My first henna

Comments Off

The Asian Heritage Employee Resource Group in our company held an Indian cultural thingy yesterday.  There were tables set up for food, culture and don’t know what else coz I pretty much know what all those spices came from.  I went into the big conference where loud Indian music were blaring in my ears.  An Indian singer in a video was playing.  The entire conference room table were occupied with drawings of henna designs and others…I didn’t bother to look coz the henna artists were busy at their stations.

I found a piece of article on Mehendi henna.  One of the henna artists approached me and asked me if I would like to have my hand drawn.  Damn yeah I would coz I wanted it for the longest time.

The design is not the best since the girl who did mine was just a beginner.  She gave me the number to the pro who was busy at the time I was there.  She said if I want to have her (the pro) professionally done, I can contact her.  I doubt I would do that.  She might charge me $150 per session!!  This is just a wild guess! :)   But overall, I’m happy coz I have finally got a henna done on my arm.  Pictures taken with my cellphone.  So I sent it to DB telling him I got a temporary tattoo on my hand.  Yes, I called it a hand and he came back telling me that is the arm, not hand.  The hand is the palm, back or front…I’m still learning, English is confusing!

It is Memorial Day today, sure nice it’s a federal holiday. I have been waiting for this holiday since the last fed holiday (President’s day). I didn’t want to do anything at all today. My initial plan was to sit on my butt and watch dvds and make the yogurt marmalade cake. Hahaha, I didn’t. Spoke to my mom for a while, went for a walk with the boys and then chatted on Skype with a friend and out I went for a haircut during the afternoon. Came home and DB asked if I bought a laundry hamper that was on my to-get-list. Oops, I didn’t coz I went out in a hurry.  I told him to get it himself tomorrow since I will be at work.

My bro and I has been yakking on Yahoo chat and Skype for a while now. I asked him if his phone is usable while in China. He is not sure but I think it will since it is and unlocked phone. I assume all he needs to do is get a SIM card to replace what he is using in M’sia. I think that’s how it works. I hope it is that easy coz I told him I don’t even want to consider getting a cheap cellphone. Just too bad my cellphone is a locked phone.

There are days I eat so much carbs it’s crazy. DB pretty much eats whatever I make. I baked the yogurt marmalade cake couple of weeks ago, he wanted another one today. Well, I’m sorta lazy to do it. I told him we need to cut down on our food intake for awhile! When I was in my late teens, I buy the best weight loss pill from the the pharmacy, Apex or Guardian pharmacies. The are over the counter and not cheap for a student who tries to starve and safe her pocket money to buy these pills. DB told me no more of these crap from me. Yep, rely on exercise and smaller portions.

Early start

Comments Off

It’s now approximately 3 weeks before my trip to China.  I have already started my shopping.  No big shopping for gifts or what not, more for myself.  Travel size toiletries and a couple of loose fitting shirts and capris.  All my capris are getting a little tight.  Wonder why, huh?  :)   The next big thing that is on my list is a 4gb micro sd card. I need an another just in case I run out of space on my 8 gb.  It’s better to have a spare since I’m not bringing my laptop with me to download the pictures.  So, I’m almost set with my shopping except that little memory card.

Keep or sell the elliptical

Comments Off

The warmer weather is starting to stop me from going out for my walks with the boys. Yes, I still do not like walking in the sun and heat. DB reminded me the elliptical machine is still downstairs. It is, but the motivation to walk down to the basement is not there.  I’m glad I’m doing ballet and pilate movements and most important of all, suck my tummy in as much as I can at all times.  it seems to work.  The only time now I’m walking the boys is during the weekends, in the mornings when it’s still in the 50′s fahrenheit.  I’m not sure if I want to sell the machine now.

DIY mask

Comments Off

Since I am reluctant to buy mask for my face, I have resorted to making my own mask at home.  What ingredients I am using?  My friend told me to mix oatmeal with water and that helps to dry up my acne.  No way am I going to spend money on acne skin treatment if I can save some money. Then I search the web again and found I can use yogurt, oatmeal and honey for a simple facial mask.  Mixed those 3 ingredients together, bang, a mask to soften the skin and acne gone too.  Yeah, I’m trying to live frugal!  Still trying.

This and that

There are things to blog about but I just can’t seem to get to it.   Lazy is one of the reason and the other is I’m busy searching and reading up on the places we will be visiting in China.  The trip will still go on even though my parents are not coming with us.  Yes, there was a change of plans, my parents are not going with my bro, his gf and myself, due to health reasons.  But all is good with my parents, not to worry.  So, who, from M’sia, wants to go to China since there are two extra tickets all paid for from KUL/PEK/CAN/KUL? :) (CAN = Guangzhou.)  And by the way, my sis can’t go, have to fook si the kids.

From China, I will be travelling to Ipoh to see my parents where I will spend a week with them and on to Spore for two days and back to the States.  We might not spend the entire 2 weeks in China since our parents are not with us.  If we are able to go to the places we want to visit in less than 2 weeks, we will head to Ipoh early which would be awesome.  A few extra days with my folks is what I want as I only get to see them once every 2 years.

Anyways, I can’t wait to get on this vacation.  It would be nice if my parents were coming along so I could spend more time with them, nonetheless, I am able to hang out with my bro since it has been too many years we last saw each other.   We are getting in touch more often now through Yahoo! and Skype.  Now if my sis is on Skype, it would be even better.  Safe me some dough right there.

I’m not a health freak at all.  I’m more a very simple kind of person where as long as I’m eating right, drink enough water, and take my multi-vitamins daily, I’m good to go. Sounds easy and darn easy. But the latter works good when I’m younger or even up till a couple of years ago. Now that I’m in my late 30′s, the insides of me sure works differently. DB told me I should get my colon cleanse at least once a year. I heard of that but I still need to search for the best colon cleansing out there. I have thought of cleaning out my insides for a long time but just hasn’t got to it. I might have to after my vacation.

The countdown for my trip to China/M’sia has started. I have been doing a lot of internet surfing lately on the places we are visiting. Facebook is on a break for the time being. DB is trying to “speed-up” my PC that I’m using daily for my surfing, with whatever computer memory he has stored in the basement. My PC is acting up lately, so the Jack-of-all-trades is trying to fix it up for me. He said for sure the PC needs more memory. Figures, since the PC is about 10 years old, not much maintenance done to it, needless to say, that baby sure needs some good TLC.

Spring pics

My fav flower out on the yard, but DB hates it with a passion.
Photobucket

Yup, it’s the most pain in the ass weed, dandelions. I find them pretty coz I had no idea they were weeds. I remember when I was a kid, I would pick those flowers. Not till I came here, I was told by my dear “gardener”, this dandelions are the toughest to get rid off.

That’s our backyard or more like a moon surface – patchy grass all over.

Crabapple tree flowers, love them each spring.

Here’s is a better view of the patchy backyard with the two limpy boys, Ranger and Chase, chilling

And, finally, the youngest but has to be first all the time.  He sits funny.  When he gets ready to sit, he will put all his weight on his front legs, the hind legs are just like a gymnast doing a hand stand, hind legs hanging in the air, straight out.

Animal Control

Comments Off

Continuation from the previous post of goats.

DB placed a called to the city’s Animal Control (AC).  First was to ask about Chase’s dog license.  The city ordinance that I pulled up from the website says, quote from the city’s ordinance:

Except as otherwise provided, no person shall keep any animal other than a household pet within the City. No more than two (2) dogs over the age of four (4) months shall be maintained at any one residence or premises.

It says right there “No more than two dogs….”, well, we are definitely over the limit.  DB called AC, placed a message on their voicemail on Friday asking if we need to apply for domestic kennel application where it will allow 3 or not more than 6 dogs.  They finally called today.

All turns out well.  The above stated quote ordinance was old.  They have not updated the site yet.  WTH??  Anyways, we can apply for a regular dog license like what we did for the other boys. Cool right there.

Next, DB asked was about the neighborhood goats.  The AC guy said depending on where we are, yes, goats are allowed in the city of XYZ.  If we are at the south of the city (I have no idea where south of the city is), farm animals are allowed as pets.  DB gave him the cross roads of where we live.  The guy said where we live, no, farm animals are not allowed.  But the AC don’t get any complains.  He even said that there are reports that some residents (north of the city) are raring chickens, too.  Great, huh?

DB didn’t tell the AC guy which house has the goats, but he thanked him for returning his call and the information.

The mehhhhh-ing is still going on.  DB said he might have to call AC in the near future to report that fateful home about the noise from their goats.  That mehhhhh-ing souds so pitiful, as if these two goats are suffering.  They are tied up with a rope.  Hate to see animals tied up.  Will see how DB’s mood is!

“Mehhh, mehhhhh”

Comments Off

Know what that title means?  I’m trying to imitate the sound both DB and I have been hearing since mid early April.  Every day this “mehhhhhh”, “mehhhhhhh” comes on in the morning, afternoon, late afternoon, evenings and sometimes up to 8 – 9:30 p.m.  If we have the windows and patio door shut, it’s not so bad, but since it’s a warmer, DB wants the patior door and windows opened.

This sound only comes from the back of our house.  Initially we thought it is a kid.  We would close one ear.  It sure sounds like someone is torturing the kid.  Since it’s early May, we completely have all the windows in the house opened everyday and night, especially the kitchen and bedroom windows.  I can hear it when I go to bed at 9 p.m.

Last weekend we were outside doing some yard work, the sound really got loud.  We look to the direction of the sounds.  It sure seems like it’s two houses away from us from the back.  I told DB maybe it’s a child or a cat.  He thought it’s a cat and not a child coz who would let their child cry, whine that long and especially at night.  DB said he felt like calling the cops to have them check it out.  I told him NO.  Not yet.

So, on Wednesday, DB went on his daily routine by opening the windows and door, there it is again.  He waited till there was daylight, took out his binoculars and guess what that was???????

Frigging GOATS!

There are two of them whining goats in the backyard of the house we thought where the sound came from.  I got home and saw them through the bino too.  Damn-sam, I so want to call animal control to report the owners. The goats are brown in color with black and white stripes on their faces.  I imagine they are pygmy goats, but i’m not sure.  Maybe all goats have that white and black stripes on their faces, I have no stinking idea.  The link on pygmy goats have a picture of a brown goat which those two goats in our neighborhood look like.

I looked up the city ordinance, no farm animals are allow in the city.  I assume these goats are pet goats, I still think it’s forbidden to rear goats in the suburban neighborhood.  I am still debating if we should call animal control ask them if thy neighbor has license for them goats.  Or should I, and if I can stop DB, too, to not call at all and leave them goats alone and we just enjoy the “mehhhhhhh, mehhhhhhh”.  Don’t know.

Vacation prep

Comments Off

About a month I will be going on my vacation. I have not done much for the trip. No buah tangan bought yet for family. Stuff I did so far are getting my ticket from US to Beijing and back, reserved hotel in Beijing, Chinese visa, tickets Guangzhou to KUL segment bought for the 5 travelers, and finally, getting in touch with a Chinese girl who is a friend of mine to be our guide. She speaks English and will be the guide when we are in Beijing and Datong. Coincidentally, Datong is her hometown, so she says hopefully she is able to guide us when we travel to Datong.  Since “wor men der putong hua shuo der pu hou,” she will definitely come in handy!  Hahaha!  I still remember a little.  Whatever it is, I’m sure we will survive as long as we present the face of Ben Franklin (US hundred dollar bill) or like my dad says, the Agong’s face, every thing will go fine!  I guess this summer trip will be the vacation of the year for me.  No Vegas vacations for me this year. Hopefully by next year things will be better at our end, both DB and I will get to go on some kind of vacation.

A little Indian commotion

Comments Off

The HR area I’m in is located in an “enclosed” area.  There is a private room with a phone, which is for HR use only, for us folks who sit in open cubes who wants to make private and personal calls.

Since this private room is right at the entrance to the HR area, there are folks who would come in to have a private call on their cellphone or just make a quick phone call.

My cube is about 5 cubes away from the main door to the HR area.  This morning, I was working away and, out of the blue, I heard an Inidan lady’s voice, a very irritated sounding voice.  Initially I thought it was some Indian folks having a conversation outside the HR area.  I stood up, saw no one outside the area but the door to the private room was closed.  Then it struck me that the whole Indian commotion was from that room.  So I kay poh chee a little, walked over to see what was going on.  Obviously, an Indian lady on the phone, sounded like she is yelling at the other party, angry at some thing.  I shook my head, walked back to desk and still able to hear her loud and clear, crystal clear.

The loud commotion from the room went on for another 10 minutes.  I had enough of it – could hardly concentrate on what I’m doing.  I am a minority in this company, too.  I try not to speak my mother tougue when I’m in an English speaking, public environment.  There are a  lot of employees the company hired from India and China.  When these folks from their same country meet up, boy, all you hear is just St. Peter’s language, and they don’t talk softly either.  No offense, but I find it very rude them yakking in their own mother tougue.

Anyways, back to this “irritated” Indian lady.  I walked over and saw two of my other coworkers were standing there trying to figure out what they should do.  These two coworkers sit farther in than i do, yet they were still able to hear this Indian lady.  I told them we should knock on the door and tell her to tone it down as she is disrupting others in the area.  One of the coworker said it’s really annoying to know that any Tom, Dick or Harry walks in to the room where it has a sign that says “HR Use Only”, and jabber on the phone so loudly.  I concur with her.  So, the other coworker said give another 5 minutes, and if it continues, one of us will intervene.

5 minutes past, my coworker walked over, knocked on the door at least 8 times and finally heard the Indian lady acknowledge the knock.  See, she was yelling so loud she could not even hear the knock.  J.C., sister!!  My coworker told her to turn the volume down as she is disturbing a lot of other employees in the area.  Of course she didn’t tell her that there are also many others who are walking by the area stopped and had a WTF look.  The Indian lady said “sorry, sorry” a few times to my coworker.  My coworker went back to her desk, the conversation in the room went on but this time a little softer and yet I could still hear it, not as clear.  Probably she continued with her call for another couple of minutes and then SILENCE.  Phew….peace and quiet.

So there it is, the highlight of the day for me!
