Satellite dish it is for me

Comments Off

DB is a hardcore TV addict.  No joke, he has to watch TV when he is prepping dinner, or when he gets home, the first thing he will do is turn the TV on.  We have a TV in the dining room now and we installed a dish TV a month after we moved in.  I was kinda against it but then I thought since he is paying for the bill, I’d let it go.

Having satellite dish instead of cable has its advantages and disadvantages.  I much prefer cable because when it rains or any bad weather, the cable will not lose signal.  Satellite dishes do, however cable has fewer channels than satellite dish.  The cable company we had frequented usually comes with a package with internet and or phone.  However this time around we just wanted TV channels, no internet and what not.  So DB stuck on with his favorite dish TV provider, Direct TV.   I left it to him to settle this “TV” thing since he is the who will be watching the most.

Direct TV do offer a few direct satellite tv offers.   There are quite a number of packages to pick from.  I had already told him to pick the minimal but that fella still insist on some channels like Fox Sports North (FSN), ESPN, Western and FX and some other channels I can’t even remember.  I cannot remember which package he picked, I think it’s the Choice package, since it was priced very reasonably and the channels he wanted are there.

Since DB is paying for all bills, I don’t really care what he wants to  order for channels but I still want a moderate looking statement every month.  Anyway, he told me since we are only getting two receivers, the bill will drop tremendously compare to four receivers.  I have to agree that the statement is better looking and I do like how Direct TV have their tv pricing fair with other companies with the channels we have and the price we pay plus it includes all the local channels, too.  I’m up for that.

< All prenatal vities are the same, no? >

Comments Off

Friday I was out again with Nadine. This time around her sister came along as we were going to the mall by her house. Her sister and brother in-law came for a visit from Moscow, their 2nd time in Minnesota. Her sister is about 4+ months preggie but she don’t even look like she is with child. Ok this is what i want to talk about. Her sister is super anal. She wants to get the best prenatal vitamin but could not decide which to get. Nadine told her most brands sold in here are good brands. Even store brands are good. Her sister said she will never touch anything store brand. Wow, that was obnoxious of her. I told her I have known friends who took store brands prenatal vities and everything was fine with them. I guess she rather spend the extra bucks to get the best out there. Nadine and I just rolled my eyes, fed up with her sister.

< Clothes shopping at work >

Comments Off

I think I mentioned this before, the company brings in vendors to sell their products at the convenience store right in the campus. It is very nice to have these little shopping while at work. I have bought a few books, men’s shirts and plates from these vendors. This morning I saw the flier on a wholesale clothes vendor coming in tomorrow for half a day. I am curious what types of brands and line of clothes they are selling. I really like the Minnesota Twins collection they had two months ago. They were reasonably priced and by 2:30 p.m. a lot of their merchandise were sold.   I hope tomorrow’s merchandise is a good lot. :)

< Summer activity >

Comments Off

My co-worker invited me to her parents’ farm last weekend. I wanted to go but I had to decline since some things cropped up on Friday that got me busy the entire weekend. She wanted me to visit her at the farm because her brother had organized an atv racing between the siblings. I have seen ATVs but have not ride on one. Think I will be too scared unless I’m the passenger, not the driver. I will be driving it slow! :) Today she told me they had fun, no crashes. They even had a little competition between the little nephews and nieces too. Argh, now I wish I went…..oh well, there will be another time since this is an annual summer activity for them.

English

Comments Off

I chance upon this this article on Yahoo yesterday morning.

Once I started reading it, it reminds me of DB.  English is his native language.  Yes, his spoken English is, of course, better than mine plus all the slang and some phrases that really get me “urh….”, however, I have to say his spelling sucks to high heaven.  English is my second language or is it third? :)   After going through ESL (English as Second Language) classes and writing classes at the community college, my writing improved, way better when I first got here, although my spoken still sucks.

Anyway, I want to say is this.  DB’s usage of “you’re” and “your” is so apparent, it just irks me to death.  Example, “Your welcome.”  Drives me nuts seeing that on text or emails.

And when he writes “The dogs are board.”  I have to read that sentence again to get the meaning.  It should be “bored” not “board”.  Another one I see very often amongst my coworker is “tasty”.  Some of them write “taste” and DB spell it that way too when I say the chicken was tasty.  Another big one this manager uses is “my bad”.  I think that is slang but it’s not a proper sentence and I’m picking up on it once in a while and I will catch myself once I say it and then correct myself.  I will say, “It’s my fault/mistake.”

Oh since I’m at it, he still says for example, “I doesn’t like the shirt.”  WTH, right?  I have to correct him, “I don’t like the shirt.”  Sometimes I know he is saying it wrong on purpose but in emails and when I read his cover letters, I have to correct his grammar and spelling and like the article said, spell check do not check some words that are not right for the sentence.

Not boasting here but I told him he should be teaching me English, not the other way around.  Yes, no?

What do you do when…..

Comments Off

….you see a depressed person wasting his/her life away doing nothing about it.  Worse still is he/she is not enjoying what God has given to him/her.  It is extremely sad.

Sometimes talking to the depressed person is not easy either.  He/she might not want to talk about the problem that is bugging them.

The doctor is the best medicine for these kind of folks.  The doctor will prescribe the “happy pill” if worse comes to worse for that person.

Been there done that, and I’m glad I’m out of this depressed mode.  I am hoping this person will come out of this shell very very soon.  It is nerve wrecking, I know.

< Should I, should I not >

Comments Off

I am debating should I spend a couple hundreds for a whitening serum for my dark spots. Those darn dark spots are getting darker and with me in the sun every day just for 30 minutes is enough to not make it any better. I do have sun screen on but I do not see any improvement at all except that I don’t get too tan on my face. I know prototype 37c is a good wrinkle fighter, that I don’t need as of now. I rather find a good dark spot serum to lighten those darn spots. I have one in mind to buy but whether I want to spit that much dough for a bottle of cream, that’s what bugging me. Will have to sleep on it for a few more days.

< Baking and dieting >

Comments Off

Since we moved to our new digs, I have been baking quite a bit. I was so anxious to check out the new oven. The flat top stove was not I was crazy about but just the oven. DB also mentioned he was craving for cakes. I bake quite a bit of pound, chocolate, prune cakes and banana bread. Almost every week we will have some kind of cake to go with our vanilla ice-cream. Now I’m thinking of some kind of diet pills like clinicallix that will help suppress my appetite.  How I wish I’m the type who can eat and eat but still remains slim.  I guess that’s fat chance in my family’s genes.   The only thing I can do is cut down on the cakes. :(

The boys and their baths: a review

Comments Off

*This is not a paid review.

I have to admit, I do not bathe the dogs very often, especially the two C’s (Cooper and Chase).  The two C’s are “cleaner” dogs, whereas Ranger is more of a “I love to roll on yucky stuff” kinda dog.  Needless to say, Ranger gets more baths than the other two.  I simply hate bathing the boys.  The number one reason is they do not stay still and I don’t even bathe them outdoors or in the tub.  I bathe them in the shower stall where they are confine in one small area.  No where for them to try run from me.  Even in the shower stall, they will go round in circles.  So I resort to just brushing them more often and that was before we moved to town home community.  I have not brush them since we move to our new digs coz dog hair will be all over the neighbors.

So now, I do subscribe to a pet website.  In a particular email I saw the goodness of Rapid Bath by Hydro Surge
DSC03016

I read the product reviews, the works and watched the testimonials.  After reading and watching these testimonials and reviews, I was drawn to this wonderful creation.  Talked it over with DB and he said get it.  Ordered it and also extra shampoo cartridges, they came within a week and I tried it out [(new toilet, you know! :) ]

DSC03017

It says the Rapid Bath will get your dog bathe in 3 minutes. Of course, I don’t believe that since each dog is different depending on how big and thick its fur is. The kit comes with the hose, connectors, sprayer and a free shampoo cartridge.

The installation seems to be very easy.
DSC03020

Installation was done by DB, the tool guy around the house. He got it up in less than 10 minutes. We are going to leave the installation up there for good since it does not affect our shower head.  The connectors that came with the kit really works.

I did the testing with the Rapid Bath. No pictures while bathing the dogs coz I was bathing them and DB was busy bodying outside the shower and I forgot to ask him to take pictures.  The instructions says to hold the sprayer at a 45 degree angle to get a better wash.  It’s true, the 45 degree angle does a very good cleaning.

Overall, it’s a good buy. I like the fact that the dogs really stood still while I was spraying them (shampooing, rinsing and their faces). It must be the spray as it says it is like a spa for them.  The water pressure from the sprayer was perfect. It does remove a lot of loose hair also and yes, the dogs were clean and smelling good. The bath time for each dog varies. First it was Chase: it took about 7 plus minutes from start to finish (shampoo, rinse and face) since he has the shortest and least hair on him. Ranger I took less than 10 minutes also since I bathe him few weeks ago. Cooper was the only one that took about 15 minutes since he has so much loose hair and they were coming off him like he has some disease.  I spent extra nimutes during the rinsing to get the hair off him.

The only drawback is each the shampoo cartridge will wash 2+ dogs, or it could be because it was my first time using the Rapid Bath, I am not accustom to the new tool yet.
DSC03015

Halfway bathing Cooper (he was the last I did), I had to get a new cartridge to finish his bath. The Hypo-allergenic shampoo is for Ranger but for this first round of baths, I used the oatmeal shampoo and so far it’s working good.

Now that we are done with one of the shampoo cartridge, we are saving it.  We cannot refill the cartridge with our own dog shampoo.  Once we are done with what we ordered for cartridges, we have to order more.  I read in some reviews, people are using a syringe to pump their own dog shampoo into the cartridge (there is a plastic tip on the top of the cartridge).

The next bath will be next month since bathing the three monsters now is easy peasy.

Need to detox

Comments Off

I am looking into ways to detox, get rid of all the crap that’s in my system. I notice my skin is not clear like what it was when I was prepping for my colonoscopy in April. All the purging and fasting absolutely did my skin good. It was so much clearer, brighter and definitely no need for acnepril for the acnes. Yes, I was very surprise what the prep did to my skin. So I’m scanning the god’s of Google to find a good detox.   I might cough out some dough for some whitening serum for my dark spots but for my overall detox, I am going for a day fasting and purging!  Hopefully I will find a good brand.

Do I want to go back to school?

Comments Off

The thought has crossed my mind many times. Realistically, I should go back to school to get my degree for a better job. However, i don’t have the drive to do it anymore. My boss has mentioned to me about accredited online degrees that the company will pay for its tuition. Yes, I know about them, looked into and read about the programs offered too, but the motivation is not in me. I think thoughts of getting a degree for myself is out the door. I know it was a waste since I am already halfway through with my generals, with another 24 credits and I will have them done. Also I know there is no age barrier in completing one’s education, but I wish I have the drive to get her done. Who knows, one day when I’m 50 years old and all of a sudden the drive to get a degree returns! :)

Another boring day

Comments Off

Yesterday was another day at the Miller’s (Nadine’s shop). I was bored at after work so decided to hop over to her hubby’s store and hung around with Nadine for a bit. At least I got myself useful scanning their inventory with their newly bought Symbol LS2208 scanners. Mark’s business is coming along but still not the best, according to Nadine. So much for a better economy which I think is teeny bit better than last year but so many businesses are folding up. There are still homes on foreclosure, jobless folks are still jobless. Really sad and I’m definitely thanking God for what I have. Don’t need to ask for more, just what I (we) have now is more than enough.

Lazy summer days

Comments Off

I have been so lazy these past few weeks. I am blaming it on the weather which for some is the perfect weather. For me I despise the sun as it really hurts my skin, no matter how much sun block I slather on myself, it’s no help. The sun loves me too much!!! At least I get my free dose of Vitamin D that I’m lacking of not any human growth hormone my coworker’s older boy is getting himself into. He is into body building, bulking up and apparently he says HGH works for him. Speaking of bulking up, I’m bulking up in a sense of FAT. Yeah, my walks with the boys are slow and super short. Get them out, they do their businesses and i quickly get back into the house and plant my butt on the chair in front of the TV or PC. Curse those tempatations! :)

< The procrastinator >

DB has a room in the house set up with his office desk, printers and his two pcs. Yet he is not using the room. The room is still in a state of mishap, mishap of cables. He said he needs to get another Linksys router so he could finish up moving his stuff around in the room (office). I told him all the routers he has in the umpteen boxes he has he could have use one of them. He then can at least start moving some of the crap that he had started setting up by the dining table. I shall see when he will finally get moving.

Just a thought

Comments Off

The man and I had a talk about moving back to M’sia. He saw an article about retiring in some countries listed and one of them is M’sia and with $1200 from Social Security. Hmmm, that got me thinking and he I already wants to live there if and when he retires. The question falls on me if I want to leave my natural air conditioning back to the hot and sweltering place I grew up in. A friend of mine told me she would help DB look for a job too if I email her his resume. DB is actually working on updating his resume. I guess he is really serious about leaving US but he said he is wondering if there are affordable life insurance for seniors if he decides to move to M’sia for retirement. I told him there should be but probably more expensive, I guess. Who knows, we really might pack up and move back to M’sia.
