Are they male?

Comments Off

The humidity went away and of course the dewpoint dropped to the 50′s this evening.  I went for a walk with Ranger and Cooper.  There was a nice breeze, the sun was still quite hot to the skin.  Ranger as usual was holding up the walk but I still need to walk him, if not he wouldn’t do much business in the backyard of our house.

We walked out to the main road and farther down the sidewalk I saw this black dude walking towards our direction.  Ranger had to take a big business so I waited and this dude continued towards my direction.  However, when he saw me and the two boys walking towards him, he walked outside the sidewalk on to the shoulder of the road.  When we walked passed him he said:

He: You have big dogs.
Me: Yes, they are big (smiling and continued walking. He speaks with a heavy accent from Africa)
He: Yeah, they are big (looks like he was not comfortable with the boys)
He: Are they male? (By then I was a good 20 feet away from him)
Me: I’m sorry? Are they males you mean? Yes, they are males.
He: Are you married? (Pointing to his left hand and the ring finger)
Me: (WTF) Yeah, I am married. (And I pulled Ranger to walk away as fast as he could)

I kept turning back to see if that black dude was following me, but he didn’t.   I have never had a stranger while on a walk asked me this question.  When I got home, I pretended nothing happened on my walk, I didn’t tell DB.  If I had told him, he will tell me “No-More-Walks-By-Yourself”.  It’s better to keep things to myself sometimes.

Dream vacations

Comments Off

The boss is not in this week.  She has gone to Anaheim for a conference and just last month she was in Orlando for a family gathering.  I told DB it would be nice to look up some Orlando vacations when Ally is older.  He gave me the look like “are you kidding me”.  I know how much he detest going to these places.  I for sure do not mind going to Disneyland, Disneyworld, all these touristy places.  I have never been there and definitely I want to experience it at least once.  The same thing with visiting the big cities in the states – NYC, DC, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and the list goes on.  Sigh, hopefully I win the lottery with a million bucks I can go on visit these places/cities on my own.

The future?

Comments Off

I was chatting with Simmie online last week and our conversation popped out a question of what will I do if some thing happens to DB.  Honestly, I don’t know.  Most probably I will continue to stay in here.  DB told me he has enough term life insurance for me to live and pay all the debts, funeral and whatever that’s left to be paid.  I know I will sell the house and move to a smaller townhome with the boys or who knows, I might move out of the state.   I will cross that bridge when it comes knocking on my door.

Photohunt: Hanging

Comments Off

PhotoHunters

This week’s  theme is Hanging.  Here is a picture of what’s left of the basketball net hanging by itself on the hoop.  This in-ground steel basketball pole, hoop, backboard, and net are as old as the house.  It was installed when the first owners moved-in in 1966.  The net felled apart last year, must be from the weather and wear and tear through the 40+ years.

Happy weekend, folks!

Comments Off

Yeeehah, the weekend is here.  I really like Friday and especially on payday Fridays.  Payday Fridays means no boss, hah, no boss to hawk over me.  I do take advantage when the boss is not around.  The big boss is in but he never bothers me.

Anyhoo, today I went for my First Aid and CPR class.  This class was given free to all employees who wish to learn about First Aid and CPR.  Before I went for this class, I had to take an online class which was 4 hours on the said subject.  After going through the lessons, every participant needs to pass the pre-assessment test at least 80% or higher.  It gives the participants two chances to take the test.  If you didn’t get at least 80% on the first go, you will have the last chance.  I had to take it twice.  I went through my lessons last week and didn’t take the assessment test on Wednesday.  Of course fail lah!!  What I read, heard, saw all forgotten.  Had to go over the lessons again and took the test.  Passed.

The actual CPR class was good.  We used dummies and practice mouth to mouth with a mouth barrier and chest compressions.  The instructor also taught us what needs to be done if there is an actual situation, how to give CPR to an unresponsive and responsive victim, and a choking victim.  We learned the Heimlich maneuverto expel the object from the choking victim.  And of course, some ladies asked what should be done if it was a little kid, a baby.  The maneuvers are certainly differently.  I really hope I don’t have to use it.  It’s a good to know kinda thing and the same goes with CPR. Giving chest compressions (30 compressions for every 2 breaths) is not easy.  Boy, they are tiring.

When I got home, I was late first off, I started playing with the camera again since tomorrow is Photohunt day.  The pictures below were taken with my Canon Powershot using the appeture and shutter speed mode.  I am still learning how to take pictures with the two features.  It seems to take better pictures than in Auto mode.  What you say??  Have a great weekend folks!

Aloha Friday

Comments Off

It’s Aloha Friday again.  I was going through my office cabinet this afternoon, the cabinet where it was once shared by other departments in our HR area.  I know, it seems like Fridays are the days I will putz and waste my time doing things that are no brainer.  I found bags of promotional products from the marketing division of  our company.  I have no idea how they came into existance in my cabinet.  Ms E thinks when the marketing folks left the area a couple of years ago, they dumped their junk into this cabinet as if it was a dumpster.  I didn’t even bothered to ask it belongs to who and the dates on the items were around three years old.  Why take the trouble to track the owners.  It’s better to spend my extra time chatting on Yahoo.

Local Mr. Bodybuilder

Comments Off

Maxine’s brother, Cody, is pumping up for his first Mr. Bodybuilder competition this fall.  I saw him last month and he has definitely has added some meat in him and with all the weight lifting he was doing daily, it gave him a lot of results.  Maxine told me his trainer recommended some prohormones that are legal for body builders like Cody.  That is good to hear especially from all the news about some baseball players taking human growth hormones to enhance their performance.  Since this will be Cody’s rooky year, he will have to play by the rules.

Time to enroll

Comments Off

It is the time of the year, fall semester is starting around the corner, like the first week of August.  I still have not enroll for my classes and I know I should be doing it soon.  What am I waiting for, and the answer is I am getting too comfortable with my time at home and I do not want to sacrifice my walks and doing whatever I want with my free time.  Walking the boys is taking so much of my time these days, namely Ranger who is walking soooooooooooo S-L-O-W, it actually makes me yawn coz I was bored.  It takes an hour 20 minutes to walk our regular 40 minutes route.  Then I have to walk Skinny, aka Chase.  He is fast and I really like.

So, back to enrolling for this semester, I really have to do some thing about it.  I’m thinking of “Employment Law for Business” and “Business Math” which are both accelerated courses.  That means they are consolidated to 8 weeks instead of the regular semester of 16 weeks per course.  Yes, it will be very stressful and I will feel rush the whole time.  I will have to quit my weekend job at Satay2Go and probably no walks for the boys.  Sigh, I will have to sleep on this (accelerated courses) more, it’s already stressing me out just thinking about it.

Zits and more zits

Comments Off

I never thought I would have an acne face at my age.  I suppose it is payback time for having a nice, smooth and clear face when I was a teenager up until I was 26.  Then the acne started popping up in abundance, like weeds growing on the yard!!  I know when I was smoking it didn’t help with the acne control either.  I used to buy acne treatment cream for my face and body especially the back.  Since I have quit that bad habit, I still have zits all over my face.  I know it is not food that is causing the acnes.  It must be touching my face when my hands, fingers are dirty.

Photohunt: What is that

Comments Off

PhotoHunters

The  theme for this week is What is that and I found something that made me wondered initially.  First look, I thought it was a beanie baby.  When I picked it up, there are no beanies in it.  So what is that?

Photobucket

Photobucket

It’s a computer screen cleaner using the belly of the Zebra.

Next, what are the white balls amongst the little hole in the backyard?  Do you know what is that?

Photobucket

Those white looking balls are mothballs.  The vet told us putting mothballs in the patch where the dogs like to dig will stop them from further digging.  It worked for us.

Trying out cloth pads

Comments Off

This is not a paid post.  It is my first time using cloth pads and I would like to write it down for whoever is interested in tossing disposal pads and venture into cloth.

I have been using disposals for Lord knows when.  My first sanitary pads were Southalls, those pads that are maxi in size with a loop on each end of the pad.  No sticky backing on those pads, or better still, the ones with “wings”.  Pure cotton.  I either have to wear a garter kinda thing to hold the pad in place which I eventually got rid of that pain in the butt thing and wore underwear that were tighter to keep the pad in place.  My mom taught me to wrapped the used pad with newspaper, and when you are in school, especially while in Primary school, it really sucked coz not many of my classmates have their periods that young.  I had to sneaked the big wrapped up bulky pad into my pocket and walked fast to the school toilets.  God, I hated those days.

When the sticky backing ones came into existance which I don’t even remember when, woohoo, they were thin ,comfy, and came with “wings”, however, the drawbacks, in my opinion: the pads stink to high heaven when wet and it is due to the chemical used in the pads; when you sweat, it sticks to the skin like glue; the plastic material keeps me warm.  But I still used them coz they were convenient.

How I got into cloth pads?  I first took noticed of cloth pad some time early last year.  I never knew they existed at all.  I was surfing the web, probably Googling on something and the result came out cloth pads.  I browsed through the site and that was that.

Then I read Jam’s post where he wrote about cloth versus disposals.  He wrote the post to emphasize the better use of cloth as opposed to disposables.  Some commenter thinks cloth is disgusting coz you need to wash the pads after using them instead of tossing them in the trash.  After reading his post, I thought I should try a few and find out how it is and is it really a hassle to wash them: will the stain comes out and how will I wash them, and write my review about my experience.

I ordered my cloth pads from New Moon Pads.  This company is a small home business created by a stay at home mom out in British Columbia, Canada.  I got myself some – different sizes for different flows.  I was still a little skeptical if it would be too warm for me since they are made from fleece on the backing and flannel for the tops.  One thing great about these pads from Renee, the owner of this business, the pads do not need any additional layering or stuffing extra layers.  They are all-in one pad.   Plus, Renee picks the cutest cloths to make these pads.  They are so darn cute.

I received them just in time for my period.  Wow, I have to say they are very comfortable.  They stayed in place which I was very glad.  And best of all, they do not stink like the disposable ones.  During my heavy flow, I had the pad which has heavier absorbency; no soak through, very good absorbency.  How did I wash them?  I threw all of them in the washer with my other laundry.  My laundry is done with cold water so that works out well.  I didn’t have to pre-soak them.  Toss them in the washer with the clothes, add detergent and they came out clean, no stains at all.  I didn’t put in the dryer with my other clothes.  I air dried them and they still worked great.

When at work, I brought a clean one with me, put the used one in the bag.  I don’t immediately wash them after each use, just dumped them in the to-be washed laundry. Since I only bought a few, that’s why I only wash them when we do our regular laundry.

Will I continue to use these cloth pads?  The answer is Yes, I will.  Putting these cloth pads with pretty and cute prints on them takes the period cramps, bloatiness out of your mind.  It is slightly more expensive but in the long run it’s cheaper.  Moreover, the Canadian dollar is rising, Renee has special discounts on her products.  I will need to get more of them later from her, but right now I have to try to use up the disposable ones off slowly, but surely, unless I give them away.

Neighborhood sale

Comments Off

Our neighborhood had a mega garage sale couple of weeks ago.  Our neighbor did ask us if we have anything to put up for sale, yes, we do but I did not feel like going through our basement and cleaning up our garage for that.  The neighbor directly across us had a few strollers and car seats put out for the sale.  I thought of bringing out the Christmas decor we acquired from our former neighbor in Apple Valley, but then I need to dig through the basement which is now a storage place for our junk.  Maybe the next neighborhood garage sale, we will bring our stuff out to our next door guy to try to sell them on our behalf.

Goofing off

Comments Off

Ms E and I were cleaning our filing cabinets this afternoon.  We have kept all the affirmative action plans for the entire company since 1986.  She and I do find these kind of “mou liew” stuff to do when we are bored of what we are doing, and especially when our bosses are not in.  Yes, we tend to slack off.  But at least going through the cabinets to get rid of the old plans to make room for the trophies our department has acquired through the years for excellence service and COE of the year.  We do work hard for these awards but we still have time to goof off a little to destress ourselves.
