Slacking in this blog

I’m back home for a week now and I’m still not in the mood to blog.  The travel bug is still in me, and jet lag is not exactly over yet. I’m still thinking of Bali!!!

There are a lot of the above kind of statues which I gather are some deities for protection, not sure and I didn’t ask.

I didn’t take many pictures with the camera I brought with me to Bali. Why?? Coz smart me forgot to bring the battery charger along. The second morning when we were getting ready to ronda the town, the baterries died on me. Good thing my sister brought along a spare camera with her. Sis, “lei hei tak geh”.

Oh, after arriving in Bali, my BM came out very naturally. I thought it would take me a while to speak in Bahasa Melayu!! Just seeing the signs in Bali were enough to kick the memory cells into full gear.

Of course some words like this Oleh-Oleh I didn’t know what it was. I thought it meant furniture. Turns out it’s a souvenier shop, a shop to ketuk tourist kau kau, yet we bought quite a bit there.  This picture was taken on the free and easy day (5th day out of 6).

Since coming back to MN, my camera is still sitting in my hand carry.  Yes, I still have my 2 big luggage and hand carry laying on the floor with clothes that need to be washed still crying out for me to move them.  I’m just so out of it and going back to work 3 days after I got back was tough.  Will download the pictures from my camera to Flickr this weekend.

My first day back to work was Monday, Dec 19 and guess what??????  My vacation to Bali, Singapore, Ipoh, Singapore was so fabulous I forgot what my network password to my PC.  Even the passwords to the security questions were blur to me.  No choice had to call Help Desk since I tried more than 3 times to answer the security questions and failed majorly.

Needless to say, my write up on Bali is not going to happen soon, or probably might not even resurrect at all based on my lack of motivation! :)   There are some really good pictures my sister and I took that I want to put up here  but then they are already in FB.  There is one picture I took that so reminded me of  Great Ocean Road.  It’s not exactly the same but the fact that the jagged edge that faces the Indian Ocean and the sea eroded cliffs reminds me a lot of it.

The dogs at home are damn thrilled to see me home. Sticking to me like leeches especially Chase. Ranger’s mobility is not good, so he does not climb upstairs anymore. He will move to the living room or dining room wherever DB is. Poor Ranger….we started him back on prednisone again because of the mold outside.  There is not a flake of snow on the ground.  The weather is really freaky….we are having temperatures in the 30′s Fahrenheit.  Some nights the temps stayed above freezing.  This Christmas will be a very brown Christmas.  Christmas hymnes are playing the background as I’m typing this.  No big celebration just the 2 of us roasting a whole chicken with mash taters, sweet potatoes (ladened with butter and brown sugar) and green bean casserole.  I don’t fancy ham, so chicken it is for me.

Again, till my next post….HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS, peeps.

A quick update

Comments Off

I am really enjoying myself in Ipoh.  As usual I am in IMax checking FB and emails.  Eating is of course the top priority when I am in Ipoh.

Bali vacation is way too good that I do not want to leave.  The Balinese are such peaceful people and their way of life is so humbling.  I have to say it was a natural sauna when I arrived in Bali.  There is no need for scrub clothes where it is my comfort clothing in hot weather.  I am glad my sister has so many sleeveless and i bought some sun dresses to cool myself!!!  Although the heat is very unbearable for me and also for my mom, I have to thank the humidity to moisten my dry skin brought all the way from Minnesota.  The very last dat in Bali, my sis, mom and me went for last minute shopping, I had to take my shirt off!!!  The heat was totally bad.  I walked around the streets like those Aussie girls, with just the bikini top!

Another  thing I have to say about Bali is there are dogs heaven.  Dogs are all over the place even on the beaches.  I see dogs more than cats.  I would assume there are stores selling vet scrubs and if they need more there is this link to purchase more http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Men/.  I do have to say those dogs with collars on them which I assume are owned by someone, they are really in good shape…not one dog is overweight.  However some dogs are very pitiful looking.  Sigh, if only I can pick them up and take them home with me to the US!

Now that I’m in Ipoh, I shopping for food and more food.  I didn’t have to shop for clothes since I have a lot of clothes from my sister!  I really blessed to be skinnier than her!!!  Hahahahah, if she reads this she is going to strangle me :)   All the eating and more to come have definitely wrecked my skinnyness away.  Oh well, I can go back to my regular diet when I get home.  I am leaving for Singapore on December 14 and back to the States on the 16th.  The time seems to be flying – time flys when you are having fun.

Till the next time, bye for now.

When my co-worker J’s, mom passed away, I had to coordinate what to get for her. My other coworker said to get flowers but S, another lady said J and family are Jewish. Usually for funerals plant gifts are sent, not flowers. I am glad I waited a day before I started ordering flowers. We don’t want to send something offending albeit we can say we didn’t know but I’m glad S did her homework.

The shopping for my trip is done and I’m all set to go. I do wanted to go to Macy’s but I ran out of time. There is not much to get at Macy’s but it’s more for window shopping, just to join the Black Friday crowd. Although I want to get a new mattress that is good in price like mattresses los angeles sells, it would be nice. Old mattresses are hard to sleep on :(

Turkey pick up

Comments Off

1121011446.jpg
The company for this location I am at gave out turkeys for its employees again. As far as I know this is a tradition the first owners started way back early 1980. I’m not sure if it actually started back in 1800′s.  The above picture was taken yesterday whe the two truck loads of turkeys arrived at the front of the building.  Employees are each given a voucher to collect a turkey.

This year I picked mine up on the way home and gave it away to a church member, B.  He and his wife took care of my meals many many times and had invited me over for Thanksgiving.  I thought it would be nice to give my turkey to them since they will have 18 people over at their home for Thanksgiving dinner.  Of course that one turkey is not enough!  This year Thanksgiving, DB and I together with the two boys are going to my brother in-law’s.  I don’t look forward to seeing the folks there but more so for the food! Hahahha

Conference calls

Comments Off

I have to admit I never liked conference calls before. During the 3rd and the rest of the 4th quaters i have to be on conference calls twice a week. Now that the company has changed the service to internet conference calls it is so much easier and fast to connect to the other parties. Moreover we employees received now phones which make life way better! All the buttons for making conference calls are right on the phone without looking them up on the phone directory/menu. Breeze!

Baby shower e-vite

Comments Off

I am most surprised to receive an invitation via email from my coworker to her baby shower.
We used to work together 11 years ago but she moved on to a different area a year later. We have not talked to each other for quite a while and that is why I said I’m surprise at what i saw in my inbox. I replied her telling her I could not make it this Sunday for the shower. She is getting very tired of the paper baby shower invitations she had to send out for her first shower that her aunty did for her. This shower her mom and sister are organizing it. She is so done with showers and actually want the baby out pronto! :)

A call from a friend, R

Comments Off

R, my friend who is now in Texas, called me telling me she had breast cancer 5 years ago. Yesterday we caught up again and this time round it is not her but her hubby, G, who is going for a laser treatment for back pain.  They are not young anymore, and by the way, they are in their early sixties now, she said she needs to slow down and reminds herself she is not a spring chicken no more!  It was so nice to hear from her again, catching up with what they are up to in Texas for the winter and their traveling adventures.  I do think of her all the time….she has saved me from “trouble” a lot of times!

Warm weather, nice heating bill~

Comments Off

The weather is at a decent temperature of 30′s and 40′s fahrenheit.  It is perfect sleeping weather and is saving a lot on the heating bill.  I have the temperature in the house set at 65 and and we go to bed it is set at 63.  DB initially was complaining it was too cold at 63 saying he would require CozyWinters.com heated clothing!!  Mind you, when you go to bed with all the blankets and pillows and an extra human in the bed, it’s very very hot.  That’s me.  I know he, too, at times will say it’s too warm.  We had the temperature set to 63 for 2 weeks now, he is adjusting to it and also to the day temperature setting of 65.  My friend said I’m torturing him!

We had snow!

Comments Off

The snow finally came on Saturday.  All good 3 inches, and that was all.  It’s actually disappointing for me!  I was hoping for more.  I was out and about on Saturday meeting up with my ex co-worker at Panera Bread.  When I left the house at noon it was just sleeting.  Traffic on the freeway was not bad at all, smooth.   However, 3 hours after, the snow plows were out and I was stucked at County Road 42 for 1 hours 50 minutes just to get home.  It was a parking lot!

1119011551.jpg

This is what it looks like while getting off the ramp to 35E/W.  The roads were very icy, a lot of cars spunned out and accidents all over.  I suppose since it was the first snow fall of the season, every one has to learn how to drive in the snow again!

Invite to Buffalo, MN

Comments Off

The holiday mood is buzzing around – in the office and every where I go. A friend from the retreat I went to in August (EL her name) invited me to her cabin in Buffalo, MN. It’s probably around 50 minutes drive or more from where I am. I seriously do not know but I would like to go if only I don’t have to get ready for my own vacation. EL has bugged me since we departed to visit her. She lives in her cabin permanently now equipped with cabin furniture, I was told by her best friend, to-die-for furniture.  EL invited me to come up this Friday for the weekend and we all ladies could go Black Friday shopping at the outlet mall!!!  Argh….I so want to go but….a rain check is in order right now.

Shopping done

Comments Off

I’m definitely done shopping for my upcoming trip. I’m broke!!! I wanted to get a funny t-shirt for my friend, I had to say, “next time”. I’m suppose to go home with very little gifts but looking at the stuff in the corner of the walk-in closet is scary. My trip home will only focus on eating, an eating spree for 3 weeks, no shopping for me!

When I see the town home community center wraps up for the summer where the pools are cover with pool covers, the deck chairs and tables put away, I think of the kid who comes over to chat with me every time I’m outside with the two older dogs….back in spring and summer. I should said she is not a kid anymore, she is 16 going on 17!! She used to work at her grandma’s apartment complex, helping out at the pool area. She longs for adult interaction that’s why she comes over when she see me outside. Don’t blame her, she is the assigned babysitter for her 3 little siblings! I told her she needs to get a part time job but….responsibilities are at home.

Chats happened in the loo!

Comments Off

It’s funny how my conversations with my co-worker, M, always take place in the bathroom. We were once cube neighbors till she moved to a different area and we don’t see each other very often. It was such fun times when we were next to each other…all the laughs and stories she tells me. I’m still very impressed with how she juggles a few dates in one night and sleepless nights!! I told her I’m too old for these “funs”. She was the one who enlightened me on free online dating sites years ago.

Morning has Broken

I heard this song on the radio driving in to work and it’s stuck in my head since then. Good thing it’s a beautiful tune which reminds me of the days back in Main Convent during our Ethics classes.   I remember playing it on the piano, too, at home, not at school! :)
