Say yes to motivation

Comments Off

With all the nana bread we have been eating, Db and I totally need a quick weight loss program to melt the butter, eggs and sugar in our system!!  Yeppers, indulging in all these cakes every week is not helping us to lose the already piling pounds.  Nadine thinks we are looking good, but looks is just too deceiving.  Put your pants on and if it feels tight, you can’t button them pants/jeans, or worse still, split open your pants, you need to lose that glob of chicken fat.  Where is the motivation???

DB’s not so favorite breed

Comments Off

DB and I did give the thought of getting another puppy, but I shoved it off.  The two big boyz are more than enough for me to walk, bathe and split my attention-giving for them.  DB insisted that we should at least get a puppy within the smaller breed category, but I was persistent, No means NO.

american_pit_bull_terrier_new.jpg

Having another puppy right now is not the right time for us.  If I want another puppy I would check out other dog breeds besides Labrador Retrievers.  Labs are great dogs, but they are high maintenance dogs.  I love all kinds of breeds but for DB he said he will get any dogs too but not Pitbulls.  There is actually a pitbull in our neighborhood.  The dog’s name is Greta, a very affectionate and very playful dog.  Greta has very short hair which actually shines.  She is such a muscular dog, very strong but she has not assert any aggressiveness at all.

The owner of Greta, a brown colored pure bred said he bought Greta from a pup when she was 8 weeks old.  She started her obedience training very young and she needs very strict commands and the owner always has to be in control at all times.  Unlike other breeds like my labs that can be spoiled a little, Greta he said needs to know who is the alpha.  She is the most well behaved dog I have ever encountered.  She obeys all voice and hand commands so well.  She is now 5 years old, loves her walks and runs.  Owning this breed is not the same as owning the other kind of easy going breeds like beagles, labs or golden retrievers.  Pit bulls for owners who have good experience handling dogs.  They are not for easy going owners.

american_pit_bull_terrier1.jpg

Before picking out your Pit Bull puppies, the owner might need to find out from their city authorities if is allowable to have this particular breed in the city.  Greta has been a sweet puppy and a now an adult which all the neighbors fell in love with her.  She has this very lean looking body which some folks might think she is a killer dog.  But it is completely the opposite.

Caring for the pit bull puppy is the same as caring for all other puppies.  Patience and consistency are the keys to successful training them.  Initially they will at a lost when they set paws in your home, but once they get their surroundings checked, they will start looking towards you for everything from food, play/walk, bathroom, and attention.   You need to have a fence-yard for a pit bull.  Pit bull loves to work for its owner.  Greta was trained to fetch since she was young.  Her main thing in life now is to fetch anything her owner ask her to.   Once you give enough exercise and love for this breed, he/she will be the best companion dog ever and of course will stay out of trouble.

Clean up Rachael

Comments Off

Maxine and I were chatting on Yahoo last weekend updating on our deadless life.  She is thinking of moving to New York to get away from her cousin, Rachael.  Rachael is a hard core meth addict.  She was once busted with meth in her friend’s home in the quite famous Dakota County, the county I’m living in.  Rachael has been with her boyfriend for a few years, the POS who started her on meth.  Maxine is so adamant of telling Rachael’s social worker about her addiction again and maybe the social worker can kick Rachael’s butt into a drug rehab to clean her up.  She needs help really bad.

Bernese Mountain Dogs anyone?

Comments Off

DB and I did give the thought of getting another puppy, but I shoved it off.  The two big boyz are more than enough for me to walk, bathe and split my attention-giving for them. DB insisted that we should at least get a puppy, but I was persistent, No means NO.

bernese_mountain_new.jpg

Having another puppy right now is not the right time for us. If I want another puppy I would check out other dog breeds besides Labrador Retrievers which are great dogs.  I love all kinds of breeds and especially the one our neighbor, Margie has, a Bernese Mountain name Como. Como is such a loving dog, so affectionate, friendly and very playful. Como has medium black with tan hair and has some white on her paws, chest, and face.  She has a great disposition, happy and always wants to be with you.

A Bernese Mountain dog is a herding dog.  Como loves his rides on the tractor whenever she goes home to her parents’ farm.  Como will be herding the cows and horses, very playful with the other farm animals. She obeys all voice and hand commands so well. Bathing and drying her was so easy, no fuss at all.  At her age, 7 years old, she still behaves like a puppy – loves to play fetch, run and enjoys all her walks. Fetching tennis balls, running along the horses, pulling the kids’ wagon are her favorite forms of exercise and that is how Margie maintain her weight so he wouldn’t be overweight.

bernese_mountain_new1.jpg

Bernese Mountain dogs are wonderful watchdogs.  Margie’s parents’ love it when Como comes over.  She watches over every thing in the farm, all person who drove up the driveway and any strangers on the farm, she will be warning you ahead of time.  This breed is also good with kids.

Caring for the Bernese Mountain dog is the same as caring for all other puppies. Patience and consistency are the keys to successful training them. Initially they will at a lost when they set paws in your home, but once they get their surroundings checked, they will start looking towards you for everything from food, play/walk, bathroom, and attention. Bernese Mountain dogs loves to work for its owners.  Some owners train their berneses to work in the farm, as search and rescue dogs and some train them for obedience competition, or are trained as service/utility dogs.  Like and other large breed dogs, Bernese Mountain dogs do get bored if not exercised enough.  They know how to dig holes, a burrow in your yard if you are not careful of execising them enough.  These dogs need weekly brushing which is absolutely essential, trimming their nails and as with these breeds with floppy ears, their ears need to be cleaned frequently, too.

This breed needs to be thoroughly mixed in with the family and should not be left alone in the house or even chained up for a long period of time.  The dog might turn aggressive and the owner needs to be very assertive with this breed.  Never allow this breed to “win” its fun “games”.  The alpha should be the winner of all “games”.

The house is so quiet

Comments Off

Chase was with us since Monday and to be honest, I got used to having him around the house.  We have to watch him to make sure he doesn’t get eaten up!!  Chase loves to lick Ranger and Cooper’s face.  Each time he gets carried away with his licking DB and I will have to move him away from the big guys.  We think Ranger almost got him, we didn’t personally see it, but Chase was scurrying away from Ranger in the backyard.  I did see him licking and kept licking Ranger, but Ranger being the mellow one just moved his head left, right, down and up.  Maybe Ranger had enough of it and growled at him or something.  We don’t know, but that little fella was running away yelping for awhile and then he was back to his normal self.

Photobucket

*See the three scars on Chase’s snout?*

*Chase – waiting to go meet his friends next door*

*Chase and Coops.  Look at Chase’s legs, he is going to be a big boy*

SD and BF came to pick him up this evening.  It was so funny seeing Chase watching DB fold his kennel up.  (We put his kennel in our room – all 5 of us in the room.)  He wanted to get in to his kennel and followed DB to the front door with the kennel where DB left it there for SD to pick up.  I got Chase’s leash and collar to the entryway, too.  That cute little guy thought he was going some where.  Kept going back and forth from the dining room to the front door.  Man, he is so darn cute.

Photobucket

Our neighbor, Margie has a Golden Retriever (Shadow) and a Beagle mixed Collie (Rocky).  Chase loves running along the fence line with the two.  He is getting so big for a 3 month old.   Oh, we saw Chase starting to dig along the fence when the other two dogs are out there.  I told DB probably he is digging to get over the fence to play with the other dogs.

The day Chase got here he was quite skeptical of Cooper.  I threw the ball for him, he had to look at Cooper first, i suppose to make sure Cooper is not going for it.  I think he is getting there, he is learning.  Last evening, he started going for the squiggy ball that only Ranger plays with.  And today, he went for Coopers plastic frisbee.  Cooper let him have it, which was so cute to watch.   The frisbee was on the ground, Chase was standing next to it about to pick it up but Coops was about two feet away from the frisbee.  Chase looked at Cooper, Cooper looked at him and then at the frisbee and finally walked away.  Chase grabbed it and went galloping happily away, flinged it, pick it up and again and again he did it.

Spring is defenitely here.  The last drop of snow disappeared yesterday with temps up to 67F.  The above picture was taken on Sunday, the boys cooling off after their walk in the evening.  They were panting so much when they got home.  They actually asked to go out and that was what they did – laid on the snow.

Photobucket

This was last evening – no more snow and that means big time allergy season for Ranger.  he is already scratching and chewing his paws.  DB is taking him to the vet tomorrow.  Poor Ranger.

Ok, that’s it for tonight.  See why I have not been blogging, I have Mr Chase to play with every night.  I missed him.

Katie’s sweet vacation

Comments Off

Katie returned from her vacation with her friend to Branson, MO, the live music capital of the US.  I have heard so much about vacationing in Branson.  Katie told us she spent most of their time looking for some Branson real estate for her parents retirement home.  Nice way to spend ones retirement days.  Kate and her friend are gospel concert enthusiats, so they were going from one concert to the next which total up to 8 concerts.  Crazy, but they did visit the Payne Stewart Golf Club, a very pretigious golf course.   Katie’s parents will be thrilled if they were to live in Branson, there are so many golf courses out there surrounding real estates of condos.  Great place for avid golfers.

Big day for the company

Comments Off

Today is the official day of our company merging with another big company.  Woohoo, big, big day.  I am not going to mention it on my blog coz I do not want to get into trouble.  Once I got to my cube, I found a Parker pen still in the box and a plastic bag containing a new badge and technical and emergency information.  If only the Parker pen is a Rolex Datejust watch, won’t that be sweet!  Sure, I can dream, right?

Weekends are getting shorter and shorter

Comments Off

I didn’t even feel I had the weekend off.  It went by super duper fast.  Working half a day on Saturday definitely makes the weekend flew by in a hurry.  Like i said before, DB has been doing  a lot of stuff that makes my life a lot easier.  I think I’m getting spoiled by him.  He does the laundry, groceries, vacumn (actually we split this chore), feed the boys, and more that I don’t even know what.

I was going to make curry last night, but didn’t. DB was making quiche and by the time the boys and I got back from our walk, we all wanted to eat dinner.  Then I got hooked to the Star Wars movies on Spike channel.  It has been a million moons ago since I last saw Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.  SD came over with Chase and of course I went ga-ga over the pup.  That poor fella is kinda afraid of Cooper.  Cooper bit him again couple of weeks ago which left a bigger scar on his snout.   He is not even a year old, he already has 3 scars on him.   Sorry, Simmie, I didn’t call you back as I had promised.  I was going to work on my paid posts, that didn’t work out either.  I’m so behind with everything I wanna do.

Oh, and I was over at Corrine’s to get my pants altered and we can’t wait for our trip to Vegas.  I paid my airfare and will be spending a few hundred more for our activities in Sin City.  I’m hoping our tax refunds will be deposited to our account soon.  We have a pretty good return this tax year, way to go DB.

An update on DB, he is still applying for full time jobs via the web.  So far, no response, not a single one of all the applications he had submitted months ago and just recently.  Really sucks big time.  He said pretty soon he will be flipping burgers at Burger King.   With the unemployment rate going up in Minnesota, it is definitely not helping him at all, plus NWA is merging with Delta, so are there more jobs being laid off in the Eagan NWA hub?  I pray it won’t.

Welcome home, Nad

Comments Off

Nadine is back from Colorado.  Her mom came to visit her last month and they both went to Colorado to visit Nadine’s brother.  I have not seen her since the last week of March, Nadine definitely has got really fashionable.  She said her mom bought a bunch of vintage sunglasses for her and her sister-inlaw.  They are really cute but definitely not for me.  I think they will look too big for me and it will make me look like a bug!

My “new” Lappie

Comments Off

Ever since DB fixed his old Dell laptop I have pretty much taken over it since February.  He got it going with internet last year but then the lappie was kinda acting up like all of our other PCs.  He conveniently put the laptop on the dining table and just one fine evening after our  dinner I wanted to checked gmail emails, used the lappie to log on to Gmail and I have been using it ever since for all my blogging, surfing, you name it.  It is a little slow, but it’s closer to the TV!  DB even tear the lappie up and upgraded by adding more RAM and a bigger hard drive.  Sweet of him.

PhotoHunt: Twist(ed)

PhotoHunters

This week the  theme is Twist or Twisted.  I looked all over the house to get a decent picture of something twisted or at least in a form of twist.  DB said there is one standing in front of me which he meant himself.  Yeah, he has one great Twisted mind, alright, but I also want a picture that shows some thing that is truly in a twisted form. Looked high and low, finally DB said, “Here is something for your twisted theme.”  (He is a sport when it comes to blogging material).

PhotoHunt: Twist(ed)

The cables, cords that belonged to his three PCs, printers and phone in his office.  He wanted to tie them up neatly like what he did for my office, but he moved his office around so many times, he didn’t bother with keeping them neat anymore.   I have to say, only he knows which cord/cable belongs to which equipment.

The terrier toy breed

Having another puppy right now is not the right time for us.  If I want another puppy I would check out other dog breeds like Yorkshire Terriers.  Labs are great dogs, but they are high maintenance dogs.  I love all kinds of breeds and especially the one our friend, Terry has, a Yorkshire Terrier name Teddy.  Teddy is such a loving dog, so affectionate and very playful.  Probably she was still a little pup then when we last saw her.  (Terry and family have moved to Montana.)  Teddy has long hair and she is black with tinge of brown patch on her paws and belly.

I remember Terry’s cousin has a Yorkshire Terrier dog, too, named Sparks, a silvery colored bodied with brown hair on his head, a pure bred too.  He is the most well behaved dog I have ever encountered.  He obeys all voice and hand commands so well.  Bathing and drying him was so easy, and it could be because he was an older dog, he was around 8 years old then, he stood still for his bath and dry him, no fuss at all.  All I can say now is Sparky is a very loved dog.  At his age, he was still very playful – loves to play fetch and enjoyed all his walks.  Terry maintained his weight so he wouldn’t be overweight.  Yorkies should not be overweight.  When trained from a pup, Yorkies will enjoy their exercising time.  Terry tossed a tennis ball and Sparky would run for it for hours.  That was one of the ways he stayed so slim and maintained the muscles  that made him looked so fit and trim.  Overall, Yorkshire terriers do not need a lot of exercise.  They are in the toy group breed and they can be very aggressive within its own size.

yorkshire-terrier1.jpg

Terry told me training him was very easy, too.  Yorkshire Terriers and with any other puppy, when train from young they will be happy and so will the owners.  Sparky was trained to stay at a position, either sit or down, when he was only 8 weeks old.   Yorkshire Terriers are very smart.   Caring for Yorkshire Terriers are the same as caring for all other puppies.  Patience and consistency are the keys to successful training them.  Initially they will at a lost when they set paws in your home, but once they get their surroundings checked, they will start looking towards you for everything from food, play/walk, bathroom, and attention.  Terriers love to be with their owners and they do have the tendency to dig and barks a lot.  They are the breed that needs good grooming and constant companionship.

DB took Ranger in for his annual physical on Tuesday.  Yep, DB has now taken over the to-do things for the boys during the day especially appointments, cleaning their ears, and nails.  Anyway, DB told the vet, Dr. Mitchell that Ranger has been limping a lot since January and not much into his walks unless there’s a ton of snow out there.  Dr. Mitchell said he has arthritis and due to his age (9 years old), he needs to be walked every day.  He even told DB to “have Dawn continue his walks every day.”  He will loose muscles if we don’t exercise him.  It’s great getting old, isn’t it?

Ranger received all his shots due for the year – rabies, lyme disease, parvo, and bordatella.  Drew some blood for his annual wellness check that consists checking of his kidneys, liver, spleen, glucose, and a laundry lists of a lot of other stuff.  What Dr. Mitchell did was also prescribed a different glucosamine for Ranger.  It’s call Dasuquin, manufactured by Nutramax, the same manufacnuturer of Cosequin.  The doc said Cosequin is good but not enough for dogs who are already arthritic.  Plus, he prescribed some non-steroid pain killers for him, Deramaxx .

As for his allergies, I told DB to tell the doc I do not want Ranger to get back on his prednisone.  He has been off this steroid since early November.   What a difference in personalities.  He is much calmer, listens to commands, and he is not so much of a chow hound.  Dr Mitchell said he does not like it too, and he will have to look into other alternative medication/supplements for Ranger.  I just love this doc.  He and Dr. Melbo, they are the best vets ever, and every single doctor, technician and receptionist loves Ranger even though he knows where to jump up for his cookies when he get to the reception area.

Ranger’s blood results came back yesterday and all is good, no heartworm everything is negative.  Dr. Mitchell said he is one very healthy dog, there is no concern or whatsoever with his health except for his allergies and arthritis.  Even his weight is at the normal range for his size.  He is 80.4 lbs.  Just keep up with his daily walks, Dawn, don’t slack!!!

Next week will be Cooper’s turn, the most dominant/jealous dog I have ever seen.  This boy, touch wood, is one who has not much problem health wise except for occasional ear infections and early season allergies (fall espcecially).  This fella is also limping especially after his rounds of frisbees.  I’m not surprise if he has to go on the same glucosamine treatment as Ranger.

Labs are great dogs, and they are high maintenance dogs. I love all kinds of breeds and especially the one our neighbor, Marge has a Golden Retriever name Duke. Duke is such a loving dog, so affectionate, friendly and very playful. Duke has long golden hair and has some light yellow on her legs, paws, and belly.  He has a great disposition, happy and always wants to be with you.

My coworker, Tina has a Golden Retriever dog, also named Duke, a golden colored pure bred with shiny coat of hair.  Duke is now in doggie heaven, but I have to say he was the most well behaved dog I have ever encountered. He obeys all voice and hand commands so well. Bathing and drying him was so easy, and it could be because he was an older dog, he was around 8 years old then, he stood still for me to wash and dry him, no fuss at all. Tina told me training him was very easy, too. Golden Retreivers and with any other puppy, when train from young they will be happy and so will the owners. Golden Retriever puppies are very smart. When training a golden retriever puppy, Tina told me she used quite a bit of food to motivate Duke, but once he got it, he can make do without the food and she did very well too.

Caring for the Golden Retriever puppy is the same as caring for all other puppies. Patience and consistency are the keys to successful training them. Initially they will at a lost when they set paws in your home, but once they get their surroundings checked, they will start looking towards you for everything from food, play/walk, bathroom, and attention. Golden Retrievers are from the sporting breed, they are bred for hunting and many owners do train them for obedience competition, or are trained as service/utility dogs.  Like and other large breed dogs, Golden Retrievers do get bored if not exercised enough.  They know how to dig holes, a burrow in your yard if you are not careful of execising them enough. They can be very noisy when bored.  Good grooming is also essential that is brushing their coat, trimming their nails and as with these breeds with floppy ears, their ears need to be cleaned frequently.
