Photohunt: Hanging

PhotoHunters

This week’s  theme is Hanging.  Here is a picture of what’s left of the basketball net hanging by itself on the hoop.  This in-ground steel basketball pole, hoop, backboard, and net are as old as the house.  It was installed when the first owners moved-in in 1966.  The net felled apart last year, must be from the weather and wear and tear through the 40+ years.

Happy weekend, folks!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Yeeehah, the weekend is here.  I really like Friday and especially on payday Fridays.  Payday Fridays means no boss, hah, no boss to hawk over me.  I do take advantage when the boss is not around.  The big boss is in but he never bothers me.

Anyhoo, today I went for my First Aid and CPR class.  This class was given free to all employees who wish to learn about First Aid and CPR.  Before I went for this class, I had to take an online class which was 4 hours on the said subject.  After going through the lessons, every participant needs to pass the pre-assessment test at least 80% or higher.  It gives the participants two chances to take the test.  If you didn’t get at least 80% on the first go, you will have the last chance.  I had to take it twice.  I went through my lessons last week and didn’t take the assessment test on Wednesday.  Of course fail lah!!  What I read, heard, saw all forgotten.  Had to go over the lessons again and took the test.  Passed.

The actual CPR class was good.  We used dummies and practice mouth to mouth with a mouth barrier and chest compressions.  The instructor also taught us what needs to be done if there is an actual situation, how to give CPR to an unresponsive and responsive victim, and a choking victim.  We learned the Heimlich maneuverto expel the object from the choking victim.  And of course, some ladies asked what should be done if it was a little kid, a baby.  The maneuvers are certainly differently.  I really hope I don’t have to use it.  It’s a good to know kinda thing and the same goes with CPR. Giving chest compressions (30 compressions for every 2 breaths) is not easy.  Boy, they are tiring.

When I got home, I was late first off, I started playing with the camera again since tomorrow is Photohunt day.  The pictures below were taken with my Canon Powershot using the appeture and shutter speed mode.  I am still learning how to take pictures with the two features.  It seems to take better pictures than in Auto mode.  What you say??  Have a great weekend folks!

Aloha Friday

Friday, July 25th, 2008

It’s Aloha Friday again.  I was going through my office cabinet this afternoon, the cabinet where it was once shared by other departments in our HR area.  I know, it seems like Fridays are the days I will putz and waste my time doing things that are no brainer.  I found bags of promotional products from the marketing division of  our company.  I have no idea how they came into existance in my cabinet.  Ms E thinks when the marketing folks left the area a couple of years ago, they dumped their junk into this cabinet as if it was a dumpster.  I didn’t even bothered to ask it belongs to who and the dates on the items were around three years old.  Why take the trouble to track the owners.  It’s better to spend my extra time chatting on Yahoo.

Local Mr. Bodybuilder

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Maxine’s brother, Cody, is pumping up for his first Mr. Bodybuilder competition this fall.  I saw him last month and he has definitely has added some meat in him and with all the weight lifting he was doing daily, it gave him a lot of results.  Maxine told me his trainer recommended some prohormones that are legal for body builders like Cody.  That is good to hear especially from all the news about some baseball players taking human growth hormones to enhance their performance.  Since this will be Cody’s rooky year, he will have to play by the rules.

Time to enroll

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

It is the time of the year, fall semester is starting around the corner, like the first week of August.  I still have not enroll for my classes and I know I should be doing it soon.  What am I waiting for, and the answer is I am getting too comfortable with my time at home and I do not want to sacrifice my walks and doing whatever I want with my free time.  Walking the boys is taking so much of my time these days, namely Ranger who is walking soooooooooooo S-L-O-W, it actually makes me yawn coz I was bored.  It takes an hour 20 minutes to walk our regular 40 minutes route.  Then I have to walk Skinny, aka Chase.  He is fast and I really like.

So, back to enrolling for this semester, I really have to do some thing about it.  I’m thinking of “Employment Law for Business” and “Business Math” which are both accelerated courses.  That means they are consolidated to 8 weeks instead of the regular semester of 16 weeks per course.  Yes, it will be very stressful and I will feel rush the whole time.  I will have to quit my weekend job at Satay2Go and probably no walks for the boys.  Sigh, I will have to sleep on this (accelerated courses) more, it’s already stressing me out just thinking about it.
