Enough of rain for now

DSC02975

The above picture was taken last Friday. The dogs were bored to DEATH!!!! It was thundering and lightning majorly. I usually walk them after our dinner but that evening was not the case. Mother nature was having a fit! And it was a bad one too.  I don’t mind walking if there’s thunder but then the man forbid me to go out at all.  He is the kind that if it thundering and lightning out, no going outside and no using the shower.

In the picture below, we are in the central part where it says Twin Cities (the box towards the right), if you can read it.  Sorry for the blur picture.  I set the camera mode to something besides Auto.  Didn’t check it before taking the pictures.

DSC02971

There were thunderstorm and tornado warnings. There was actually tornado touch downs but far from us. The picture I took from the news on TV shows where the tornados are – the 2 big red round dots.  Needless to say, DB was glued to the TV watching out for the storm.    There was one bad storm over our head the next night.  Super heavy rain, thunder, lightning right before we head to bed (10 pm).  DB stayed up till the storm passed by which was about 30+ minutes later.

DSC02972

It has been raining every week, at least 3 – 4 days a week.  The ground is so saturated it’s no joke.  Walk on it and it’s “squish, squish”.  There’s water running off the grass onto the sidewalks and roads even the day after.

There is more rain forecasted for this weekend….storms.  Whoopee doo!  “Love summer weather!” :(

< We Asians! >

Comments Off

It’s weird how Asians tend to stick to together, at least here at work. A new recruiter joined the company and she sits a wall away from me and she’s Asian. (I didn’t know the recruiting department is replacing the other recruiter who has to go for Mesothelioma treatment.) Since this new recruiter came on board, us 3 (another Asian in the same HR area) have been hanging together for coffee and chats. I noticed other Asians in the company are doing the same thing. Chinese from China are in one group and so are the Indians from India. Although the 3 of us Asians are from different countries (Malaysia, Vietnam and Korea), we still share one common thing: filial piety.  We do have very interesting conversations once we get it going!

< 3-day weekend >

Comments Off

Both DB and I are looking forward to the coming 3-day weekend. It’s Fourth of July, America’s independence day. It falls on a Sunday, so both DB and I have Monday, July 5 off. We already have plans to work around the house. First of is to move his office furniture from the garage and boxes of stuff out of my den to his office. Then he has to help me work on my little den where he has to move the book cases so I can clear up my area of boxes! There are still boxes all over the house and garage. Next will be the pantry. Land lady is going to get us the shelving for the pantry, DB will put them up. It will be a busy 3-day weekend for us.

Change cellphones?

Comments Off

Like I mentioned on the previous post, our two-year is up for a cellphone upgrade with our cellphone provider.  DB is itching to get his upgraded to another BB Curve.  Right now he has a BB Curve 8330.  He is looking at the BB Curve 8530 in black.  He put on a ton of usage on his phone and I don’t even know how many times he has dropped that phone.  All these usage was when he was in TX – calls and texting day in day out from morning till he goes to bed.  From the surface the phone has a lot of scratches and some of the numbers and alphabets are rubbing off the keys.

I on the other hand will just stick to my LG enV@2 for now which looks like this which I took from here.

DB said I should go a head and look at which one I want.  I was told by my coworker to check out HTC Imagio which is compatible with the phone provider.   The only drawback about this phone is the touch screen thingy.  Hate all the finger prints all over the screen.  The features are good especially the camera with 5 megapixels.

As of writing this, DB is checking out the BB Bold 9650 Smartphone.  Under this phone plan, he is the primary holder and I’m the secondary.  Some phones that I really like I have to pay some $$ in order to get it (BB Curve, HTC, LG).  The freebies are quite “loh toh”, not that canggih looking.  So, I might just have to wait on mine for now.  When DB decides which one he wants and if he feels like forking out a few bucks for mine, I will decide which to get.

Anyone used Motorola phones before?

Our cellphones 2-year plan is already up. We both are entitled to change new phones with the same provider and the same 2-year plan. If we want to put the phone plan on a diet we can do that too. DB is up to changing his phone to another Blackberry. At least getting new phones they do not check our credit report or even for his so call business, no business credit reports needed for checking. I looked at my choices of phones and the BB Curve is one of it. However, after reading the reviews from other users about how the battery suck, and also from DB’s current BB battery, I opting to stick with my current phone. There are other phones like the Droid and don’t know what others but I will just hang on to my good old LG for now.

< Shopping at work >

Comments Off

THere is a convenience store at my workplace. There’s a reason why it’s call convenience, right? Employees are able to mail letters/parcels via USPS or UPS, renew car tabs (similar to road tax), boat licences, buy greeting cards, junk food, etc. Recently the store has different kinds of vendors setting up table selling designer handbags at outlet prices. Darn cheap, if I have the extra cash I would buy them too. Today they have a table selling men and women’s shirts, a lot of them focused on men’s tuxedo shirts. It’s nice to have these little vendors coming in but boy, at times the bargains are dirt cheap, you can keep buying them if you don’t have the will power, like a co-worker of mine!

< Finally it's Friday >

Comments Off

It’s nice to know it’s Friday, finally. I have been waiting for Friday since Monday! It’s terrible, I know but I can’t help feeling that way. The work week goes by super slow for me whereas it goes by damn fast for DB. He said since he does not have a cube or desk of his own at work, he does not check his emails or blogs like extenze or just plain reading the news on MSN.   The weekends for him that is just Saturday off is to catch up with his emails and read besides the other stuff needed to be done in the house and then he is back to work Sunday through Friday.  For me, weekend starts Friday, especially Fridays where I’m damn free at the grind stone.  Yes, I always look forward to Fridays.

< No more baking >

Comments Off

Now that we have a much newer oven in our new place, I have been baking a little….cakes and cookies. The baking has to stop. DB was saying he lost over 10+ pounds but gained them back since I have been baking almost every week. He said he cannot boast about his weight loss success story anymore which he did by just cutting down on his portions, ice-cream and junk food. Now, he has to start all over again.  The problem with baking cakes or cookies lowfat is kinda crappy tasting….i like the taste of butter in them, it does taste much better with butter unlike baking them with margarine.  I can still bake but take the goodies to church!  There’s always someone there to eat them. :)

< Goodwill will be so happy>

Comments Off

We have been in the new hut for over a month. We still have a lot of boxes and furniture in the garage. DB went through some on Saturday and already started a pile for Goodwill. I told him Goodwill is going to be one happy camper when they see us. I can’t remember the number of times I drove to their drop off center and dropped off junk we didn’t want. I know for sure one medium size box of PC softwares which include a scanning software that was a waste of money when they initially got it from Mark for their idea of a PC business. This Saturday we will be going to Goodwill for sure to make more room in our garage!

Why must my dog roll on yucky stuff??

Comments Off

Dogs do that, I know coz my crazy ass dog, Ranger does that a lot.  Probably just to piss the crap outta me.

I know dogs roll on dead animals or even on other animals’ poop so they, the dogs can leave their scent there, like how they mark their territory on a tree, or what my friend says “leaving their calling card”.  Also, I read they do that so they could mask their own scent and another I read is dogs to that to tell the other animals they found something interesting!!!!   Animals, they are some creatures, alright.

DSC02894

Ranger is one of these animals from the wolf family….!!!  That fella did it 2 weeks ago.  He was smelling something on our way back from a walk, he was sniffing for quite some time and I started to pull on the leash.  He then moved a little and BAM, rolled on the grass he was sniffing.  I kept pulling his leash to get him up.  Boy did he stink, stunk of dead animal.  Cilaka betul.

Bathe him as soon as we got home.  He sure knows he is deep doodoo coz he was very still and did what I told him to do which normal he will do the opposite of what i want him to do.

This early morning, he almost did it again.  It’s at a different spot than the previous incident.  This time I was watching him and as soon as I saw him crouching down, I pulled on his leash real hard which really jolted him off that spot.  From then on each time I see him sniffing a spot for a while, I started tugging at the leash and if no response, I just pulled him away.  I’m sure whoever sees me doing that will stay I’m a dog abuser. Walking the dogs is suppose to be stress free, no need to sort out any acne treatment but I think from now on I really have to. The other two dogs have not give me much problems when I walk them, just this Ranger, the angel, that’s what DB calls him and yet he does not like to walk Ranger.

Weekend happening

Comments Off

The boys, Cooper and Chase and I were out for our morning walk on Saturday. All was good till we made the turn on the road heading towards our house. The boys started running fast towards some thing. I was sort of day dreaming and when they both started scrambling towards the shrubs it took me by surprise. I then saw a doe, a very big white tail, right in front of the boys trying to attack them and the boys were going for the doe.  Picture of the doe is similar to the one here. (Picture source and you can also read more about the white-tailed deer.)

I have the boys on their leashes.  I should have just let the leashes free.  I was protecting the dogs but when I told DB what had happened, he said the boys are actually trying to protect me.

Anyways, the doe was not a happy camper.  She was huffing and puffing and going back and forth across the marsh and the pond where all the tall shrubs, trees and prairie grass are.  Cooper took a few tumbles when I tried to pull him away from the deer.  I could see the doe was ready to kick, stomping away!  Her hooves are loud when she cross the road, clomp, clomp, clomp and when she was stomping on the road.  And the way she was leaping high over the tall, tall shrubs was a sight.

Once I got the boys in a short leash I walked so damn fast away from the doe but she kept following us and huffing away.  If the temp was in the 40′s F I would be able to see the steam from her nostrils!  She was hopping along the shrubs on my side, disappear into the thick shrubs and popped back out with just her head, exactly like this picture below.

And here I am trying to get across the road but she did the same.  I finally went over to the side where there are town homes.  I heard a lady’s voice saying get away from the deer quick (the lady was standing on her balcony watching the whole thing).  When I got over to the row of town homes, the lady said she has seen the doe around lately.  She just gave birth and she also pointed to me where the doe had her baby….right by the marshes…..tall prairie grass.  The lady said it is very common for a doe to do what she just did when she sees other animals….proctecting her fawn(s), just in case the animals eat her fawn(s) up.

That doe kept following us all the way back home doing the same thing, disappear behind rows of homes and reappear.  She was so, so  fast.  Finally she disappeared into another wooded area when we were nearing our house.

That was my very first seeing a deer/doe standing right in front of my face, blowing steam!  Usually when deers see humans, they will run super fast but this doe is keeping her hatch safe.

DB said she could have came forward and start kicking at the dogs and me as she see us as a threat.  That was why he said I should let the leashes free.  Dogs no matter how domesticated they are will know how to defend their master against other animals.  That’s what the man said but honestly, that was my first reaction…keep the dogs safe – the opposite of his thinking.  Is it a woman/motherly kinda instinct?  Honestly, I was a little scared and yet wanted to take my phone out to take a pic of the doe!  Crazy right?    Of course I couldn’t, no free hands.  As for the boys, them boys were growling and heckles were up.  So they must be pissed of too!

This morning, when I was out for my walk with the same C’s, I saw the doe again…but this time I was at a distant away.  She must have smelled us (per DB) and she hopped away into the marsh.  I continued on with the walk and she didn’t pop her head out.

< Neighbor's house warming >

Comments Off

We received an invite to our next door neighbor’s house warming which is tomorrow afternoon. DB and I have already been to their house to kinda help them move some furniture. They are newly married couple and super friendly. I told DB their taste in furniture compare to ours is totally the opposite. They are the very modern type of folks where contemporary sofas and furniture sits in their little adobe. It will be interesting to see what are the new colors they have on the walls.

< Looking for uniforms >

Comments Off

DB’s work requires him to crawl under work benches, machines and he said sometimes lie on the floor to fix those machines. He washes his jeans daily which he is tired of doing but more so of wearing them out sooner than he want. Last night he said he is ordering up work uniforms next week. The employee will be given a new set of uniform everyday, just bring the worn ones back end of the week. They will be laundered for them too. Not bad for $7/week. I was at the thrift store last weekend looking at men’s polo shirts hoping to get some for him for work. So good thing I didn’t coz I have to return them.

< Handyman >

Comments Off

I am now calling DB the Handyman. He has been fixing up stuff around the house that needs fixing, putting up furniture, desk, pictures…just about everything. Lately he is working on his and my PC to run its optimum. He said what we need is some sort of online backupfor all the pictures he and I have taken on our overseas trips. When he was in Malaysia and Thailand, he took gazillion of them during the span of 4 years.   Thought we are hoarders but didn’t know we hoard the hard drives space too! :)   Now he is partitioning the hard drives to store the pics.

< Memories of Julie >

Comments Off

Julie B, a lady with super kind heart, cheerful and always on the go.  She was my co-worker at the travel company I was working at.  She was always on my side whenever my wicked boss of the West starts to give me crap.  I always had a good time with her at and outside of work.  Till this day, I still think of her.

You see, Julie passed away in October of 2003 of cancer, pancreas to be exact.  She was once a smoker but quit 10  years before she was diagnosed with cancer.  I myself was a smoker then.  She detest seeing me and her boyfriend with a cigarette in our mouths.  She will start telling us what cigarettes will to us because she said her years of smoking cigarette is killing her now.

When Julie was out of work for a couple of days, I thought she was out on vacation or just took a few days off to help out her mom but when days became weeks, I started to call her but no one picked up the phone.  I then asked her boss, Naomi.  She told me about it.  Julie was in the hospital and doing her cancer treatment.  I was so shocked.  I asked was it mesothelioma cancer (her dad died of that cancer), she said no, it was cancer of the pancreas.  The doctors gave her at least 6 months to live.  We both thought that she had mesothelioma from her days of growing up in the town where working in the asbestos factories were the job of the town folks.

There is this book written by Paul Kraus, Surviving Mesothelioma: A Patient’s Guide, survived the cancer by going holistic.  Julie did the same: drinking juices, taking anti-oxidant supplements and going full vegetarian.  The author, Paul, survived the prognosis and so did Julie, however, the cancer cells conquered her after  1 year of her diagnosis.  She died a day before her 43rd birthday.

The above book is a true story of a man who survived the cancer and I would suggest this poignant book if anyone is going through cancer or knows someone with mesothelioma cancer.
