text book.  With this accelerated Geology class (8 weeks instead of the regular 16 weeks course) I will definitely be running out of time to work part time and do my paid posts!!  Mannnnn, I need the extra cash so bad.  Oh well, some things have to come first.

I guess I have to buckle up and get my shit together this weekend, like cleaning off my desk at home that still has all the papers and textbooks from my previous classes, CDs, and all sorts of junk from work, plus putting away the stuff I brought home with me from my vacation.  Yeah, they are still laying on the guest bed, accumulating dust!  I’m such a slacker.  Good thing I don’t have kids, they will probably be on their own, starved to death!

Back to my Excel reports now.  That’s all for now, folks! Gave a great weekend!     TTFN…..

Back at it again

Comments Off

My friend at work, the one that treats me like her daughter told herself she will quit going to the casinos come New Year’s.  That is  her New Year’s resolution.  When she told me that, I was really happy for her and her hubby.  At least she can save the overtime money her hubby has been making into their savings.   She has been going to the local casinos almost every other week since October and what prompted her to quit going was she wants to save up for their trip to Europe this year.  I told her if she keeps spending the extra cash in her savings  and at the rate she is going, there will be no Europe trip nor trips to Michigan to visit her grandbaby.

Now she is back at the casinos again.  I see her New Year’s resolution only lasted for a week!  I have no idea why she is not checking out websites to an online casino where she can play her favorite slot machines all online without having to drive all the way to Treasure Island which is a ways for her.  On x-casinos.com, she can review all the casinos that are available and most of the softwares are free for downloads., and it also lets you know if you will receive any free bonus on the first deposit.  It also has reviews on which casino sites have the most online games, the newest games, and if they have customer services available for enquiries or for any Q&A patrons might have..

Early night for me

Comments Off

It’s not even 9 p.m. and I’m calling it a night.  Wrote a few paid posts as they were due and I’m already feeling I need toothpicks to keep my eyes open.  I have to blame it on DB!!!

Why does he have to arouse me last night while I was in deep slumber for, you know what already……sex???  12:45 a.m. I was sleeping so soundly and next thing I know I was wide awake groping this and that! :D

I’m so dead tired right now, I need my sleep.

Helpless

Comments Off

When DB was in the hospital for alcohol poisoning, I was waiting to speak to the social worker on his case.  I told myself I’ll be damn if she didn’t speak to me what they need to do with my husband.  All I wanted was for them to reserve a bed for him at a drug rehab, and the social worker has to arrange all these for him, and of course with the green light from the doctor.  On the day he discharged from the hospital, he was left no where to go.  Apparently, no rehabs wanted him because he was in a very bad condition where they need to work on his PT and OT.   When I heard that, I have never felt so helpless in my entire life.

SIL in rehab

Comments Off

Finally, DB’s sister is done with drug rehab.  She was arrested in April during Easter for harassing her family member and attempt to kill, who I am not sure.  One of the brother called the cops, and she was sent to the can right away.  I know she is an alcoholic and also a druggie.  I known about the latter because she told me and SD about it when she came to MN and live with DB and I.  Now that she is in rehabilitation, she is totally a changed person.   She is reading the bible every day and has gained some weight, too.  No wonder my MIL was so happy when she was chatting with DB last night.

Who will take care of you

Comments Off

I get this question all the time from my friends.  DB had asked me several times what would do when he passes away.  He wants to know if I prefer to stay on in the US or move back to Malaysia or Singapore.  When he asked me initially, it was a surprise to me, I suppose it was because he asked me shortly after we got married.  “Don’t tell me he he is gonna die on me.”  That came flying through my head.  He asked because he wants to make sure that I will be taken care off when he is gone to the land beyond.

I told him I would probably stay here in the US but time will tell if I would prefer to live in my adopted country or move back to my birth country.  I told him when I am old and he is long gone, I will live on my own provided that I am still healthy and capable of taking care of myself.  However, if worse comes to worse, if I am incapacitated, I will have to check myself in to a care home.   In the UK, there is a website call bettercaring.com for all your answers to long term care.  It also has a search bar for resident  home care or nursing homes in your town/city.  There is also a forum where you can get your answers to your questions, or share your thoughts with others.

The weekend

Comments Off

My weekend started off with warm weather.  The temps shot up to the upper 30s yesterday, actually 41F degrees.  Saturday’s temp was fairly warm in the morning.  I went for a walk with the boys.  It was theirs and my first morning walk since i returned from my vacation.  (Yep, I got lazy since I got home.)  DB went for his trading classes which runs from Saturday through Friday.  I was home alone with the boys.

I did my usual weekend things – groceries and running errands.  When I got home, I made a cake, a recipe from my sis’ blog – sour cream lemon cake.  Her’s looks just so perfect, however, mine looked super duper pathetic which does not worth the camera.  I kept the cake though.  It’s a waste to throw it away.  It tastes good, but the texture is not soft and I left it in the oven for too long, or I had the temp in the oven too high.  But whatever it is, the cake is half gone.  DB pretty much inhaled it.

Sunday came and I regretted sleeping in till 8:40 a.m.   Once I got up, I put a load of laundry, had my breakfast/lunch and when I was done eating and cleaning up, it was already 10.  Checked some emails, Facebook and time went by really quickly.  I wanted to brush the boys and bathe them, but ran out of time.  I was only able to brush them which they really like it.  All the old summer coat on them kept flying out from them.  They would sit there and enjoy the brushing.  Of course once I was done with them, it was play time.

And from play time with them to vacuuming the whole house, to an hour walk with the boys, then cooked dinners for the week and dinner for the night.  It’s just never ending.  When I was done, DB came home at 5:50 p.m. and it was time to eat.

Seems like I work harder during the weekend than during the weekdays.  When I was done watching Amazing Race, I was tired, but I made a mistake of surfing the web and deciding and reading on working part-time via online resources for extra money.  That totally stirred me up and when I got to bed, I could not sleep, probably took me a good 45 minutes to wind down.

Oh and then, Cooper is really having trouble getting up and laying down.  Poor boy, he’s only 7 years old (49 in human age), he’s already suffering from arthritis.  I might have to send him to the vet for an arthritis prescription for him.  His limping and pain could be from the weekend play with Ranger and rough-housing with me.  I will have to see how this week goes.

Back to the grind stone today with slippery road conditions – much of the snow melted during the weekend, roads were wet and the temperature dropped last night and water turned to ice.  I really have to work on the reports this week and the rest of the month.  The new year has begun, and affirmative action plans need to be written for all locations.  Can’t complain much coz it’s paying the bills for me and putting food in my mouth!!

Vacation: Meeting with my old buddy, Mike

Comments Off

When I was in Ipoh, I met up with only a few buddies of mine:  Stef, Samm, Kiran, Mike, and Rose.

Photobucket

Here is Mike with Db and I at Tanjung Tualang for our seafood feast.   Here is where you can read about this seafood restaurant.  I have known Mike since my Seagate, Ipoh days, all the way back to September/October 1995.  Back then Mike has a Japanese restaurant, Bushi, out in Ipoh Garden right across the Fatima Hospital.  Both he and I have gone through hell a lot – we know each other so well with our relationships with our ex-es; we cried on each others shoulders, yakked till the sun down and up, boozed and out eating along the hawker stalls and restaurants.  It is a strange friendship between him and I, we just clicked on our first meeting in Seagate – he delivered the take out boxes for my orders.   We are the best of friends, for me a guy as my best buddy is really rare and vice versa.  And now I’m so happy for him, he found this wonderful wife, Vickie, a very soft spoken girl.  I met her during our luncheon and also his mom, Gwendolyn (I think) for the very first time, after all these years, even when I was at his parents’ home, I I missed her.

Below is the picture of the happy family, Mike, Vicki and their daughter Yan-Yan (can’t remember her actual name, but all the adults called her Yan-Yan).

Updates about my other buddies will come when I’m bored at work again!!

New year and time for reviews

Comments Off

That’s the time of the year again.  All employees received an email last month to remind them of the deadline when we need to complete and submit our self-evaluation to our managers.  January 11 is the deadline.  Boss came over yesterday and told me to get my self eval out soon.  To be honest, I totally forgot about this self eval crap.  I had to go through a year’s worth of stuff and put them down if I achieved my objectives or not.  Actually I copied and pasted them.

One thing good about this performance system is it allows the employee to log their daily performance (if they want to) and whatever it’s on the log can be copied and pasted to the self-evaluation/mid-year check-in sections.  Also, I can review who are the stakeholders reviewing my performance, and mid-year review, too, from current to pass years.  Employees definitely cannot run away from this system.  It tracks the employee’s every single clicks, and if there is no action done within the specified timeframe, an email will be sent to the employee to act on the action.

What I’m looking forward is the increment, and that is even if there is any.  Who knows, I might think I achieved my objectives, but my boss said I didn’t.  No meeting goals, no increment.   I will have to wait till April 11 to sit down with my boss for the review.
