Tough doggie life

28 April 2008

This is Cooper, enjoying the cool 39 degrees temperature.  After dinner and their treats, that’s what he and Ranger will do, laze around the yard, eat grass, dirt and whatever they can find, and bark at the neighbors’ dogs.

This is what he is doing right now, sleeping and snoring away.  He had a tough day, you know.

List of what-to-bring

28 April 2008

I will be on my way to Vegas this Sunday, and yet I was still procrastinating on what I need to bring and so forth.  DB kept telling me to bring the luggage from the basement, air it out and sort out what clothes I want to bring with me.  He telling me so many times since last Thursday, I finally succumbed to get the luggage and the backpack I’m bringing along.  Now, I have to figure what the heck clothes I want to wear.  The temperature in Vegas at this time of the year is around 70’s and 80’s Farenhiet.  Not too bad as long as it’s not humid.

So far, I have packed:

  • Couple pairs of shorts/jeans/capri
  • Jammies (need them since I’m sharing room with 4 others)
  • A pair of dress pants
  • A nice dressy blouse to go with the pants
  • Shirts/long sleeves for the mornings (morning temps are around 40’s-50’s)
  • and more sleeveless
  • Sun block/shampoo

Since I have only 1 memory card that is only 1GB, I need to get another one.  DB said he will buy one for me, a 2GB will be enough, I hope.  I am bringing along my battery charger and reader.  Hopefully there is a business center in The Mirage where I can use the PC (of course for a fee, nothing is free in Vegas) to download my pictures if I run out of the 3GB cards.  Who know, right?

I was going to pack some instant coffee with me, but I was told by my boss that the hotels in Vegas do not provide coffee nor a electric kettle to boil water.  I will still bring some with me just in case there is a kettle somewhere in the room.

Next I need to bring is a hat, a good pair of walking shoes and most importantly plenty of dough!! Hahahaha, I wish I could do that, but whatever I have on this Friday’s payday, will be what I have for my trip.  What happened to the rebate check that Prez Bush says is going to stimulate the economy?  We were suppose to get the rebate check deposited to our account today, yeah sure, na-da.  Not there at all.

Every one whom I spoke to said it’s not cheap anymore in Vegas.  If you want coffee, you have to go to the vending machine or to the hotel’s restaurant, Starbucks, or for cheaper version, McDonalds.   Entrance to the Glitter Gluch is $15 for entrance fee, Liberace museum entrance fee is $75, if I remember right, gondola ride at the Venetian cost $50/person, breakfast buffet is about $17-19+ and dinner buffet is $22-24+.  We might try a few slot machines while we are there and if luck is with us, we might hit some thing! :) If not, lose all, I will come home and live like this:

Need more RAM

28 April 2008

DB has been working on his blue PC for ages now.  It konked out for no reason, he then installed Vista but some of the trading programs he is using are not compatible with Vista.  He then reinstalled XP and is working fine but it needs more ram to speed her up.  I told him he should invest in some bucks to get some RAM since there are at least 3 more slots for more RAM.  I’m hoping he will get it done when i’m on vacation so I won’t be hearing his grumps on “this POS is driving me up the wall!”

Home for sale

28 April 2008

Our neighbor, Pete, is getting ready his home for sale.  He and his room mate are requesting for a transfer to Michigan or somewhere where they will have a job with the company they are with.  I was asking him what else has he done to the house besides keeping the outside presentable and installing home theater lighting in his basement.  His kids moved in with him recently and they helped him redo the basement and turned the baby to a mini theater.  Not bad at all. But Db and I hope they will be able to find a buyer with the home market in the down turn.

Photohunt: Unique/funny signs

26 April 2008

photohunt-button.jpg

This week’s theme is Unique or funny signs.  Thought I better get some thing up since I missed last week’s “Thirteen” theme.  I didn’t hunt down a picture for that theme due to time constraints.  However, this week, I am able to dig the below picture.  This picture was taken at the entrance of Yellowstone National Park at the South entrance.

Predatory Offender in the neighborhood

25 April 2008

DB picked up the day’s mail after dinner.  I was busy with my Photohunt post which will be auto posted at 12 midnight.  So, DB said out loud to me, “Great, there is a Level III Predatory Offender in our neighborhood. The City’s PD (police department) sent out this bulletin.”  So showed me the bulletin, and I saw this big white guy of 6′, 211 lbs staring at me.  I took a picture of the bulletin.  I want to put the picture of the bulletin up on this post, but on second thoughts, no….who knows what would happen if I post it on my blog.  Probably might get myself in trouble.

I told DB “Great is right”.  This guy is living on routes where I go for my walks.  I don’t normally stick to one route, I like different scenery.  What to expect from this sexual predator?  He has been convicted of criminal sexual conduct meaning he has history of indecent exposure and sexual contact with juve females and has abducted his victim before.   He has served his sentence and is not wanted by the cops.  The bulletin says the purpose of the notification is not to increase fear in the community, but to inform only.  Hahaha, what makes the cops think that it would not increase our fear?  I will be doing a lot stuff to take precaution than I had before.  Do you think DB and I are the only ones who are more cautious of our surroundings now?  I know that guy is not a convict but knowing that he had a history, it makes me wary or I should say DB more paranoid about me going out for my walks.

And here I thought our neighborhood was safe, free of crime according to the city’s write up before we bought this house.  Just a week ago, there was a hit and run right by our backdoor.  The offenders were caught few days ago.  No where is safe anymore.

We received this bulletin because it is the state’s legislature to create a community notification to inform the citizens that offenders will be residing in the neighborhood and to create better awareness on our safety.  There will be a community meeting on Monday by the PD for any questions from the citizens.  *Sigh*

Happy Birthday, sis

Mae's b'da card which I made

Today is my sis‘ birthday.  A Taurus to the T.  You know, like a bull….. :D but a very compassionate person.  I made her a card, the one above, forgot to take a picture of the inside.  Actually I think it was not the best looking card that was why I didn’t take a picture of it.  But anyhoo, it’s the thought that counts.  So, there you go.  I remembered your birthday.  Happy birthday and hope you have a good one, too.  So, people, go greet my sister a:

“Happy Birthday.
Sang yat fei lok
Nin nin yau kam yatt
suei suei yau kam chew
Kong hei lei,kong hei lei
Chuk lei cheong mang pak suei.”

Me and my crazy ideas

24 April 2008

I told DB I will be definitely be doing a sky diving activity when I’m in Las Vegas next weekend.  He still thinks I should not but I’m adamant to do it.  Why should I have to miss such a great a opportunity to do something I have been wanting to do for the longest time.  Today DB said he hope I have a good term life insurance with me and should there be anything wrong with the jump, he will be well taken care off.  *Sigh, so paranoid.*

Allergy season

22 April 2008

The temp shot up to 76F yesterday.  I have been sneezing, and sneezing every day for the last 2+ weeks.  From the moment I get up, step out of the house into the car to where I am going, I will be sneezing.  I blame it on the spring pollenation in the air.  I’m not taking any antihistamines yet.  I’m gonna wait till I can’t tolerate this darn sneezing.  Every one in the office told me allergies can happen to a person at any time.  Beautiful.  Absolutely. Fantastic.

Speaking of allergies, Ranger’s allergies are getting worse day by day.  We called Dr. Mitchell and he prescribed Atopica for him.  I picked up the medication this afternoon and this medication is so, so expensive.  Because of his weight and his size, he need to take 100mg and 50mg capsules daily for 15 days.  The two packages costs me $198.88.  I really hope this new medication will work for him.  Of all the success stories I have read about this Atopica, it’s a good medication to control allergy in dogs.  The main side effect of this medication is gastrointestinal problems where your pooch will throw up initially during the first dose of meds.  So far, Ranger is doing great.  No throwing up.  He is outside now chilling out to the evening cool air.

The Frenchie

22 April 2008

Will I ever get a French Bull  dog in the future?  I don’t think hubby will like that idea of a bull dog.  I don’t mind French bull dogs, but DB will absolutely go berserk if he sees one in his house or apartment or whatever future dwelling we will be residing in!  He told me he will never get an ankle biter as a pet.   So much for the idea of adopting a petite size puppy.

french_bulldog_new.jpg

I have met and personally spent some time with a few French Bull dogs while I was at the dog park.  I love bringing my boys to the dog park.  That is the only place where they can really be “free”, literally.   These French Bull dogs are in fact very friendly.  They bark at strangers a lot, and which dog wouldn’t, but once you lower yourself to pat them and talk to them, they are the friendliest little creatures I have seen.

One of the French Bull dog owner told me caring a French Bull dog puppy is nothing special; it is the same as any other puppy.  The pup still needs a lot of attention and especially for this type of  dog breed, they love attention and very loving towards their owners.  French Bull dog are companion dogs.  They are definitely not watchdogs and, therefore, they do not bark a lot.  They will, however, snort quite a bit when they get excite.

French Bull dogs are in fact from the non-sporting breed according to the AKC.  For those I have seen in the dog park, the owners do put on a little sweater over their Frenchies to keep them warm when the weather is cold.  There is hardly any fat on these dogs if you keep their weight under control.  If you are use to exercises them outdoors, then daily walks are a must for them.  This breed does not need a lot of exercise so it makes it a great companion dog for the not so active person.  Moreover, these little fellas has a very clownish character who loves to play.

The dog can run and walk a lot but never allow them to jump off, for example a counter, high table, bed, or even off your arm if you are carrying it especially when young.    French Bull dogs are very sensitive to heat.  It is advisable not to over exercise the Frenchie in the dead of summer.  Moreover, this breed do not swim very well either.  With its flat nose, owners need to remember that these Frenchies will snore when sleeping.

Good deals

22 April 2008

Our Vegas trip is just two weeks to go.  I’m so glad we have our accommodations all figured out.  Leong was able to get us to The Mirage, too.  Initially we thought we need to look for other hotel deals in Las Vegas but, aha, Leong has the connections, he got a good deal for us.  Tammi and I will be sharing the room, it won’t be that bad of bill then.  I’m so pumped for this trip.  I hope my dream of sky diving will come true

Nothing to write about

21 April 2008

It’s been ages since I last wrote a post that is not paid.   Last weekend was a goner but it was so worth it.  It was a well spent Friday and Saturday at work at my PT job.  Simmie came down to the cities and put up a night at our place.  As usual she and I went for our dim sum fix at Jun Bo, ate till I could not eat anymore.  The funny thing happened was David, Corrine’s son said on Saturday he wants me to go dim sum-ing with him on Sunday.  He told me his mom will call me on Sunday and I will meet them for lunch.

Simmie and I just got to Jun Bo, Corrine called me and I told her I just got there.  She said she is too tired to go out after her accupuncture.  So I told her just tell him I ain’t going.  He called me later to let me know he is not coming and call to say Hi.  Sweet kid.  Twenty minutes later, both mother and son showed up.  He was so darn happy gotta eat dim sum and see me.  Corrine says he likes to play with me and I have been his card buddy for a while now and had to put up with his so call “beatings”, his soccer and reading to him.

Anyways, on Sunday I told Corrine Simmie and I will be joining her and her family plus Tammy and her hubby for dinner in Minneapolis.  I drove myself to Minneapolis to Cafe Levain on Chicago Avenue.  As usual, I got lost since I took a different turn and drove to Lord knows where.  Simmie called me and came to my rescue.  Well, she was already there at the restaurant waiting for me.  I was 30 blocks away from the restaurant.  No wonder I hate driving to Minneapolis.  When we finally got there, I was relieved but pissed of at myself with piss poor sense of direction.

Dinner was good.  The chef at the restaurant, Adam knows Corrine very well.  He goes to her restaurant every Monday.  He cooked us a special meal which was so darn good and the bill came out to be an awsome one too.  There were seven courses and for the 8 and minus 1 half way through the meal, the entire bill came to $50.00  Adam gave us a very special discount.

This morning I Googled up Simmie’s college so I can read up on the concert she will be performing this weekend and during her Euro trip.  I then told DB I want to go to St Cloud for the concert on Friday, he was not too keen about me driving to St Cloud on my own.  Then I asked him if he wanna come along, his reply: Not really but I guess I have to.  When I came home I told him I can follow a friend to St Cloud and return the same night.  He said I have already starting my weekend a repeat of last.  And he said it with sarcasm too.  Son of a bitch.  Whatever.  Looks like I might not be going to please the man.

Home improvements, maybe?

21 April 2008

Spring is here, DB removed the plastic coverings on the windows which he put up last fall.  He kept telling me he want to replace the windows in our house.  The plastic coverings helped a little but our gas bills were still super high last winter.  If we can’t replace the windows, I think I rather see the current sinks go and replace by stainless steel ones.  The ones we have now are porcelains.  They stain and needs to be polished all the time.  Who has the time to do that……
