Reversible bag

Comments Off

Here is the second reversible bag I sewn.  I completed it last night after the cut up pieces were sitting on the table for a week.

Photobucket

I saw this bag from Martha Stewart’s sit.  It looked really easy to make.  There is also a video on how to make the bag on the site too.  So I printed the instructions and the pattern.  Took the pattern to Kinko’s to blow it up to 200% and another 300%.  The above picture is from the 200% pattern.  I used regular cotton quilting fabric without any interfacing.  I regret not using any interfacing though.  The bag looks very “soft”

The below picture is from the 300% blown up pattern but the bag is not completed  yet.  The handles are not sewn.  They need to be top stitched.   I use canvas for the outter fabric.  As always, the bigger the piece is, it’s easier to sew.  The canvas material is stiffer, so I didn’t use any interfacing for this bag.

Photobucket

When I made the first one which I didn’t take a picture of coz it was not the exact pattern, and it was smaller than the second one I have sewn, it was a bitch to sew the “armholes”.  The “neckline” is ok.  The written instructions are not clear since I’m a visual sort of person.  I have to view the video a few times.  See how dungu I am with instructions.

Yep, these two bags were keeping me awake till midnight last night.  Actually I am making 2 of the red canvas bags since I bought a yard of the material.  Thank goodness for 40% discounts at Joann’s.

A hangover?

Comments Off

I woke up this morning at 5:10, woken up by Ranger dearest.  His body clock was telling him it’s time for his breakfast and I need to get up.  Yes, my dogs have this internal body clock when it’s time to eat their meals.

Ok, I woke up with a major headache.  DB already left for work.  I have the rest of this week off.  I thought the boys will give me some slack, you know, and let me sleep in a little. :D   After all I went to bed at midnight working on some reversible bags.  After I fed the boys, I wanted to go back to bed, but then I should just sit on the couch, watch a movie (The Other Boleyn Girl, by the way, it’s good.  I like it so much I watch twice in a row.) and hopefully the TV will watch me.  Nope, I didn’t fall asleep.  The movie was too good, but the headache and feeling of hangover were still there.

I felt like I had a 24-pack last night.  I have not touched alcohol since mid 2004.  What the hell gave me this dog-gone hangover crap that lasted till now?  At least the Ibuprofen is helping a little with the headache.  However the feeling of lightheaded is still there.  The tasteless taste buds and bottomless pit feeling are still in me.  I just had a dinner of pasta, chickie and cheese, hopefully to cut the awful ickiness.  Did the meal help?  Not at all.  Looks like I have to go to bed early tonight with hope it will cure my “hangover”.

Nadine and gossips

Comments Off

Nadine came over this morning and as usual we chatted up a storm. I didn’t feel like chatting this morning but she brought up the subject of her brother inlaw’s new machine, a Ferrari. His BIL made it good in his marriage. His wife inherited the Ferrari from her father. Needless to say, she has no darn interest in any fast cars at all. This machine even though in tip top condition, it still needs some part replacements. Nadine is wondering if he will be able to pay for those cut throat Ferrari parts.

A new spot for the TV?

Comments Off

I’m wondering if DB is going to move the TV in our bedroom to a different spot. He is complaining that when I lay on the bed and if he is not asleep yet, he cannot see the entire screen of the TV. This is because I’m in the way with my pillow on me blocking his view. I told him to get a different tv stand for our TV but I don’t know when he is going to do it. I know it’s easy to make a change – I just need to remove that pillow on my chest when I go to bed.  I can’t help it, don’t think I will remove it because it is like a security blanket for me.

When out this afternoon to meet up with Nicole for a Thai luncheon.  It has been a long time since we last met.   Man, we chat a lot, but that’s good.  It is much easier to chat in person than online.  For some reason when I type a conversation out, there are a lot of typos and I think faster than I type.  So obviously there are a lot of missing words here and there.   When we were done eating, we headed out to Target to get my shopping done.  I bought a toy for Ally, a Playskool toy, Busy Chase ‘N Crawl Duckies, something for her to go after kinda toy.  I wanted to get the Playskool Busy Bsics Busy Ball Choo Choo toy but afraid the balls are too small.  She might put them in ther mouth and swallow them.  We didn’t go anywhere else as it was about to get dark.  I took her hope and I headed home myself.  Thanks for the company, Nicole! I had a great time.

The weather today is not so bad compared to yesterday.   Yesterday’s weather was so balmy – damn humid.  It was mistying the whole day and temps shot up to 39F degrees.  What a heat wave.  It melted a lot of the snow.  I don’t know if I like to see the snow disappearing or see the melted snow turning to ice overnight.

Our street was like a skating rink and actually all the residential streets were not plowed by the city.  Talk about cheapos.  Pay those high taxes for what???  I was out walking the boys this morning on the ice.  I was able to walk them and when I feel like I am going to fall, I have the three as an anchor.  Yeah, them three together weigh more than I do.  But I feel bad for them for slippling and sliding all over the place.   It’s funny how they use their nails to get a firm grip to hold themselves up.  Tomorrow morning definitely needs the stabilicers. I bought them a few years ago and they are life savers when walking on icy surfaces.  Didn’t get it out today coz I could not find them!  They were buried amongst all the other junk in the closet!

The same question

Comments Off

DB had calls with his sisters and mom in Texas, I have to say every week. Each time their conversation will end with “when are you guys moving down here?”. Dang, I wish it is that easy to move. It would be easy if we have a foundation build up. Moving our things will be easy, though.  Pick a moving company out of so many moving companies out there and that is settle. I know DB really wants to move out of Minnesota.  It is a matter of when and if I want to go live in the tropical heat wave.

Nice to just do nothing

Comments Off

These past few days I’m enjoying my days off not doing anything. There is not much to watch on TV except reruns during this time of the year. The only show that I will watch in the morning is NCIS, seems to be a NCIS marathon thing every morning. Then later in the day, MASH can be heard almost the whole afternoon till the evening news comes on. One thing about watching these shows there are a ton of commercials in them. The ones that I am tired of listening to is the mesothelioma attorney commercials.

The Blockbuster staffs do recognize me a lot these days, too.  I was there on Wednesday, Friday and this morning.  Been watching movies that were already out in the theaters.  Remember, I’m a cheapskate? :)   So far we have watched Batman:The Dark Knight (so-so), Wanted (horrible), The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (good), Journey to the Center of the Earth (good- very entertaining), Lust Caution (so-so), The Eye (good), The Mongol the Rise of Genghis Khan (so-so), The Strangers (good), Happening (so-so), Alien vs. Predator The Requiem (good but disappointed towards the end), Nanking (good), and 88 Minutes (good).

I still have a few more rented and will get them in tomorrow and the whole of next week.  I have to next Sunday to do whatever I want.  Dang, I’m loving the do-whatever-whenever-I-want thing.

I am still waiting for DB to fix the shower faucet in the main bathroom. He said he need to get a new faucet for the shower and said it’s a no brainer. Well, it has been 6 months now I think and it’s still not fix yet. I saw some Kohler faucets on sale at the store, I’m wondering should I get one, bring it home and tell him to get it fix.  I know if I do, he will say I got the wrong one, bla bla bla bla.  Oh well, good thing we don’t use that shower especially in the winter.  It’s freezing in that shower stall.

The horrible cold bug

Comments Off

That’s right, the cold virus is flying around the office.  Every one seems to be sick.  Hacking, sniffles, sneezing and the complains of “It’s cold in here” are abundant in the office these past few weeks.  Knock on wood, I hope I won’t get this bug from them.   In fact, I had a sore throat 2 weeks ago and what help is this, Zicam.   Zicam gets rid of my cold before it gets bad.

Photobucket

I don’t really care for the RapidMelts, but the Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs works really well for me.  As soon as I feel the early symptoms of a cold – sore throat or cough, I will use the nasal swabs (gel swabs) twice a day.  The symptoms go away the next day.  I really swear by it.  DB had to buy the Rapid Melts coz the store ran out of the nasal swabs.  I do carry these swabs with me especially at work.  And this is not a  paid post either!

Days off again!

Comments Off

I am glad I have next week off. I will have a total of 12 days off including weekends. It would be nice if I can go somewhere, but I will make use of the free time to do my things. Just chill and clear the bookshelves that is cluttered with all sorts of crap and, of course, the dust balls are definitely make a nice cozy home on those shelves. I know I will be at the sewing machine and I cannot stop browsing at Joann’s website.  Can’t believe I am looking at fabrics.

Someday, I will go

Comments Off

The end of the year is approaching. Here I am thinking of where to go for vacation next year. Should DB and I go somewhere for Easter and if that ever happens, it would be great.  I always want to go to Branson Missouri. My colleague went there last year and she liked it.  I heard a lot of this hot vacation spot from my other coworkers and friends.  There are  numerous things to do and especially if you like entertainment, it is a place for you.

What my colleague liked best were the many shows available at Branson.  I think I would go for the Acrobats of China since I love watching acrobats.  And the next show I see on the list is Legend in Concert where all well-known performers will be performing live from the older pop stars in the 60′s to the 80′s.

In addition to the many shows in Branson, the Silver Dollar City is another great place for family to enjoy grandeur of the Ozark.  If you love rides, this theme parks has more than 30 rides for you.  And of course, there is always something for those whose favorite thing to do is shopping.  There are three outlet malls and abundant of stores for shopping enthusiats where some retail therapy will soothe their minds.  Without a doubt, since you are in the Ozark world, there are many stores boosting the Ozark artistry.

It snowed the whole day yesterday from morning through late evening.  I was out for a walk with the three boys, the snow was quite light and temps was 23 degrees, a frigging heat wave.  On my my out to my part time job, it started to snow heavier and the roads were a mess.  Can’t go fast either.  When I got to my driveway after work, I had to maneuver to get to the garage.  Front wheel drive sucks in snow.  There was at least 5 inches of snow on the driveway.  I didn’t shovel the snow either coz the temp dropped to 6 degrees.  Plus DB said he will get her done when he gets home from work.  He didn’t do it coz he got home at 9:45 p.m. and he was beat and the wind was gusty too.

This morning, DB went to work at 4:00 am and I was still sleeping.  Beat myself up for getting up late this morning (7 am).  Had to checked the pics in Facebook coz yesterday was the anniversary luncheon meet with the girls , from my school, Main Convent, graduatedin 1988.  Had enough filled of pics, then vacuumed.  It’s been a long while since I vacuumed.  Dang, my back hurts!  Anyways, that’s good, it’s a form of exercise for me.

I waited till the sun was high then I went out to do the outside chores coz the temp went up to 2 degrees.  The temp this morning when I got up was -12 degrees. Out to the driveway to shovel the driveway so I can get out and come back in after my grocery shopping.
Photobucket

The compacted snow from the tires is what I hate most.  I showeled all the way almost to the end of the driveway, the neighbor directly across the street got his snow blower, cleared the end of his driveway and then he came and did mine.  My intentions was just shovel my side of the driveway and leave the rest for DB to clear it when he gets home.  But the neighbor did the entire driveway for me.  Bless him.  I felt sheepish having him to clear the driveway for me, but DB says the neighbor might have felt bad himself seeing me shoveling the snow instead of using the snow blower.  We do have a snow blower, but I never know how to operate it coz it is so darn heavy.

And this was the patio. I have to clear the white crap coz if not, the boys will drag them into the house. Hate it!  That is Chase in the picture with stick.
Photobucket

And this is me after being in the cold for a couple of hours.  Ice were forming on my eyelashes, time to get inside.
Photobucket

The boys, without a care. Give them a stick, they can be out in the snow the entire day.

Office holiday parties

Comments Off

We just had a holiday party for our HR department on Wednesday which I purposely took the day off. My friend at work invited me to her office party this afternoon. It was for the library folks. I went there towards the end of the party. There were still so much food left. My friend told me she will have to go a strict diet like the Leptovox diet.  Like me, she puts on weight easily.  I am trying not to eat too much holiday treats that are sitting around in the area I’m at.  If I were to continue snacking on all the peanut brittle, chocolates, sugared cookiess and whatever else, my body shape will just look like a barrell.
