Will I ever get a Chihuahua dog in the future? I don’t think hubby will like that idea of a little dog. I really don’t mind Chihuahuas, but DB will absolutely go berserk if he sees one in his house or apartment or whatever future dwelling we will be residing in! He told me he will never get an ankle biter as a pet. So much for the idea of adopting a petite size puppy.

I have met and personally spent some time with a few Chihuahuas while I was at the dog park. I love bringing my boys to the dog park. That is the only place where they can really be “free”, literally. These Chihuahuas, or what I call them “Taco dog” from the Taco Bell commercial, are in fact very friendly. They bark at strangers a lot, and which dog wouldn’t, but once you lower yourself to pat them and talk to them, they are the friendliest little creatures I have seen, and they are quick. They can out run any one in the park.
One of the Chihuahua owner told me caring a Chihuahua puppy is nothing special; it is the same as any other puppy. The pup still needs a lot of attention and especially for this type of chihuahua dog breeds, they love attention and very loving towards their owners. From a young age, the puppy will show signs of wariness of strangers, therefore, the barking. They can also be easily aggravated particularly those that are very arrogant! Yes, I have seen one that has this high and mighty attitude, who barks and chase after every one who came near him. They are protective, that’s all to it.
Chihuahuas are essentially bred in Mexico where the climate is warm. They are in fact toy breeds according to the AKC. For those I have seen in the dog park, the owners do put on a little sweater over their Chihuahuas to keep them warm. There is hardly any fat on these dogs if you keep their weight under control. If you are use to exercises them outdoors, then daily walks are a must for them. They do need a lot of exercise even though they are so tiny, if not they turn rowdy and rambunctious. Moreover, these little fellas has a very clownish character, too. They can play a game with just a tennis or racquet ball and usually I see their owners will be laughing away at their Chihuahuas. It’s actually hillarious to see the dogs and owners having so much fun.
The dog can run and walk a lot but never allow them to jump off, for example a counter, high table, or even off your arm if you are carrying it. The tendency of broken or fractured bones is very common for Chihuahuas. I don’t see a lot of small children handling them, usually adults. Another thing about these Chihuahuas are they do have a longer life span than their larger breed counterparts, probably exceeding the normal dog life of 12 – 14 years.
