Too contemporary for me

Comments Off

IMG_3973See this picture on the left?  This is what the church I go to looks like.  Super boring in my book.  It’s too contemporary for me.  Even the church I go to on and off  in Ipoh looks more like a Catholic church.

I chose this current church is because it’s closer to my home and its RICA program does not run like the school system….starts in the fall only which is September. This church’s RCIA program starts anytime of the year.

This current church I am going to now has the font at the entrance as you enter the church, the alter in the front and to the right of the picture is the choir. The font is also the holy water…this font is the immersion font. During baptism, the whole body will be immersed, dunked in the font. This is one I was very surprise to learn. Thought baptisms are done in just a small little font where the priest will pour water on the head. But whatever what the font looks like, I don’t really fancy how the church carries out the mass. In my book, it’s not the traditional mass I’m so used to see and experienced.

I always thought the Catholic church has altar boys but this church tarak ada!! The priest still the last to walk but kids (male or female) are sort of the altar boy(s). Super threw me off.  I have been telling my sponsor how not traditional this church is.  She totally agreed with me and that is why her hubby left this church to another more traditional one in St Paul.  I told my sponsor I will hang on till I’m done with the RCIA program…then I will look for a different more traditional church.

IMG_3972
This current church reminds me of a college auditorium.  DB has no interest in this chuch at all.  So I’m still in a journey to look for a church I really like.

Cathedral St Paul

Comments Off

Last Sunday was the first time I stepped into one of the two cathedrals in Minnesota, the Catheral St Paul

Picture taken while still inside the bus….IMG_3988

The Cathedral sits up on much higher grounds across the state Capitol….you can see a column with a green man in the middle of the picture….that man is Archbishop John Ireland…the founder of the Cathedral St Paul at the current site.  (Prior to this huge cathedral, there were 3 others, very much smaller.  You can read the history if you are interested.)

IMG_3992

The trip was part of the RCIA program I’m in now.  The trip is for the celebration of Rite of Election.  I was so pumped coz I got to go to the cathedral and meeting the Archbishop face to face for the first time.

Archbishop Harry Flynn (retired) and me
IMG_4058

The entire mass and rite was beautiful..  But my whole attention was mainly checking out the inside of the cathedral.  Damn, it was just beautiful…especially the dome above the Sanctuary….the dove…the Holy Spirit.IMG_4055

The stain glass windows…
IMG_4046

The many statues of Saints and Apostles…
IMG_4042

…St. John
IMG_4019

The old fashion pews..

The Sanctuary…

And the one that really caught me deep in my heart is this……the Pieta..it got me choked up. It’s a replica of the original Peita in St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.  This replica was put into this Cathedral during the Lenten season.

The Pieta sits right infront of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart…

And here is me, trying to take a picture of myself…crappy picture indeed.
IMG_4012

Another shot of the Sanctuary…not a good shot either…

The main dome…

And confession boxes like this one line up on each end of the cathedral…
IMG_4061

The first time I actually see a confession box….the name of the priest place outside the door to the box. It’s dark inside like you see them in movies….it’s kinda creepy, honestly.

These are some of the pictures that turned out good with my archaic camera.   The cathedral’s website has a photo album if you want to see better pictures.

This is the last week for February. We still have no news from the buyer’s realtor if the sale is yah or nay. Apparently according to our realtor, the short sale application was approved by our bank. So what’s the scoop here leaving us hanging. We don’t even know if the buyer has changed their mind on the purchase or they are waiting till spring to move in. We are sort of packing our junk in the house and dealing with the house and car insurance with the insurance company. Right now we have them both in one company. I am thinking of changing insurance company, if possible, since our current one is so damn expensive….or maybe I’m just feeling the pinch now. Whatever it is, the buyer’s realtor better give us an answer coz if it’s a nay, we have to put the house back on the market….and we will have to stay in the house till mid-May. I just want to get out of this house and not pay the home insurance but instead pay renter’s insurance….hell a lot cheaper. Oh well….my new motto is, Que sera sera. Less for me to worry…let the man do all the worrying!

<2010 CNY gathering>

Comments Off

Chinese New Year is here, yet I don’t feel the CNY mood at all….not a single bit.  There is no such thing here as a Chinatown crap in Minnesota.  Asian stores, yes, there are but the atmosphere is not the same.    Honestly I forgot about CNY till  I started getting all these “CNY card requests” on FB and started to hunt down the actual CNY date.  Pathetic, isn’t it?  This is where I remember my dad so much…come every December he will mail me the race horse calender.  I will have the calendar right smack in the kitchen.

DB’s and I don’t do anything for CNY either.  My friend, Simmie, invited me over to her home last Saturday, Feb 20th, for a CNY gathering amongst her Malaysian/Indonesian/Minneostan friends. It was a nice gathering. DB was suppose to go with me, my driver, but i gave my crud to him thus he was sicker than I was. He got me the directions and I got there save and sound. Small little group but a very lovely group. We had the Malaysian thing of “lou sang”, too! The 2 hot pots were going good….so much food – meatballs, fishballs, chicken meat, shrimp, wantons, dumplings, pork, duck, veggies and so much cookies! I filled my belly up good although I think I didn’t really eat that much coz of my lingeing cold that sort killed my appetite the whole week. I thought I would need to hunt for some weight loss products, hah, guess I don’t need to coz the next morning I was starving….could feel it all the way to my back bone!

Yeah, so this year CNY albeit no mood for it, but the few hours spent with fellow countrymen on CNY, made a difference. Met and made new friends.  Thanks Simmie for the good food and company.

Not what I wanted….

Something really unexpected happened yesterday at work.

Yesterday at work was just another day where Ms E and I went along with our day. Ms E had to leave middle of the day to the cities to get some things done. When she came back I didn’t get to speak to her coz I was in a middle of working on some jobcodes.

When I got back I was exchanging emails with my other counterpart, the big boss walked back to his office requested my boss to his office and then me. I walked over to his office and was going to ask should we wait for Ms. E, he told me to shut the door and take a seat. I was wondering what secret stuff he has to tell us. He started off saying how the company is saving money, the efficiency use of employees, and lay offs. “Sad to say, our department needs to lay off Ms. E.”   Dang, I was so surprised by that sudden announcement. No indications at all, no notice, na-da. I was shocked, that’s all. He then told me and my boss Ms. E’s last day would be and what will happen between now and her last day. I find that the way he handled it was horse-pucky! Totally unprofessional at all.

Our department will drop back to just the three of us like before Ms. E joined the company. Honestly, I’m sadden, very, very sad. I actually cried….after I left the office. Ms. E and I got to be very close…my sidekick, buddy, mentor and most of all, the person God sent to me to hear His words. A very smart lady and so well educated than my…….you know who. I have mentioned it before, I so look up to her for guidance – personally and professionally.

Ms. E’s responsibilities are mainly on project driven and since all these projects have been outsourced, I guess it’s a good time to get rid of her.  No wonder during my review with my boss last month she told me I’m a “valued employee, our department need me and they appreciate” what I do for them.  Now it makes sense why Ms. E has not had her review.

My boss was quiet the entire time the big boss was talking to us yesterday. As if she didn’t already know about this big drop of a bomb. These two always have closed door conversations. Both these folks cannot be trusted anymore.  They are afraid I might leave now since Ms. E will be leaving.

I now have to change my frame of mind when it comes to work.  Keep telling myself I have to count my blessings. It’s hard but I will try no doubt.

It was almost time for me to leave for the day, I went for a pit stop, I came back she was not at her desk. Wanted to chat with her about no xplode bsn supplements her hubby was debating to get. Guess I missed her by a few minutes.   Anyways, we got to that subject this morning in between work stuff.  Yeah we talk about anything, everything.

My friend, Simmie, a fellow Malaysian, invited me to her CNY gathering at her house tomorrow. Thank goodness I’m getting back to my feet from the stupid cold. Yes, it’s going to be a a big feast where fat loss pills will be needed after or before! Nah, I don’t think I will resort to pills but will power will do. Since it’s the Lenten season, I had decided to fast on Fridays morning till dusk but with the cold and absurd cough still hanging on me, I am not going to.   Actually DB and I are working on swearing less during this Lenten season and hopefully after 46 days, the cussings coming from us will be less to none and will stay that way!

I reckon it’s not very fair of us to trim down on dog food since we are on a major budget cut in our household. DB said the dogs are getting too thin….that’s in his books….in my books, the boys look good with a “waist”. I have been cutting down on their food a month ago. It’s more of saving money on my end. Not easy to maintain SO many bills with one income, so I thought since we are cutting down on our own grocery bill, why not the dogs also. I was chatting with a lady at work about her dogs and food, she is doing what I’m doing. Dogs are losing weight which is good she said, can’t any better alli review than this. The dogs are in better shape and don’t look sluggish but I told her my dogs, however, they are begging for food since I cut down on their chow during meal times. I have now decided to change their dog food to some cheaper brand which means crappy food and more crap to pick up…. but changing to cheaper food that comes in a bigger bag makes the master so damn happy….he can feed his boys more now! Blardy hell! Whatever it is I’m in the losing end! :(

Of late me and my coworker are just not into working….us doing the same old thing month after month and it is not challenging anymore. So I told her no wonder I’m graying easily bcoz of tyring to “look busy” at work….totally a stresser for me and for her too. She said more wrinkles too from frowning at her job! That was cute which I have not hurt of. But then this is the kicker…she said with her putting on some weight since trying to wean the kid of nursing, it does take wrinkles off her face, consider it the best wrinkle creams out there in the market!  Hah, in other words for me I will have to put on some too.  Nah, we concluded that drinking tons of water will help hydrate the skin, hence, less wrinkles!  This is what two coworkers talk about when they are bored!

My coworker and I were talking about working out. She knows I go for my walks as a form of exercise whereas for her, she rely on nursing her daughter who turned one last week. So now she is thinking of weaning her off but then the mom will have a hard time losing weight. She said nursing the kid was the best remedy for her to lose the baby fat. I suggested she could use her hubby’s mini gym in the basement, however she is not too much into his gym equipment. She said all his gym equipment pretty much match the best testosterone cream out in the market….in other words the mini gym her hubby set up is meant for “the man”. The only thing that is worth a try is the stationary bike which she says is super boring. Don’t blame her for that.

Kick ass cold

Comments Off

It’s been more than a week and this stupid cold is still kicking my ass. I still cannot smell nor taste anything that goes into my mouth. It sure beats any top fat burners you can find. Wish I can just not eat but due to having to take antibiotics for my sore throat, I need to have food in my stomach. Initially I didn’t want to see the doctor because it was just a sore throat but the sore throat was so bad after 3 days of dunking down the Cap Ibu and Anak Ubat, no luck, it was bad to the extend I thought it was strep. So I went in to see the doctor on Thursday last week to check out the throat and my left wrist…..I slipped and fell on ice on Feb 2. I knew I sprained it…a virgin sprain I called it coz I have not sprained it before! :) AFter a week plus the wrist is still hurting and swollen a little. The doc check out the throat and it’s not strep, happy me. Next the wrist where I needed x-rays. X-rays came back good….no fractures or hairline fracture. Just a sprain which will take a few more weeks to heal with ice and Ibuprofen. The doc gave me a wrist guard which make it hard to move the wrist around, hence making typing a chore now. Go figure after seeing the doctor, from good old sore throat I now have a kick butt cough and sinus infection.

So with this not-going-away cold and cough and not-so-mobile wrist, I’m just a happy camper. The boys are particularly the crabby ones….whining the whole day coz they see me laying on the bed or couch and they want their walks.

I told DBs, I didn’t get sick since early 2009 and I don’t usually get sick much but hell, when I get sick, I really get sick.

Another after snow post

Picture taken in the morning while it was still snowing lightly. I didn’t go in to work coz of my sickening throat. Took the picture to see where the grill is….so much for trying to get some grilling in!

This was taken right after the snow stopped. We went out to take pictures and walk on the fresh snow!

And so happen it was also trash and recycle day.

Yep that’s DB standing there…looks like he is supervising those recycle guys but he was not. He was trying to shovel a path for me.

Doesn’t care how deep the snow is, he still wants to fetch!

IMG_3821
At least the boys didn’t venture over here…..nice and smooth, somewhat.

IMG_3823
Cooper wants Chase’s stick but he is getting slower now. Heart is willing but legs are not.

IMG_3830
This is Ranger’s walking route.  He so want to climb up the snow banks and snoop near the woods.  I don’t let him coz of his bad leg.

After 3 days of snowing

Comments Off

IMG_3893
The snow is piling high on the patio. Snow started on Monday late morning and didn’t stop till Wednesday noon.

IMG_3827
As soon as the snow stopped, I went out with the boys, Cooper and Chase to the park. Ranger I had to walk him separately from the other 2. The weather was nice in the 20′s F. Snow on the streets was melting after the plows went through. This was taken about 2 hours after the plows came by. Can see black on the roads!

Fresh snow this kid was sledding right after school.

In the trails, just beautiful…untouched till me and the two boys came along!

Tried getting a picture of the two together…but Cooper is too damn camera shy! Notice Chase’s missing teeth? One big empty gap with missing tooth and a fang? It’s the same on the other side. But he still could chew his rawhides down in seconds.

Finally, he looked over and stayed put!

You think he is on the tubby side

Comments Off

This is Chase, the crazy fetching nut. Any stick on sight, he will pick it up and run it to me to throw for him.  But what I want to say is….

IMG_3722

IMG_3765

….I still think he is on the heavy side…in other words, fat. But the master said he is just nice for the winter. He needs the extra fat to keep warm, he said. I think the temperature is not that cold now.  20′s Fahrenheit is decent.   I understand if the temp is in the teens and single digits but when it reaches 20′s I find it kinda warm too when I go for my walks with a jacket on.

The last we weigh him he was 92 pounds and that was probably 6 – 7 months ago. I once cut his food down to 2.5 cups a day his ribs were sticking out and he was constantly begging for food and the master said he was too thin. I forgot to ask the vet what his ideal weight should be which i assume he will tell “as long as you can feel his ribs”. Well, I can sorta feel his ribs but can’t see them now.  Honestly I have to walk them twice a day but it’s tiring to walk 4 times a day – I still walk Chase and Cooper separate from Ranger.

Since the day DB left for TX I started using one of his PC, the Gateway. We have names for all of our PC’s. The Gateway runs much faster than the laptop I have sitting on the dining table. I started using the laptop for quite sometime coz it is sitting on the table for convenience sake. I used the Gateway for all my FB games and some blogging. Couple of weeks towards DB’s return, the Gateway started to act funny. The internet connection just disappears while the laptop and my own computer in my room works. And 2 days before DB got home, I received the blue screen of death on his PC. Dang! I knew must be the games I have been playing. When he got home and received his other PC (I shipped one PC to him in TX), that PC was find and so were the other computers in the house. He was able to fix the GAteway back to sub-par and I started using it again. Now it’s completely messed up! It won’t boot up. He said it’s not my gaming….it’s something else in the hard drive. I really do not know if I didn’t anything to it. So, now I’m back at my own computer in my own room with my FB games. I’m hoping my PC won’t die on me now.
