The cluttered garage

Comments Off

It sure looks like we are clutter freaks! :) I know I am. DB was not, see the word “was”? Yep, when I first moved to this country, living in his clutter free apartment, he was always picking up all the time. That aptment was really well organized and totally no clutter. But after I came and not too long, the clutter started and he too picked up my super bad trade, slowly but surely.

That’s our garage right now. At least we moved more then enough to get my car in. His truck is parked outside for now till we can clear up the other side of the garage.

Our mission hopefully this June is to sell the riding and push mower, weed wackers. The riding mover comes with the fertilizer spreader and don’t know what else. Man’s toys, I have no idea what they are called. Next, we also need to sell the washer and dryer that are sitting all the way back against the wall along the refrigerator. That refrigerator has been with him forever and it works damn good. So that we are keeping. Now, I can’t make up my mind if I want to sell the  NordiacTrac elliptical machine.  It’s also sitting all the way behind, covered up by boxes!  I know I want to get rid of the Bowflex and a heavy oak desk.  That sucker is definitely going!  There are still some stuff left in the old house’s garage.  I think there are more of his tools and a dozen fishing poles and his tackle boxes.  Yeah, that man sure loves to fish and cannot part with his fishing poles.  Also there are some boxes of ammos for his guns in the old garage.

Oh, you see the two blocks of wood on the lower left coner?  We have more in the old house.  They are all oak wood, great for fire places but since no one wants them and we don’t have a wood fireplace, we are going to still bring them over to this new garage….the man said, “just in case we buy a fire pit.”  o.O  I wanted to just leave them in the old house but the realtor said everything that belongs to us has to go!  So, we have to haul them over today.

The howling dogs

Comments Off

I took this video on the day of our move at our old house. I had to put all three of them in my office coz they were in the way when the guys were moving stuff. It tickles me to see them howl each time the siren goes off. Every 1st Wednesday of the month, the sirens will go off – testing for severe weather.  Whether it is the severe weather siren or the police/fire truck, they will howl just like in the video.

It’s not so bad if the dogs are outside but when they are confined inside a small room, the howling is just so so loud….almost deafening.

< 3-day weekend >

Comments Off

Memorial Day weekend, it’s a three-day weekend for me and DB. Yes, I have been looking forward to this holiday for a while. We will be busy with cleaning up the old house ready for the bank’s realtor. There are still a bunch of stuff to pick up for donation. All these going back and forth between the old and new place is really sucking up a lot of our energy. Oh well, at least we get a “reward” from the realtor’s agency in a form of monies….that’s a motivation! :) Monday will be a day for us to just chill. I told DB I will take a break from walking the boys, long walks that is. I don’t need any diet supplement right now. I actually is tired of walking and getting up early during work week to walk them for their business. So this holiday weekend, I’m just gonna chill and will just walk the boys right to the front of the house and they have to get their jobs done there. I want a break!

Pictures of the inside (1)

Comments Off

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the house. Just to remind you, I didn’t pick up the house or put things away when I took these pictures…clutter galore!

The entryway…..stairs facing the front door. I think according to fung shui, it’s not good. All the chi will flow right out the door!
DSC02943

Another view of the entryway. (Ranger taking a siesta.)
DSC02956

The fireplace in the living room. The big hole above the fireplace is meant for a TV, but the old fashion big screen TV is damn big as you can see on the right, can’t fit into that hole. The fireplace is run by gas/electric.  We will put up Igor (the deer head) to fill up the hole instead of what we have up there now!  The clock is for the kitchen.
DSC02941

The living room. Our furniture is too darn big for the room!  Igor sitting on top of the TV for now.
DSC02939

Here is the dining room. The one and only TV in the house now that is digital. It is now hooked to a digital antenna. No satelite or cable yet.
DSC02944

The kitchen. First door next to refrigerator is the bathroom (just the toilet and sink) and the door next to it is the utility room (furnace, water heater and softener).
DSC02946

The pantry without the shelves is under the stairs.
DSC02934

The spot for coffee and toast. Underneath that table is where the water bowl for the dogs. We feed the dogs against the wall where the recycle can is (with black bag).
DSC02948

The room to the left is the storm shelter/room. Door across it is the 1/4 bathroom, then the utility room and then the door to the garage (not shown). We put a rug and a stool to put on and take off our shoes.
DSC02949

The storm shelter is now a storage area for dog chow, vacuum cleaner, shampooer, paper towels, coolers, etc.
DSC02950

The kitchen sink area and picture below is where the pantry is.

As you can see, pretty much everything in the house is white in color and we have already dirtied some of the walls, cabinets and doors.

Pictures of upstairs will come later… :)

< His health benefits >

Comments Off

DB’s place of work is offering health benefits for its employees and I’m encouraging him to look into it. We are definitely looking into cheap health insurance for us if possible. He is now under my medical coverage and it’s expensive. If his health insurance is cheaper, I will have him sign up with his company and I will cancel mine. But if it’s cheaper for his insurance to cover just for himself, then I will take him off mine. Like I said before, we are on a very tight budget now. We don’t have the extra moolah saved up, so whatever we can do to cut extra expenses, we are going to do it.

< Our new neighborhood >

Comments Off

As usual for me, once I get the dogs out for their walks, I will start investigating the new area we are living in. I have to say, the townhome community we are at is one very peaceful community. We don’t hear the neighbors at all unlike when we were at the old house. I suppose without a backyard, the neighbors have no where else to go except the little patio or in the house. Now, I have been going a little farther out of my townhome are and ventured out to the single family homes neighborhood which is 2 streets and a block of prairie land from our home. OMG, those single family homes were gorgeous. They are around $400+K homes. I took couple of pictures with my cellphone but they turned out horrible. Will try again this weekend. I was like “wow” under my breath when I see those homes…homes with swimming pools and a lot of them have little front yard ponds with pond skimmer installed. I have not lived so close to such big and beautiful homes so now, I’m just like some kid admiring someone’s home for the first time.

< Renter's insurance >

Comments Off

It’s been 4 weeks we are in the new house. Sad to admit, we have not look into renter’s insurance. I wanted to get the renter’s insurance through our current insurance company but they are quoting us extremely high even though we have 2 auto insurances with them. You would thing the insurance company will give us a better, lower quote with all three together. Yesterday, I went to my credit union to ask about cheap insurance for auto and renter’s insurance. We are definitely putting all of our bills on a diet.

Hoping to save a few bucks

Comments Off

My car has been acting really weird for many, many months.  It started last winter.  I had to send the car to our local mechanic once in December of last year to get it fix and I told them to do the bare minimal.  It has to do with some spark plugs which they only fix 3 out of 6 coz I was short of cash but the guy at the shop said it will not last.

After the the fix, the car was running a little better and it does not take 15 minutes to warm the car up.  But then after 1.5 months, it got worse.  DB came back from TX and he changed all the 6 spark plugs.  There was something else wrong too, I can’t remember.  The car was running better but not 100%.  Now after 4 months, something else came up…..first of the air conditioning is dead which is not that bothersome.  What is bothering me and DB the most is the constant vibration,  chugging and it takes forever to get up to speed especially getting on the freeway.  DB thinks it’s the fuel filter problem.

Last week, DB went to the auto parts store and bought a fuel filter for my car.  Came home he worked on it but guess what?????  The damn filter connector snapped and low and behold, DB was soaked with gasoline.  We cannot drive it since the connector broke. So, we had to call AAA to the rescue – tow the car to the nearest shop around our area.

Everything was was run by pressing a button on a remote..

We wanted AAA to tow it to our usual mechanic shop but it was too far. The closest was a place that was cut throat. A simple fix cost us $120+ and we were trying to save some cash.

After the fix, the car is still not 100%. DB wants those guys to change the plug wires but they quoted us $500 for the parts and labor. Well, I don’t think we will be taking our vehicles to them. Now, I don’t know if DB is going to attempt fixing it himself or taking it to our usual shop. The shop quoted us a price of $350+ (parts and labor). Man, that is expensive for me too…..pay day, i can’t wait for you to come sooner.

< Drug addiction detox >

Comments Off

How many drug addicts are out there these days seeking for help? I’m sure there are some who are in dire need of help but unable to get it. When I was in Vegas, I remember seeing some guys and gals hanging around the back of the lanes having a dose of weed. I assume that is social but what about those who are into hard core drugs?

If these hard core druggist who do want help, they would want rapid detox, a detox facility based out in Las Vegas.  This is only if they are ready and has a lot of support from families and a very good detox facility to assist them with the initial and post treatment.

< Lunch with the boss >

Comments Off

My boss took me out for my 10th year anniversary. It’s just the two of us. There is no big boss in our department at this location. Her boss is now the big, big boss who sits in NYC. The lunch was good. Kinda uncomfortable for me initially but it lighten up. We talked about every thing except work. I do miss my former boss though, who was her boss. Yeah, she asked if I received my anniversary gift from the company. I have not which I think will arrive later this afternoon. I really like the fact that the company gets its vendor to take care of these anniversary gifts. The site is neat too, broken down to years of anniversary for gifts for her, for him and unisex kinda gifts. My boss is happy I accepted her invite for this lunch. I am too, and since it’s just the two of us, I may as well, change my attitude towards her.

< Change of insurance company soon >

Comments Off

It’s been years since I have to deal with our insurance company. Honestly, they are very expensive. Since we are now renting, I told DB I want to change insurance companies. The credit union I am with right now offers very decent motor and home insurance rates. I have requested life insurance quote from them before and they are extremely decent, reasonable for my pay.  Today I might drop by the credit union and speak to the rep or I might call or email him tomorrow.  It’s kinda nice to be in charge of this kind of stuff again….it used to be handled by the man, but I want to be in loop, just for c.y.a. purposes.

< 10 years anniversary >

Comments Off

Saturday will be my 10 years with my company. Quite a feat as I have not work for a company for more than 3 years. My company gives its employees anniversary gifts who celebrate their 5, 10, 20, 25, and so on with gifts. They are not individually personalized gifts. There is the company logo on the chosen giftif we choose to have it on. On my 5th year I picked up a dart board which we used it a few times and it’s now in the hands of DB’s nephew. For my 10th year, I chose a mantel clock for our fireplace mantel. I think I will get it tomorrow delivered to my house. Can’t wait to see what it looks like.

< Alarm system >

Comments Off

When we bought our first house, there was an alarm system set up in the house. I was not too crazy about these home security systems coz they are super loud if the alarm goes off. In this new hut, there is one already installed. The boys is the home alarm system right now. It’s nice to have one just in case I want to turn it on but then you need to pay for the fees to run it. I think the last one we had it up was about $50+ a month. Not too bad but will have to think about it.

< Eating badly >

Comments Off

Since I have good blood work results, I have been indulging on really bad stuff…stuff that I usually don’t eat mainly because they will make me fat and super bad for the health. But recently, I didn’t care, I ate them. They are chicken skin grilled till the fats all gone – just the skin. Fat from around pork chops. Again, this is grilled too. We usually leave the fat for grilling to add the extra flavor. Bacon grease is the next one. I use them for cooking, sometimes, not all the time, and when I use it, it’s very little or if I use it to bake potatoes, then the grease will be rubbed all over the potatoes. They are really good on baked potatoes, I tell ya.  I’m sure by next year when I go for my blood work I will be told to take cholesterol supplement to lower my cholesterol especially high cholesterol runs in both sides my family.  The good thing is I am exercising every day, so will that really helps with the bad stuff I’m stuffing myself?  I hope so! :)

< Junk for Salvation Army >

Comments Off

Speaking of junk, we need to clean out the old house. Remember I mentioned earlier we are leaving whatever we don’t want in the house? Not anymore, every thing that we do not want or does not belong to the house (appliances) have to go. The bank has a realtor come by last week and he (realtor) gave us an offer of a “relocation fee” if we clean up the house (broom swept) ready for the market, his company will send us a check of 2K. Btw, our realtor bailed out on us, that biatch. Whatever offer we had on the buyer months ago was history. So now, our bank is nice enough to let us take our time to clean up for their realtor to sell the house on their behalf. We told the realtor we will get the house clean up by June 1st. Will hand over the keys and garage door openers to him on that day and that will be the last of the time we see that house.

All the junk I have left downstairs for Goodwill have to go, I have to send them to Goodwill. My coworker told me to call Salvation Army (SA) and they will come by with their truck to collect the items, instead of sending them to Goodwill. Goodwill pick and chooses if they will come pick the stuff up. I have so much crap downstairs ranging from cushions, exercise ball, cheap digital frame from a contest, lamps, furniture, books, clothes, jackets, 1980′s video cameras, ceramic pedestals, glass table, dog collars, beds and the list is forever. Have to make a note to check SA online to schedule an appointment for pickup and if there are any NO items included in the pickup list.
