Where is the tree?

Comments Off

So many folks is asking me if I have put our Christmas tree up.  The answer is yes, I put the tree up with some holiday decor, too.

Photobucket

This is the only “tree” I can find.  It’s sitting on my office cabinet.  It is a gift from my coworker.  The card was from my sister date back to don’t know when – before the youngest arrived, and the Santa Claus lamp thingy was a door gift from last year’s department party.

Our Christmas tree at home iC sitting in the basement buried with layers and layers of junk.  I am still looking for the fiber optic christmas tree which I think is also somewhere amongst the boxes of whatever in the basement.

So, the above picture is my Christmas tree for this year till I find the fiber optic tree.  We are not putting up the big Christmas tree this year coz it is going to look very bare with no presents.  We have no intentions of getting any presents this year.

What a day at the mall

Comments Off

I went to the Mall of America yesterday with Nadine who thinks holiday shoppers should be a little more considerate. Even though it was a work day, the mall was still jam packed with holiday shoppers. Some of these shoppers are outwardly rude, so rude that they jump the line at the dressing room. I have not experience this sort of rudeness for the longest time. Darn, that really pisses me off. Anyways, Nadine too had some rude awakening while lurking at the jewelry stores. There was a pyshco guy came right behind her and knocked her on the back of her head with a shoe box and ran off. No doubt is just a shoe box, it still hurts. The store keepers from other retail franchises stepped out and tried to get this idiot. Tho he got away from us, but the mall security caught him.  Strangers stopped and helped us, asking if Nadine is hurt, does she need to go to the hospital.   We are so lucky, no one was hurt.  Nadine had a  shocked of her life, but after 30 minutes of calming our nerves down, we were back roaming the stores again.  I guess, nothing beats the thrill of retail therapy.

Travel plans

Comments Off

The holidays are around the corner and what with the bloody cold Minnesota, J, our neighbor, and his new wifey are heading out of the country on Monday. They are flying off to the Bahamas which is sort of their honeymoon, too. We had a chat with J yesterday updating us with of his work place which is one of the Big 3 auto makers, his travel plans and travel insurance they were advise to get especially when they have 2 little kids in the household.   I wonder when I can make my travel plans for a trip out of town or better still out of the country.

Feeling the Arctic tundra

Comments Off

Yesterday was the coldest day I can remember since I have been here.  It was -4F for the high and with windchills of -34F.  So it actually feels like -34F out.  DB and I were shoveling the driveway and the patio.  Had to get rid of the snow on the patio coz that is where the boys hang out the most when they are outside and we don’t want them dragging snow into the house.  On the driveway, we normally shovel the snow off since it is on a hilly side…just in case my car can’t go up the driveway because of ice.

This morning the temp is at this:

It’s trash pick up today.  I had to take the trash and recycle cans out to the end of the driveway.  See, this is usually DB’s job, but he has fallen ill big time with a temperature, chills and throwing up.  I think he got a chill from yesterday out in the cold and blustery winds.

The roads were fine till I reached Hwy 149 on Yankee Doodle Road.  Having driven on that road for 8 years I know where are the icy, slippery and snowed-packed-down roads.  Driving up the hill to reach Highway 149, I slowed down and as soon as I was on the top which goes down a slight degree, I saw a snowed-packed down, ice-covered right turn lane, the lane I have to take.  I was already going 35mph but I hit the brakes a little harder this time and thank goodness for ABS (Anti-lock Brake System).  My car fish tail a few times while the ABS was slowing the car down for me to 10mph and almost to a crawl.  Of course my heart my thumping a little.  Good thing it was still very early in the morning, 6:15 a.m, the traffic was quite light and the lights just turned green, too.  Phew…..I let a sigh of relieve.

There is always heart-thumping-hard experience every winter.  And I hope and pray I don’t have to experience this again.

Seriously thinking of Skype

Comments Off

I was chatting with Pearly this morning on Yahoo.  No, I didn’t re-install Yahoo Messenger in my pc at work.  I used the regular chat box on Yahoo.  Works good but the drawback is I cannot retrieve the archives.  Oh well, can’t have the best of both worlds, can I?

Anyway, we chatted about calling overseas and how expensive to buy minutes on the calling cards.  She mentioned instaling Skype on my PC.  I will have to talk my sis to install it on her PC and we can chat for free.  Each time my sis and I chat on the phone, it’s endless.  And calling land lines and cellphones are cheaper too.  I’m sure it will be cheaper than using my calling card.  Well, I did checked Skype, a call to a cellphone number to Malaysia is $0.067 per minute.  At least I can call my parents frequently instead of having them to call me.

Looking forward to a little shopping

Comments Off

Had a visit from Nadine today. She and I are going on a shopping spree next week, Wednesday. She is doing good with her home based business which is a real estate broker. Mike her hubby is still busy traveling for business as a programmer.  She and I are hoping to hop over to Joann’s next week, too, to pick up some fabric.  She is too working on some pouch slings for her sister who will be due in two months.  I made two for a friend and it is so easy to make.  I’m going to make another for her hubby.  Also, she and I are working on a reversible bag.  Hopefully it will work coz we have not done it before.  Our shopping trip will consist of Mall of America and Ikea.  Woohooo, I can’t wait.

Dry skin and eyes

Comments Off

So far this winter is taking a toil on my face, that is the skin around my eyes.   As it is there are lines and more lines from rubbing and pulling the sides of the eyes to get my contacts out. It’s so dry outside. Temps in the lower teens didn’t help at all. There is totally no moisture outside. Needless to say I have not taken the boys for their walks these past three days.  The skin around my eyes just itch and is hurting, too.  I know, I should be working out on the elliptical machine sitting downstairs collecting more and more dust, but I might some day.  For now, I am slathering tons of apricot oil around my eyes.  The skin is sort of peeling, little pieces of skin hanging around my eyes and worse when I rub my eyes.  The cons of winter – dry skin.

7 facts about me

Comments Off

I was tagged by Beachlover wanting to know 7 facts about me.  This tag is so long overdue.  I forgot about it till just now.

  1. I do not like parties, gatherings, socializing.  I have never been a sociable person.  If there are office gatherings, I will find an excuse or take the day off.  I do not know what to say to people I have not met or know about.
  2. I never thought I will have to cook after I was done with Sains Rumah Tangga (Home Science or what they now name it as Home Economics).  I am a lousy cook but I still cook almost daily.  Poor hubs has to endure my cooking of rice and noodles.
  3. I am still very tom boyish.  Nothing has changed since I was in school.  If I don’t have to use makeup, I will not slather it on at all.  If I do, it will just be foundation.  I hate lipsticks.
  4. But I am anal about fine lines and sun spots on my face!  Go figure…..
  5. I feel moody if I don’t take the boys for their walks especially in the winter.  I think because I myself want to get a good work out in the knee deep snow in the trails.
  6. I have to carry Carmex with me whenever I leave the house.
  7. I hate to clean and vacuum the house but I cannot stand dirty toilets and bathrooms.

Here are the rules for tagging:

1:Link to my blog (tagger) on your blog.
2:Give seven facts about yourself.
3:Tag another seven bloggers by leaving a comment on their blogs and letting them know they were tagged and listing them (and their blogs) on your blog.

The 7 people I’m going to tag?  Sorry la, Beachlover, I have no one to tag.

Signs of some relieve

Comments Off

DB had a few job interviews already since last Thursday and this morning there were one each with the staffing agency and the company that is hiring.  I am so happy and off course so is he.  DB said the interviews went very well and had no problems with the questions they asked.  All questions were related to when he was in the Air Force and when is the earliest he can start.

While we were prepping for our dinner of curry chicken mee (Hokkien mee), the house phone rang.  Usually we don’t look at the caller ID during dinner time.  But this time around he answered the call coz it was from the staffing agency.  The recruiter asked when is the earliest he can take a pee test.  Yeehaaa!!!!

So now he will go back to the staffing agency tomorrow morning to pick up the forms and go for the pee test.  He will have to pass three other background checks to get this job.  Apparently, this company works for the federal government, that is why all the checks he has to pass.

We are keeping our fingers crossed and I really have to thank the Lord for helping us through these hard times.

I went for a walk this afternoon with Ranger and I am very glad I do not smell the fallen, smashed up plums on the ground anymore. Along the street we live, there are a few Plum trees that the owners planted on his yard but they were closed to the road. The fallen plums were left on the ground where cars go by and SQUASH, the plums are no more plums but yucky stinky stale smell. I hated the smell but now, they are covered by snow.  Phew, just wait till spring, it will start all over again.

Fire drill in the cold

Comments Off

Our company had a fire drill this morning. The temperature was still 9F degrees, cloudy skies, and we had to go out of the buildings, stand in the open parking lot for 10 minutes. Yeah, there were quite a lot of effenheimers flying around. The funny thing was the security emergency light located every 50 yards in the building were out.  None of them flipped on.  That was great maintenance by facilities.  Anyways, this time around, the drill was an unexpected one.  Usually, the company will send out a notice via our intranet informing the employees of a fire drill.

Chrismassy mood

Comments Off

Pretty obvious what mood I’m in coz I changed my blog template to match my mood.

I was out running some errands yesterday morning at Target.  It was snowing when I left the house, light snow.  I was in the store for about 30 minutes and when I looked out from the store while checking out, the snow fall was heavier.  Seeing the Salvation Army red kettles with the bell ringers standing by the entrance of the store despite the cold and wind, it sure feels like a holiday season.

Shoppers were pushing carts filled with toys, clothes, ornaments, and some were just shopping for groceries.  And since the store has discount furniture during the holiday season, there were a ton of shoppers raiding the furniture aisles.  I got my stuff and out to my snow covered car.  At half an inch felled since I went in.

I was out with the boys for 3 hours after I got home.  DB thinks I’m nuts to be out in 9F degrees temperature with windchill of 0F.  It was windy, too.  Yes, it was cold but it was nice walking on a few inches of snow on the sidewalks and especially on the trails and school field.  As long as the boys have a good work out which eventually tire them out, I’m happy which means there will be 3 K.O.-ed boys in the evening/night, no bugging me.  The boys had a great time.  The cold didn’t seem to bother them.  There were ice around their snouts.  Chase drools when he plays hard, so there were little icicles hanging from his snout.

I think I have a little wind burn or frost bite on my cheeks.  I wasn’t using my face mask too much, rather bear the cold than getting all sweaty face and gives me runny nose.  I have not taken a picture of myself all wrapped up in my winter walking attire.  I should have DB to take a picture one day before I go on my walk and post it up here later.   The weather for the rest of the week is gonna be crappy.  Snow all week long and temperatures in the teens.  Yeehaa!

Birthday boys

Comments Off

Today last year I was in KL celebrating this little boy’s birthday, my nephew, my sister’s youngest boy.  It was also my honey’s birthday.  They are both Pearl Harbor babies.

12/07/2007: Rhys' 7th Birthday

Last year I didn’t celebrate DB’s birthday with him but today I did although we didn’t do anything special.  He said it’s just another day, a day older and another day crankier! :)   No, he is actually not, I just added that to spice things up.  The best gift he ever received was this special girl:

Photobucket

And look at her now…at 6 months old.  Isn’t she adorable??

Allyson Mae - 6 months

Yeah, Ally is the best gift he received this year, the precious little pumpkin.

What the…..

Comments Off

I received this about 10 minutes ago on my work email, and the rest of the recipients were employees from Yamaha.  I “X’ed” out the email addresses.  Upon first look at the email, it read foreign to me, but after a few minutes staring and trying to read it, I was able to read it, but do not understand some of the words.  Isn’t it funny how the mind works?  I have not read any Malay documents for a long time.  Now, this is what I don’t like.  I’m getting spam email (I consider this as spam emails) from Malaysia now?  Damn!

Birthday weekend

Comments Off

DB’s birthday is this weekend.  I told him he can have the day off, not do anything, be a couch potato.  He said he can’t do that anymore coz it makes him feel guilty.  (Actually, I like hearing that.)  He said he has to fix the bathroom faucets in both bathrooms.  Will see if he will get to it, if not I’m not gonna push him to do it either.  I have already ask SD and her little family to come celebrate her dad’s b’day with a cake I’m gonna get.
